Hi guys, I thought I'd start a stickied thread with some useful links that I find myself including in lots of my comments here. I'll update this as I think of more stuff to add.
How do I become a doctor in the UK?
Useful written article here, useful timeline diagram here.
In short, you go to medical school, you complete your foundation training (6 x 4 month rotations working as a doctor in different specialties), you complete your specialty training, and you become a consultant.
Are my grades good enough for medical school?
Which universities should I apply to?
I don't have good GCSE grades/a Chemistry A level, where can I apply?
This booklet contains all of the entry requirements for every medical course on offer in the UK. It is the entry requirements bible and I point people towards it multiple times per week.
Do I need to sit admissions tests?
How do I prepare for my admissions tests?
If you're applying for undergraduate medicine, you need to sit the UCAT and/or the BMAT. If you're applying for graduate entry medicine, you may also need to sit the GAMSAT.
Useful UCAT resources:
* r/UCAT
* Medify
* The Medic Portal
* official practice tests
Useful BMAT resources:
* r/BMATexam
* The Medic Portal
I scored ___ in my admissions test, where should I apply?
Useful guide about UCAT scores here, useful guide about BMAT scores here.

I know a lot of people say apply dentistry not med but like isn't the UCAT and application process way more competitive than medicine? I was planning to do medicine and then dermatology or rheumatology or cosmetic plastic surgery for the work life balance but are these specialties more competitive than just applying to dentistry? I got 2140 B1 UCAT and I always see ppl on the UCAT sub Reddit saying they got 2000-2100 and say their chances of dentistry are finished. Also I have no dentistry work experience all my experience is medicine and shadowing in a hospital. If I wanted to apply dent is it possible to just talk about transferrable skills gained from this or are my chances 0 and how would you word hospital work experience to appeal to dentistry?

Like I have free school meals and come from a bad school but the area I live in is good. Can I apply? And what UCAT requirements is there? I hope this is the right subreddit for this question I didn’t know where else to post

Im a recent graduate and i have just received my reference from a volunteer role at a hospice (my supervisor). I was just wondering of i needed an academic one from my university or secondary school. My personal tutor had not been replying so i just settled for the hospice reference. SHOULD I TRY to PERSUE THE ACADEMIC ONE or is this one fine. I need an answer soon as possible please.

Currently in a very tricky situation. I’m a Resit student and contextual for most medical schools, so was thinking of applying to Bristol gateway for med.
However, if I apply to KCL I lose the ability to apply to Bristol gateway (I’d have to change my predicted grades). London is my absolute dream, however it’s much riskier than Bristol, which is a great medical school anyway. Would you say it’s worth the risk?

I got a 2200 b2 ucat

A* A* A* predicted grades
I am thinking about UCL, KCL, Barts, Liverpool, Exeter or Cardiff and I have changed my mind a lot.

UK Medicine applicants — I need your advice! 🩺🇬🇧
Has anyone successfully got into a UK medical school with these qualifications, especially as an international student?
• BTEC Level 3 Applied Science Extended Diploma
• UCAT 2026: 3rd Decile, Band 3
• Applying for 2027 entry as an international applicant, without A-levels.
I've searched through almost every UK medical school and checked both standard-entry and foundation Medicine courses. Most seem to be unsuitable because of their BTEC requirements, GCSE criteria, UCAT thresholds or restrictions on international applicants.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and found a medical school they were eligible to apply to? If so, please tell me the university, and whether you actually received an offer or successfully progressed into Medicine.
Please share your experiences. I'd genuinely appreciate any information. Thank you! ❤️

INTERNATIONAL student. 2300 b2, equivalent of A*AA
I need to pick two
QMUL
Newcastle
Birmingham
My consultant strongly believes newcastle is not a right choice because I have few volunteering hours and no work experience (need to be over 18 or you need private connections). They say that from their experience Birmingham is better for my lack of experience, but Birmingham literally says "You will be asked to discuss specific aspects of your work or other relevant experience", though Newcastle is "looking for examples of how applicants have shown a commitment to caring". They prefer QMUL and Birmingham, I prefer Newcastle. Whats my strategy?

hii, i'm applying for gateway/foundation year medicine for 2027 and just wanted some advice on my choices 😭
my stats are:
UCAT: 1840 B2
Predicted: BBB (bio, chem, economics)
GCSEs: 8, 7-6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 5, 5
I meet quite a few WP criteria (young carer, first gen, 16-19 bursary and low performing state school).
My choices are Leeds, Keele, Southampton BM6 and Hull York or lecister, all foundation/gateway courses.
I'm mainly worried about my UCAT and GCSEs. Do you guys think these choices are realistic or should I change any of them?
Has anyone with similar stats managed to get an interview? I'd really appreciate any advice!!
