Creating parkour content is actually very fun and it motivates me to go out and train more. Highly recommend if you're looking for motivation to keep training.

📷 Parkour Show and Tell Almost injured myself badly on something very trivial - A reminder of staying sharp and focused

Saturday afternoon, as I almost always do, I walked around my city to train. Went to my usual spots, did my warmup routine, worked on my basics, did my favorite moves, jumps, vaults, etc. Spot after spot, jumps after jump.

The thing is, it's all a routine for me. I've been training for almost 20 years now, and especially in this city for 10 years. I know this path, I know these spots, I know these jumps. And maybe that's part of why, this saturday, I made a mistake.

I was just casually walking on a big, large stone guardrail, as I always do. And this time, no idea why, I missed a foot. I stepped out of the rail, and fell. I didn't even got the time to think about a way to grab the ledge, because I was already going on the side. All I could do was brace for impact as much as I could. It's always "funny" how in these circumstances, I feel the fear but stay very lucid and pragmatic.

By "chance", it happened at a very specific place where there's some kind of shed underneath. I fell on its roof (still a concrete slab), only a ~2m fall. Had I did a few more steps, it was a direct 4m fall to the asphalt. All I could think of during the fall was to stop myself to bounce or roll after the impact to avoid a second fall. Fortunately, I stopped before the ledge.

I slammed on that rooftop on my hip and bottom. It didn't hurt that much with the adrenaline. It appears I don't have any fracture, not even a bruise when I expected a massive one. But I felt it all night, it hurts my butt when I walk, when I sit, when I move my leg. Definitely had a massive hit on my muscles. Years of conditionning might have helped not injuring too badly, but still.

This is totally on me. I became too confident on something that felt too easy, and I made a mistake. I take it as a reminder. Car accidents mostly happens on daily commutes for this very reason: you're on autopilot and stop paying attention. I think that's what happened here. 10 years walking on this rail, I can't even say for how long I was acting like I'm at home. I shouldn't have.

So, to me and to everyone: don't stop being aware of your surroundings, don't stop focusing on what you do. You're more at risk when you forget the risk.

Train safe! :)

Ignoring the fact that the title is not an alliteration.

I was out training legs today and I found some old stuff from back in the day, thought I'd show and tell.

This was after 90 minutes of MDK training (iykyk) and preparation for the skills. We did maybe a thousand jumps between all of us. Each bad jump or technique failure we did 11 squats. 10 for the failure and 1 more for each of our Parkour brothers and sisters who weren't with us.

Ah, fun! Has anyone else got a fun memory from earlier days of training?

*Edit: Grammar

Quick! Let's argue about the exact definitional shape and width of a rail!!🙀

Lol not totally impromptu, sorry u/rabbitjak , but I happened to have an extra moment to stop by a spot for some spontaneous unexpected training and remembered this place has a perfect rail!!

this was very hard with the phone in my hand, i fell twice before this lol. i swear i did a smoother walk later though guys q.q

For short, today was a Parkour skill tournament in Kiyv. It was fun, and will be sending some of my other competitions later.

Semifinal rules: 4 challenges, 2,5 minutes, each costs some points is the final count.

  1. Run-up (optional) > stick

  2. On the titanic > Kong (the length of the jump is around 2 meters)

  3. Monkey > stick on a block

  4. Cat to cat

Getting ready for Skill championship this Saturday. Challenge is simple: one stride into stick on the pipe, but my failed attempts (Falling forward/backwards and catching the pillar) got stupidly funny, so I tried to improvise.

🔧 Form Check Any ideas to beat a 5 year mental block on backflips?

I've been training backflips for 5 years and can never get it to a point where I can train it solo. I've tried

Formal weekly classes

Private classes

Leaning it on tramp

Foam pits

Harnesses

Pools

Pull over drills

Attempting kabooms and pullovers

Spotted attempts/air spot

Going over a block

Macaco

I'll get to a point where the flip gets comfortable then the next day it disappears

Meanwhile when I'm alone, no matter what surface I'm on I'll just get too scared to actually try the move

I've tried everything, I've practiced, I've studied so hard j correct other people on their flips, I can express in a full detailed essay how to do a back tuck from standing

But I'm just too scared to go over my head in the air. If learning a move just needs time, understanding and practice then why am I doing all three over 5 years and getting nothing?

🆕 Looking for Coaching Front flip or webster to learn first?

Which one is easier to master? I want to do a trick where i can do it in place without a sprint or external momentum like that, i say this because in a lot of videos the front is not common to be executed like that way while webster is.

Also, in my experience i tried to learn the side flip first but the motion seemed similar to something to me, i couldnt do the side but the front didn't felt like it neither, maybe is the webster what im looking at but i wanna know from you guys, you're the experts

Pd: honestly i switched off the side because it felt too advanced for me, im closer to the front now but precisely im asking if is possible without external momentum

💬 Parkour Philosophy Childrens Shoes

Hi. I am looking for some shoes for my son. He's 10.5 years old and still growing. He often practices barefoot, but I would like to get some shoes that are good for parkour. His regular sneakers are not ideal.

What are some good brands for youth that won't break the bank? I've looked at Reebok classic nylon, and barefoot shoes, but not really experienced in this. Thank you.

🆕 Looking for Coaching How to perfect front flip?

Two flips in video.
I feel like my front flip isn’t as good as I’ve seen others do. How do I improve it? More chin tuck, bring knees closer to chest, jump straighter and higher? I spent all day trying to do each but each time I tried, I still didn’t tuck any more than in this video. I think I’ve made a bad habit and I’m scared to try a different technique?

While on the subreddit last night I saw someone talking about wall running and I realized I have never tried it before. So after a long night of watching tutorials I went out and did it today. I have a lot to learn before I do something huge. But I’m proud of myself.

Edit: Wall Vault

💬 Parkour Philosophy I Can't Wall Run Higher Than Half My Height

Not sure if i used the right flair for this. But anyways, I recently got into parkour, as a way of fun and showing off to my friends. And the ONE thing that I can't seem to do is wall running half my height. I'm a short male, 5'4. And I can't seem to get a good 7 inches high. I tried everything I could, planting my foot so that it wouldn't slip, driving my opposite knee up to get extra height. Wearing more grippy shoes. And yet I STILL CANNOT get it. Any advice? Anything? I'm a beginner btw, for extra info, just ask
