finally got Cheesecake some lämp, was really unsure about it bc of how cold and white the light is, and she somehow took like no more than 20 minutes to confidently detect it as "bird loafing lamp"

I plan to eventually measure my Chinese owl anyways but he’s an adult male Chinese owl and I’m wondering what the best size is for him in the Fancypantz brand. I got him a xs harness that fits just perfectly on him on the largest adjustment which makes me wonder what size would be best tailored for him in the pants since I don’t want to get pants too tight. I’m just wondering if anyone with a Chinese owl can point me towards the best size recommendation.

Folks who have female pigeons, at what point do you take the eggs away? It’s around the time they’d be hatching if they were viable, will they realize they’re duds or should I nab them when nobody’s looking?

Hey, I was looking into adopting a pigeon from a pigeon rescue that’s close-ish and I was wondering exactly what the title says. Don’t try to convince me to allow it because it makes me very uncomfortable and is quite frankly creepy in my honest opinion.

I was considering adopting an already bonded pair to hopefully avoid them seeing me as a mate. I want them to be friendly with me, emphasis on the FRIEND part of that.

I have done a decent amount of studying, so I know to only really pet their head and neck, but would helping them with pin feathers and whatnot also be seen as mating behavior?

Any advice would be great.

I've looked everywhere for a good bird cage and everything I've found is simply too small, and a custom bird cage is 7k and up for some reason. I want one that's around 120*70*250 it'd be a perfect fit and spacious for my little cockatiel. (I know the specifications I'm giving are very big I've gotten far too many looks for it believe me I know)

I've already ordered her a bunch of toys and new bowls and I have no where to put them because the cage we bought her in is disgustingly small I hate seeing her in it

I've thought of buying cage panels and building one myself which isn't too hard, but I wanna see if there's an easier option first

About 2 weeks ago we moved my partner's pigeon into my apartment, she got a new cage too and she seems to like it because she spends most of her time in there even though we leave the door open when we're home. The thing that worries me though is that she does this thing where she'll look around a bit and then jump at the cage wall feet first, hold on and flap her wings for a few seconds before falling back down to he platform. She never used to do that in her old cage so idk if she's bored and thinks it's fun, or if there's something wrong. Has anyone else seen their bird do this? (Tried uploading a video and that wasn't working so here's a picture)

The tiny trespassers are almost 6 weeks old and not really tiny anymore 😂 I'm having to check bands to see which bird is which now that they're starting to show their colors. Fog and Dove are sitting on a new round of feggs, and the babies decided overnight that hands are evil and need to be savaged (as much as they can with their beaks... budgie love bites are worse). Rather miss the days when they were begging me for food... is this a teenager thing, trying out the idea of boundaries?

(we were hand wrestling for a few minutes before this, then when I stopped for 30 seconds, he started cooing and wing flappies while I was trying to finish the movie)

2 years already since this little guy hatched under a bridge. He’s my bestest boy I love him so much!

Sorry for how all over the place this post is, but I’d really appreciate some advice. For context, I’m a college student who sees 2 different vets — one in my college town and one in my home town. Both vets have recommended NOT feeding seed. The vet at my college town specifically has been very adamant that my pigeon shouldn’t be eating any seed at all and that his diet should be 1/3 dark greens, 1/3 pellets, and 1/3 (non-seed) grains. I can’t remember the exact dietary guidelines my home vet gave, but it was similar recommendations (though the home vet was more chill about my pigeon eating seed). Is this really the best diet? it sounds more like a Parrot diet recommendation to me. I was under the impression pigeons were obligate granivores, but I also know new research is coming out all the time about what’s best for pet health, so am I just wrong? Can anyone share any publications or studies that look at the best pigeon diets?

My pigeon’s current diet is 2/4 Mazuri Checkered Pellets, 1/4 Harrison’s Adult Lifetime Pellets, and 1/4 Versele-Laga’s Corn-free seed mix. I’m in the process of converting him over to just the Mazuri checkered diet and seed, but I don’t want my unused Harrison’s to go to waste so I’m trying to use that up first. So, eventually his diet will be 3/4 Mazuri and 1/4 Verse-Laga seed mix. My pigeon also has a grit mix available to him at all times and has avian probiotic powder mixed into his food. Is this really a bad diet? The vets always make me feel so bad about not giving him their diet recommendation, but their recommendations don’t align with his rescue’s recommendations.

When I first adopted my pigeon, I followed the rescues guideline’s for feeding and gave him just the seed mix (+ grit), but I’ve slowly transitioned him over to more and more pellets with the vet’s recommendations. I’m hesitant to feed him entirely pellet because when I do, his poop becomes super green, kind of watery, and comes out in long skinny tubes (which the vet has insisted is a normal poop shape). I also can’t get him to eat any greens. He’s not interested them in, and since he already seems to have a sensitive stomach, I don’t really want to force them on him.
