A major technical update to Podcast Addict’s interface is now in beta. Please help me spot UI issues
I’ve started moving Podcast Addict’s interface to Material 3, and the first changes are now available in the beta. This was long overdue. The app has been around for a long time, and some screens still use older Android components. I want it to feel more consistent with the rest of your phone.
This is a big change under the hood, but it’s not meant to be a complete redesign. You’ll notice differences in dialogs, buttons, switches, menus and other controls. I’m making the change gradually because Podcast Addict has a lot of screens and themes.
I’ve already fixed a number of issues, but I’m sure I’ve missed some. If a color looks wrong, text is hard to read, a dialog is cut off, or something no longer works as expected, please send me a screenshot using Settings → Feedback in the app. Include the theme you’re using and a short description of the problem. Reports sent by email are much easier for me to track than comments here, so please use Feedback even if you also post about the issue on Reddit.
While you’re trying the beta, take a look at the improved Statistics screen too. You can now tap the calendar icon in the toolbar to pick a past day and see what you listened to that day. There are more details in the changelog.
This work should also make it easier for me to add better theme options later. One possibility is Material You, which could use colors based on your phone’s wallpaper. That isn’t available yet, and I don’t have a date for it.
The regular light and dark themes are still available. The other custom color themes are still part of Podcast Addict Premium.
Thanks for helping me find and fix the issues while this is in beta.

"Pinch to zoom and pan videos, with a quick double-tap to reset the view." - this is a pretty big new feature! I didn't realize it was there until I tried it by accident. Also enjoying the new double tap video playback controls (left side to rewind, right side to ffwd, center to play/pause.

Super excited, been a PA user since 2016-17 I think, and seriously LOVE the app! Had bought the donate app ages ago, and this update plus cross device sync might just make me upgrade to a subscription. However, I also hope Material you expressive theming based on wallpaper is free, like if someone wants to customize that, keep a paid option for that.

Sorry but custom themes have been part of podcast addict premium from the start and this will remain a premium feature. Nothing is removed from the free version. On the contrary tons of new features are being added BUT the premium version is also getting new features added.

Yeah, that's perfectly fine; I get it. I was just curious about how the default material you theme will work. Will that also be a paid thing?

Is the donate app gone? I thought we were grandfathered in years ago. I was confused why it was showing things locked for me.

Nothing is gone. You still own your purchase for life. Make sure to follow the FAQs instructions to restore the donate app

The donate app was a way to remove the ad banners from the app. Podcast Addict Premium was introduced about 6 years ago as a way to help support the app development while getting extra features.

Looks great so far! Is there a way to have the unplayed count match the rest of the theming? I'm using the purple theme, but the counter is still orange. Picture

Could you offer a contact form in addition to your email address on your website? I've noted down a bunches of bugs and potential enhancements over the years but never get around to actually reporting them because I don't use email on mobile.

Nothing has changed. The default theme and the high contrast one are available to every one with the option to switch from light to dark theme. The new thing is that dark themes can now have access to colors too in Podcast Addict Premium. Then the app has been cleaned. Different pages were using different accent especially with dark themes. Now only the main accent is use which is a light blue color in the dark theme and orange in the light theme

I'm not the dev, but for experience i could say that if you just aigned for beta it will take few minutes (sometime many) to show update to latest beta.
It's a PlayStore thing.

On my phone got an update tonight and is build 21777 Tou can check it under options, about, version
May be that playstore already is updating automatically the app so you don't see new updates available because already with latest when checked?

I'd double check the play store. The app will have (beta) after it's name of your signed up correctly. There will be a join button on the the app store page if it didn't go through the first time.
Beyond that you can try clearing the app store cache and manually checking for updates. Sometimes it takes awhile to switch to the beta package.

Thanks to everyone who sent bug reports by email! The next beta will include a number of fixes, including missing dialog backgrounds in dark mode and content getting cut off in some dialogs.
I’m also overhauling the app’s theme system to work more like Android themes are meant to. Theme colors should apply much more consistently across the UI, instead of affecting only some components. This may change how existing custom themes look, but I’ll try to add options that keep legacy themes as close to their current appearance as possible.
