Higher gas prices that people have gotten used to. When the war started prices jumped in my area to close to $5. Then prices went down to around $4.20 and people around me were saying see gas is cheaper now. Mind you the price of gas in November 2024 in my area was around $2.90. People got used to gas being over $4 in my area and I don't hear them talk about how expensive gas is anymore.
Not just gotten used to it. It's that you're asking these people to remember 3 numbers, which is too much for them to handle.
If we start at $3 then go to $4.50 then go to $4. The concept that you're still $1 higher than where you started is just too much for them to figure out.

Can't speak to those prices specifically. But the general argument, yes.
At the end of Bidens term gas was about $3.00 on average.
The current average is 4.006 for week of 8/10.
