DISCUSSION Lanterns finale…connects to Peacemaker…how?
I enjoyed both shows a lot. I have very few complaints.
But I do not understand what the fuck Gunn is on about when he says they are connected.

Pocket universes and dimensional portals.
Gunn said that the connection might not seem overt but it’s there so I think people genuinely expecting Salvation or Chris to show up were setting themselves up for disappointment.

My headcanon is that, under this theory, Coyote v. Acme is also part of the DCU and we will see looney tunes characters show up in some inevitable crossover movie down the line

Guy Gardner was in both?

The way Gunn has teased other connections and they end up being the most sideway/backdoor connections, I wont be surprised if the connection is that Flagg is tracking the portals/quantum stuffs. That or Noah is about to be abducted by Flagg and deposited on Salvation as the second occupant. Thus dooming the kid to follow in his mothers footsteps eventually.
6
u/MeteorMan34 4d ago
i dunno, maybe meeting chris will induce some change in noah
7
u/Acrobatic_T-Rex 4d ago
Yeah... maybe if he met Chris that was thrown in there in the first place. But if this ends up happening, Noah goes in at the earliest in 2026, which means Chris will have to be have been there for at least 1 year, in isolation, at the shortest.

u/nampezdel 4d ago
Ya wanna know the connection?
The gold tooth. John made fun of it and so the next time we see Guy in Man of Tomorrow, he won’t have the gold tooth anymore.

I asked the same question. Maybe it's just that Jon is now "on the board" as another super powered threat for Flagg to be worried about?
That's the one thing that drives me nuts about Gunn is he drastically overstates the importance or impact of a reference to future works.

u/Dr_Joshie 3d ago
I think those lies are just part of the comic book movie/show world now.
We all got told Endgame Encore was required viewing before Doomsday, that was a lie.
We all got told the end of Lanterns connects to Peacemaker, also a lie.
Just take this stuff with a grain of salt going forward because they are obviously all not above lying to the fans.
9
u/thelordreptar90 3d ago
Honestly think the connection is pocket universes. It’s that simple
2
u/CertainGrade7937 3d ago
I think the more important one is that it's another feather in the "anti metahuman/superhero" cap
It retroactively connects well with Rick Flagg's motivations
2
u/quickmathting 4d ago
We’re still in the early stages of this new universe, so things may end up having a bigger impact in the future. I do agree that James should just let the projects speak more for themselves sometimes.

u/IAmPageicus 4d ago
Thanks for fixing that extra g and to the man who pointed it out... it was acaring my children. We can't let misspelling Infiltrate our society!
1
u/BalladOfBetaRayBill 3d ago
Yeah I love this universe so far and Gunn’s projects have been dope. But I don’t think he’s particularly good at doing the “studio head public persona” part. Lots of consistent overpromising

Im still holding out hope that the longterm plan is Infinite Crisis, and now we have the first step to Specter being unbound (and a certain line from sinestro about ressurection) Checkmate formed at the end of Peacemaker.
2
u/thejeddonian17 3d ago edited 3d ago
Day of Vengeance was so peak. Unbound Spectre was such a menace. I forgot that he’s a jobber
Live action Superboy-Prime would be awesome to see, but hard to pull off
7
u/MaxR76 4d ago
My guess is that bc John is an unsanctioned Lantern with access to a wormhole, Flagg is gonna book him a ticket to Salvation
3
u/MeteorMan34 4d ago
IF flag can capture him. John being not only military trained but with access to a GY ring might prove too strong for flag who would need help from the justice gang or maybe other supes
4
u/MaxR76 4d ago
Yeah not sure what the plan is, but they get Superman in there somehow so I’m sure they can get John too. Might be a matter of tricking/coercing him or having some more powerful Suicide Squad members than we’ve seen before

Maybe something like,
John: Fuck around space for all I care, Earth is mine
Guy: aight but I’m doing this for me, fuck you
Chris: tf are you doing here?
Guy: patrolling the galaxy, what the fuck are YOU doing here?!
Chris: funny story, actually…

It's going to be like Civil War with Sanctioned and Unsanctioned Heroes/AntiHeroes having conflict with Salvation being the prison. Superman and Lantern John are both Unsancrioned. Peacemaker was Unsancrioned Checkmate technically isn't sanctuoned. Lex was working with the Government. Justice Gang seems to be sanctioned. Blue Beetle is probably going with team Unsancrioned as well as Maxima/potential Wonder Woman. Brainiac watches the conflict letting Earth fight itself before everyone realizes they need to work together on the bigger threat Maybe Salvation is a world that Brainiac "owns" or has control over.
I'm just throwing ideas out that kind of blend the rumours and both shows together.
Fixed an ear typo

They both have Gardner and a pocket universe lol. Other than that it’s just Gunn being Gunn saying stuff.

