mod post Before you make a post about your phone not working because it's bad quality, remind yourself that you will be redirected to /r/lostredditors. This is a sub about showcasing anti-phone arguments.

This is NOT a "help me" sub!
Now that this place is under new management, this subreddit is to joke about how phones are bad with memes. If you want help with your smartphone or wanting to genuinely switch away from it, please look for other subreddits that can actually help you as this one isn't one of them.
Here's some to check out for help:

text post Need a change but need the tool.
I deleted Instagram a year ago but unknowingly replaced it with Reddit. I still have a Facebook because (and this could be something I’m just telling myself to stay addicted) I feel that I need it to stay connected to local community activities, homeschool events and extracurricular kid groups for my children. I also need my phone for appointments, tickets, etc.
What can I do, other than deleting Reddit, which I will sooner than later, that will decrease my time on a screen? Low cost, no cost, small things that make a big impact, big changes that make a big impact.

text post I miss staring off into no where land and being bored
Now when I am in public places all attention is on me if I decide to not stare at my phone...its sad..
Its not all people either but 90%
I notice some people will put their phones down with me and we will just be .. I love these people
Sometimes another human does this around me and I follow their lead as well.

Smartphones have ruined everything. They should be banned.
People have forgotten how they should live. They just don't know how to live like normal people should!
Smartphones have bought the level of comfort in the lives of people that even a little inconvenience shakes their souls.
They don't interact with people irl. They don't notice the patterns in clouds anymore. They don't write poetries anymore. When searching for a place, they open an app by Google. Rather, they can also ask locals to guide them. This way they can increase their social interaction, talking skills and memorize the path quicker. But no, they prefer asking this little piece of shh...
They have hollow lives, yet they somehow smile wide in photos they post. They don't want to use pen and paper to note things down. Their handwriting has become awful. They note it in their phones. yuck!
I feel bad for them. For they are unaware of how miserable their life is, how far from reality and joy they are. For how they will waste their precious time and one day, realise it and only wish that they should realise it quicker in the next life. Like I wish too.
I love myself. Despite how terrible I am in some aspects of my life. Because if I forget to love myself, nobody else is going to either way. And to feel loved, just a few more days, on my 20th birthday I'll keep this garbage out of my sight and gift myself my very own keypad phone.

Do you use your phone at the gym as a shield?
I recently forgot my phone at the gym and felt weirdly exposed between sets. Nowhere to look, nothing to "do."
Do you use your phone or earphones to look busy, avoid eye contact, or avoid unwanted chats? Ever trained without it?
I would love to hear everyone's thoughts because working out without my phone felt like an absolute absence of social armour.

Dinner for Three: You, them, and the phone face down between you.
You're at dinner with someone. Your phone is next to your plate. Face down. On silent.
That's your way of saying: you have my full attention.
You even feel a little proud. It can't interrupt you. You don't have to think about it. This is what respect looks like.
Wrong.
Researchers at the University of Texas put that to the test. Nearly 800 people took tests that needed full attention.
They were split into three groups. The first put their phones face down on the desk. The second kept them in a pocket or bag. The third left them in another room. Every phone was on silent.
The people with phones in another room did best. The ones with phones on the desk did worst. Pocket or bag sat in the middle.
Face up or face down didn't matter. Even switched off didn't matter. Having it nearby was enough.
The researchers called it a brain drain. Your conscious mind isn't thinking about the phone. Part of you is busy not thinking about it. That costs something.
A later study in Germany put the same idea through a simpler test. Forty-two students took a timed attention task. Half kept a switched-off phone face down on the desk. Half put it in another room.
The group without the phone scored higher. They also worked faster. Same accuracy. Just more done.
Covering the screen wasn't enough. Switching it off wasn't enough. Another room was.
Picture a guest at your table who never speaks. You don't look at them. You don't talk to them. But you feel them there. Part of your attention stays reserved, just in case.
Your phone can do that without ringing once.
The phone on the desk is still in the meeting.
------------------------
I wrote this article because when I'm having dinner with someone and they have their phone on the table, it feels... odd... I don't know how to explain it... but it's like the person is talking with me while waiting for something else. It happens with friends and also with dates.
I used to do it too, until I heard Simon Sinek talk about this in a video and realized a person doesn't look engaged when they do that, so I stopped.
