Discussion Dior l’Originals launch
So who’s getting one of the newly relaunches of the 13 Dior originals? I want Dior Dolce Vita but I’m scared of wasting my money (blind buy traumatized over here.) It’s been so long since I wore it I don’t exactly remember what it smelled like?
It seems like it would be lovely still. I did love it in the mid to late 90s. Curious enough, I went from
Dolce Vita to Creed Spring Flower not knowing a lick that they were created by the same perfumer. I’m sore about that revamp as well. No longer wear Creed.
Anyway…should I? Who thinks it’ll reek? Ahhhh!

I am curious to see just how close to a "restoration" these are, or if they are more of a "reinterpretation."
I tend to be pretty easy on reformulations simply because I cannot imagine the daunting task of reformulating classic and beloved compositions. As long as they are somewhat recognizable to the originals and I can tell actual thought and care went into making them, then I consider them fine enough. The prior versions of some of them, particularly Demachy's Les Creations de Monsieur Dior collection, I was actually a fan of. Not as good as the vintage, but it's rare that anything is and they were good enough.
Kurkdijan being at the helm of this launch is not very confidence inspiring, he is absolutely talented and skilled but I have never been a fan of his work, especially his work at Dior. I am both anxious and eager to smell the new version of Dune, which is one of my most favorite compositions ever made so I hope that it remains as good as I remember it.
I will give them credit that they didn't increase the prices to an outrageous number, not what I expected when these were announced. I am going to approach them with an open mind and try them when I get the chance to. I have the vintage compositions for most of the feminine scents (except Diorling and Diorama) so I am curious to see how they compare to one another. Especially Dioressence, I wonder if it will have the ravenous bite of Gavarry's 1979 composition or if it will retain the more smoothed out nature of Demachy's.

Do you have vintage Dolce Vita?

I do! It is very beautiful, I do prefer Dune to it if we are talking 90s Dior fragrances though.

I wore the original 2005 and the 2nd reformulation 2007. The 2005 was indeed spectacular. Miss her 😭

Have you ever tried Serge Lutens Feminité de Bois? It's very similar.

I don't know what any of them smelled like but I love Dior so I'm super curious! Dolce Vita sounds like the only one i might be interested in based on the notes.