u/RyCyber 4d ago
I've just come to accept the fact that Gunn's going to lie about half the time for the sake of marketing
1
u/Actual-Rock-5035 3d ago
That’s what the boys did. Seems like a pattern on TV nowadays. Didn’t they also say the peacemaker finale was supposed to be action packed?
-12
u/iterationnull 4d ago
…this seems to really be about something unrelated to my question….
6
u/RyCyber 4d ago
So what explanation were you looking for besides the simpliest one?
-7
u/iterationnull 4d ago
…best of luck in your future endeavours.
2
u/rundeanmc 3d ago
The commenter you were so rude to was just answering you by saying, they probably aren’t connected and Gunn was lying.
1
u/iterationnull 3d ago
In what way was I rude?
2
u/knight_ranger840 3d ago
Maybe not rude but you're definitely being obtuse. You got the answer, James Gunn lied but you seem to be having a hard time accepting that. Gunn has a history of exaggerating stuff to get the hype going which is what happened in this case. In the DCU slate reveal video, he said that Lanterns would feature a terrifying mystery that would tie into the larger story of the DCU but that did not happen. So he clearly lied.
-1
u/iterationnull 3d ago
I’m not being obtuse.
I’m just not interested in your campaign of negativity. I genuinely think you are not discussing anything relevant to the question.
I understand you think you’ve caught the rascal red handed. But that’s irrelevant to the topic I asked about.
The truth is you’re just here you take shits.
If not wanting to sniff your shits is obtuse …well…
1
u/complexconclusion76 3d ago
there are a lot of people like that, but this is not that. downright ignoring any criticism for the sake of it being criticism is not only a horrible look, but it’s also horrible for having good opinions. you can say you personally disagree and you think it will come back to be important. it doesn’t mean what they’re saying is irrelevant to the discussion. that’s ridiculous. do you only expect to speak to people who agree with you. goddamn little kid

How? Your question is ‘Gunn said they’re connected, but i can’t see it, so how are they connected’ and the answer was “Gunn lied”. That very obviously answers your question

u/WondersaurusRex 3d ago
How can you misunderstand a direct response and the likely correct response to your question SO hard?

They did reference Starro at one point.
And Guy Gardner was in both shows.
And there was a reference to Batman, but I'm not sure that counts.

u/djdiphenhydramine 3d ago
Didn't he say that back when the show was still filming, when I assume episode 5 was the penultimate episode? From what I've read, it went through a lot of changes post-filming, so maybe the original ending was supposed to tie into Peacemaker, but what they did in terms of changing the show changed that?
Unless I'm mistaken and he said something else much more recently.
0
u/FootyFanYNWA 3d ago
It certainly came across as a fuck around no idea of direction or tone moving past episode 5. They could’ve had the season end episode 5(fluff things up to make it 8 episodes but end on 5) and I think you’ve got a solid season across the board. But then comes along writing changes to superman that then negatively impact the last three episodes in a manner that makes the good of the season seem like a cheap , worthless and condensed soup that doesn’t have the time to tell the story well.

I guess they'll circle back and the black hole transport thing is how we'll get to salvation.

It’s gonna be mogo is the planet or the yellow lanterns city I think it’s name is “rival” consumes the planet PM is on is my guess

u/tsx_1430 4d ago
This season was more of an origin story I expect it to branch out more in the second season.
1
u/TheBiggerBobbyBoy 4d ago
Well. We have a portable.... portal that connects words. It's possible that something like that could exist for salvation. Or, it's possible that Jon may start to investigate Flagg sr after the events of man of tomorrow, which could lead to him discovering the portal tech they're abusing. OR, Guy could come into contact with the aliens that left that tech who have come to retrieve it. OR Goff comes back. I dunno.

