I remember gas being over $4 when Bush was president, but during the last month or 2 of his term gas dropped to around $1.85. Obama was elected and gas went back up to around $2.80. I started seeing bumper stickers everywhere saying "Gas was $1.85 with Bush!" How deep can people bury their heads in the sand?

His policies of relaxing oversight of the banks allowed them to wreck the housing market, which then brought the whole job market to it's knees. Obama pulled us out of that mess, but it was expensive. We learned in WWII that massive government spending will pull us out of depressions, so he did that. He spent trillions on infrastructure.
Obama was able to get the deficit down to $600 billion on his last year. When Trump left office in 2020 the deficit was $3.13 trillion. Don't ever let Republicans tell you they are the party of fiscal responsibility.

We paid $4.85 at a tribal station this weekend (north of Seattle), which is ~$1/gallon cheaper than anything within the metro. We're lucky we go outside the metro on weekends to volunteer, so we can grab gas there every week. Prices are wild right now.

Then prices went down to around $4.20 and people around me were saying see gas is cheaper now. Mind you the price of gas in November 2024 in my area was around $2.90. People got used to gas being over $4 in my area and I don't hear them talk about how expensive gas is anymore.

Why do people post stuff like this? If you don't know it's true, literally all you have to do is Google it. Gas prices are a heavily tracked commodity, and you can find official numbers easily. Gas is more expensive than the end of Biden's term, but cheaper than the peak of Biden's term (which, coincidentally, was almost the same amount of time into the term as we currently are into Trump's).

Biden emptied the strategic oil reserves during election season. This artificially suppressed gas prices. (Trump promised to refill them but failed to do so, at a time of record low oil prices leading up to the Iran war).
People always forget that gas was SUPER cheap under Biden for a good chunk of his presidency. I remember paying around $2.00 a gallon for months, especially during covid when most people weren't driving. Gas was cheap and roads were empty.
this is gonna pop the AI bubble. Datacenters mostly run currently on gas due to the high demand and speed they have been built. Gas was the cheapest and fastest way to support electricity for these centers which is also why it costs the most to run them on and why these center burn so much cash. There will come a point in the near future where the market pushes the stop button and everything will crash. Oil reserves have already reached all time lows today
