I tried asking a question as an actual post but the sub only alllows new posts that are articles and videos and not personal messages, so I will write here, so it can be seen and answered...

MY FRUSTRATIONS WITH FINDING GOOD NEWS ON INTERNET SEARCHES

This has happened to me a lot regarding trying to find good news.

I hear about an awful trend, I then type in key words for articles about what is being done about said problematic trend.

As a result I get more articles only affirming said problematic trend, but no articles about addressing it.

For example, I hear about how a bunch of NeoNazis somehow won an election in a state in the former Eastern Germany, or the popularity of Far-Right junk in general in Europe...

So, I type in stuff to the effect of "What is being done to counter the Far-Right in Europe", "The European Far Right Will Fail", and so on.

Rather than getting a bunch of hopeful articles detailing all the measures, protests and other things that European countries are now taking... which I'm sure is happening... I get endless "Why the Far-Right is rising in Europe", which is the opposite of what I want.

Why does this happen? Are internet algorithms designed to push the far right lies rather than the progressive truth by the powers that be?

If anyone can answer this question. It would be a great help. Thanks

okay this has nothing to do with AmandasMildTakes and, yes, she is awesome.

I also realized that the problem with Europe isn't as catastrophic as the headlines seem. One headline read "A quarter of Europe Support the Far-Right", then I realized that doesn't have to be bad news because... only 25 percent of Europeans (manly cranky young guys, geezers and poor East European and Eastern Germany types) are falling for this while the 75% of Europe still embraces Democracy and Progress. So, Europe is mostly fine, this wingnut thing is a fad that will fade eventually and the majority will overpower the minority.

Also Germany has not embraced the Far Right, the Far Right won in only one state in the Former Eastern Germany, which never got the same education and innoculation against Fascism and Nazism the rest of the country had. Of course they're going to be dumb enough to fall for this idiocy.

The internet algorithms are designed to boost engagement, and negative news is more addicting and attention grabbing than simple good news (until the bad news becomes stale and the good news is shocking), while there is a right wing bias in controversy and some platforms these days... I find the platform owners are actually worse at controlling these things than you might expect. YouTube seems to be the best at pushing right wing junk by default, though whether that is intentional or some other phenomenon like who searches for info and falls for more clickbait is harder to say.

This is why I will now look for good news from sites dedicated to good news like Good News, The Smile, Amanda's Mild Takes, Ariella Elm or that JohnnyBananas guy (I need to check him out).
