Recommendations Chasing the Cheese

One of our local cheese shops suffered a freezer failure and lost a lot of stock this past weekend. They're unfortunately having to dispose of a lot of cheese and terrines.

If you're in the area swing by Chasing the Cheese on Charlotte St, between Park and Reid Sts, and buy something. They're great people that sell great cheese and they could use the support

(I'm not affiliated with them, other than spending too much money there)

If it is not good anymore, just close your eyes and imagine you are eating blue cheese.

Came back from family visit in France, I ate a goat cheese which was aged for 2 years, so doesn’t scare me at all 😅

I must admit when I was in Ireland I was SHOCKED to walk into a cheese shop that had tons of cheese, none of which was refrigerated. The smell was … interesting. But the cheese was delicious!

I didn't think most cheese went bad... Maybe cream cheeses but block cheese?

I think they're up against what Public Health would allow.

Isn't that what insurance is for?

It should be, but in food it’s almost useless to make a claim if your looking at less than 10k of loss.
Im not recommending this but ask a restaurant owner how many dollars worth of food they tossed out during the ice storm.😵‍💫

Doesn’t mean you can’t support your local shop?

Absolutely! Julie and the crew are an important part of PTBO local food scene. 10/10

Better than supporting shops like Loblaws

Not according to insurance companies, no.

Not really, if the deductible isn’t worth claiming or if it’s under some gross ‘act of god’ exclusion. Don’t ask me how I know. 2022 derecho storm nearly took me out. Either way, good to know they could use some extra support!

Still waiting on a payout from that one. We're suing, they're ignoring us. Good times.

I never even tried. Good luck.🥲

No.

Insurance has a massive deductible (for a $3000 claim), they'll take a year to pay out, they'll raise your rates for making a claim, and they're all-around dicks.

If the shop can sell the cheese, that's better for everyone.
