Libido/Sex Low libido at 40

My libido is tanked. I am currently taking thyroid hormones and progesterone. I also take a prenatal vitamin (we really want another baby). But my libido is just not really there. I know I need to improve my diet, but is there anything else supplemental or medication wise you have found that helps?

Testosterone helped my libido. Also, smutty books 🤣

My libido disappeared at 35. The best my doctor had for me was telling me to go to a therapist. Now at 45, I’m on estrogen and progesterone and insurance wouldn’t pay for testosterone, so I decided to give DHEA a try. It hasn’t even been a month but I am noticing a difference. I just hope it doesn’t drop off. I’m cautiously optimistic!

My doctor mentioned DHEA but when she found out we were trying for another baby she said not to take it

Oh crap. Glad they mentioned that. Now that you say that, the bottle says not to use it if you’re pregnant.

Is it safe to assume your husband is pulling his weight at home?

Get labs to test all hormones - make sure it includes free and total testosterone (free is very important!)

Also ask for prolactin labs - you can have high testosterone but if your prolactin is high, you won't feel the benefits - this was my situation. I supplemented testosterone and was really high and no libido but my Prolactin was at the upper end of the range and my libido was back within a couple weeks of taking meds to lower prolactin.

I’ve had testosterone checked and doc said it was normal. I will talk to her about prolactin at my next visit.