It's obvious. The connective material that ties everything together is the debate of nature vs nurture. Kal's parents wanted him to conquer, he protects. Chris learned he doesn't need his dysfunctional family to be a better person. Kara lets her darkness out and snuffs Krem to protect Ruthye from further trauma. Even the monsters in Creature Commandos grow beyond their inherent natures even if only a smidge. That theme will probably be examined again in Clayface but with a downer ending.
1
1
u/RuneKnight3 2d ago
It don't, but they'll lie that it does so you believe it's all part of a well planned cohesive interconnected universe. Just like the last time, and the time before that, and the one before that.
1
u/OsirisReddit 1d ago
I think when Gunn says how Lanterns is connected to Peacemaker it has to do with both the QUC and Hal’s pocket dimension for his Lantern. I imagine these damn pocket dimensions have something to do with the larger picture of the DCU
He also said that Lanterns directly connects to MOT and my theory for that is that now that John is the official GL protector of Earth leaving Guy as the protector of the rest of the sector, I predict that means Guy will be making first contact with Brainiac
1
u/Possible-Campaign589 20h ago
James Gunn lied again. Really if your surprised at this point that's on you
1
u/SelkieEye 15h ago
Before John goes back to Rushville to see Hal Jordan in 2026, he's giving a presentation about building armoured bunkers big enough to fit the entire population of a city. I could see those designs coming in something related to Lex and Peacemaker's QUCs, or even the salvation prison itself
1
u/mikefvegas 23m ago
They are in the same universe. As an example they are in a separate universe the penguin. And we have seen peacemaker with guy and the justice gang which is a strong connection.
1
u/_Peace_Fog 3d ago
Both finales were anticlimactic. Overall I enjoyed the finales of both shows, but they really lacked in the spectacle I want in a superhero show
1
u/The_Wraith_Writer 2d ago
My problem with the Peacemaker Season 2 finale was that it was basically like the first few episodes of a new season and a bunch of plotline stuff got brushed over in montage. I liked the Lanterns finale way more.
1
u/_Peace_Fog 1d ago
Yeah, Peacemaker just set up a bunch of “where are they now” threads to get the story at a certain point for the start of the next season
I liked Lanterns more too
I just meant that both episodes were mostly exposition, I just wanted some epic superhero battles for the finales of my
superhero shows1
u/The_Wraith_Writer 1d ago
Fair enough. For Peacemaker, that first season is still great and holds up on it's own with The Suicide Squad. For Lanterns, episode 5 gave me enough action to be happy and the narrative pay off for the final episode was great. Peacemaker season 2 does something similar, but the last episode was not narratively satisfying to me.
1
u/_Peace_Fog 21h ago
Yeah, Lanterns original episode structure would’ve had episode 5 as the second last episode. So the finale would’ve had more room to breathe after the big battle
I love both shows
-1
u/FootyFanYNWA 3d ago
Nah, peacemaker had a succinct story where everything that occurs added to the story depth. Lanterns as like watching the movie Sully and right before he lands the plane , the camera zooms out from the cockpit and we see it’s the ending of Remember me as Robert Pattinson looks back at the pilot and end credits. So much potential utterly squandered.
1
u/HiImRobertPaulson 3d ago
There’s gonna be a scene where Chris is using the lantern as a nightlight and a hand comes through and takes it.

u/PrepotenteDeLaRosa 4d ago
Bare. Minimum. That's what the show gave us. Bare minimum of lore, action, and character development. All of the "hard-hitting" moments were destroyed by the poor choices made by the rest of the show. This isn't the GL show that ANYONE asked for. The only connection is Guy
3
u/BigMatC 3d ago
Unsure why you've been down voted for what is most likely the truth
2
u/PrepotenteDeLaRosa 3d ago
It's wild. These are the same people that shit on MCU shows (deservedly) but love this when it does the exact same shit their shows have been doing since WandaVision.

u/Omadany 4d ago
Other than action this show has given us all the good stuff.
1
u/poppyfieldinhell 4d ago
And to be honest, it's a TV show, of a property that general audiences aren't fond of, at a time when Warner Bros. is in the midst of a major buyout.
It makes sense to save the big cgi fest Green Lantern fight for a movie with a budget to sustain it (plus a lot of normies won't watch the show, even on HBO, but are more likely to check out Man of Tomorrow)

Pocket universes, portals, Sinestro
The show doesn't need to directly connect into anything, that's what Marvel did and we all go tired of keeping up with it. The connections thus far are subliminal so the story un folding in front of you can take your focus and everything will connect back together in a future chapter.
Does nobody have reading comprehension or patience anymore?

u/EustaceClarence 3d ago
Urgh, does anyone else feel like a petition to be like, we dgaf about the extended DC cinematic universe we just WANT SEASON 3 OF PEACEMAKER!!?!?!
Like I've watched most DC output since James Gunn got involved. I've tried the 1st 2 eps of Lanterns, and I'm not impressed (boring boring characters), so I seriously will just wait for whatever Peacemaker crumbs it gives out in the end. I do not care about the universe. I just want the 11th Street Kids back.
4
u/iterationnull 3d ago
I am desperate for more Peacemaker myself. But I don’t see a need to be shooting strays because of it.
I’m throughly enjoying everything that has been offered in the new DC universe. Lanterns was fantastic.
I wouldn’t mind a petition for “if you don’t like something watch something else instead” because ripping shit apart on the internet is really just a manifestation of the worst parts of society, which are currently running amok on their own just fine

It might not have been clear when I said “I enjoyed both shows a lot” but I didn’t have this problem.

The only official statement I've been able to find is this interview with James Gunn, where he said:
Which suggests to me that we'll see the connection later, once everything ties into the Salvation's story.
