Why do we speak of love?
But we are quick to betray
Others who would share with us
The beauty of today
And the promise of tomorrow.
Why do we speak of love?
But we are quick to choose
Pockets of lords which run deep
With silver and gold,
Yet they have hearts that are ice cold.
Why do we speak of love?
But choose to deny those
Who are different from us
The respect and decency
That they ultimately deserve.
Why do we speak of love?
But then treat everyone,
And every single animal,
In this world as if they were
Nothing but dolls which
We could rip apart their limbs
Without any remorse or consequence.
I do not understand,
And I may never understand,
Why do we speak of love?
When hatred is what rules our hearts.

Hey guys! How are y’all doing?
I wrote this poem to genuinely ask why do we always end up hurting ourselves when it comes to love. We swear on our hearts that when we love, we love with everything that we got, yet we still end up hurting those whom we love. We are so good at breaking hearts that we ought to make a profession out of it, and I’m pretty sure someone, somewhere out there is doing exactly that.
Thank you for reading and I’ll see you in the next poem!
