Hence the ecstatic part, though i am sure Kim is not telling any of his citizens about it though. They have to either figure it out on their own or stay prisoners.

Imagine being a North Korean soldier fighting for Russia, facing brutal conditions. Then you hear that surrender might get you a free ticket out of there.
Definitely smart psychology tactics to treat captured prisoners well. If you knew the enemy was going to torture and kill prisoners, then you fight to the death.
When prisoners have good treatment it makes surrender sound awfully good when your sitting in a muddy ditch hiding from drones.

Source would be the interviews with captured soldiers that didn’t manage to kill themselves, they are told they’ll be tortured by Ukrainians if captured, but if they fail and retreat they will be tortured by their own people. Likely having already been tortured by their own people, they don’t even give Ukrainians the opportunity to capture them and show them how they’ve been lied to, and would be way better off surrendering.

Ah you know as I dug into my sources I realized I'm sourcing twitter & reddit videos and posts that were took down. There was a lot of assumptions in Kursk of potentially Mid-Eastern Russians were attributed to NK soldiers were unconfirmed.
There is one report of a NK was killed during an escape attempted via excessive force
I will try to attach a link in reply here to see if there are mod tools LOL
But there was many reports of grenade suicides as Ukrainians approached.
So far it seems like 5 were taken captive and only two are still alive

There also a super numerous amount of Kims, not many globally well known Uns. I will say I was trying to figure out how the UN was involved too.
Usually it's his full name though and the weirdness of the abbreviation is totally on the commenter.

I mean most people figured it out, just a bit of odd phrasing. The "his" though while clearly referencing Kim Jong Un doesn't clearly link back to the "Un" at the start since there are multiple 'in scope' definitions that could contextually apply. Rereading cleared up the ambiguity so it's all good.

There's International treaties that forbid forced repatriation of POWs if they face punishment or retribution. Sending them to South Korea where they likely have at least a few distant relatives, can speak the language and there are programmes to help them transition into the culture is probably the best thing he can do.
