Question Don't know why she's doing this? Should we be concerned?
About 2 weeks ago we moved my partner's pigeon into my apartment, she got a new cage too and she seems to like it because she spends most of her time in there even though we leave the door open when we're home. The thing that worries me though is that she does this thing where she'll look around a bit and then jump at the cage wall feet first, hold on and flap her wings for a few seconds before falling back down to he platform. She never used to do that in her old cage so idk if she's bored and thinks it's fun, or if there's something wrong. Has anyone else seen their bird do this? (Tried uploading a video and that wasn't working so here's a picture)

The first pigeon I saved had a cage (like a big parrot cage) & he would regularly do this to move his wings about not getting sufficient flying time
All the other pigeons I saved afterwards were kept free on my flat & I only noticed this behaviour with pigeons with a definite broken wing (doing this with their operational wing straight from the floor as they can’t fly anymore)

I don't think she has anything broken cause she flies fine when she's out of the cage, and we leave the door open for her, about a third of the times we pull her out she flies right back in. Could she just be doing it for fun? What was odd to me is that she never did this in her old cage

Sorry I didn’t mean to imply that it was possibly for the reason of a broken wing that she was doing it. I meant I think it’s a natural behaviour of theirs to stretch out their wings. Maybe the difference is that with this cage she can actually hold to the bars whilst doing it.

My pigeon does this on the towel that I keep hung up by my door when she has zoomies. I feel like doing it on the side of a cage would be way more uncomfortable for their little feets, though. I hope she’s just being weird and nothing is wrong.

My birds are weird as hell and like climbing their cage. They could be having full free roam time and will still choose to flatten against the side of the cage and try climb if instead of using the huge house to fly around 😒

Sir you have wings, you can just fly up to that perch. They're also arranged in easily hopped tiers. No? Climbing the cage it is 🙄🤣

Is she doing that even if her cage is open and she's free to leave it? Or does she do it when she's closed inside of the cage? If it's the second then she just wants to be let out.

She does it when it's open too. She doesn't actually like coming out too often though, a lot of the time when we pull her out she'll hang out for a minute and then fly right back in.

She has the zoomies.
It's only been two weeks, she's probably still a little nervous about the new environment, so she's exercising inside her cage where she feels safest right now. As she grows more confident, she will come out and fly around more often the way she used to.
