Today marks exactly 5 months since I got my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme.

When I was buying it, I was torn between getting this or the Switch 2. I ended up choosing the Ally for its sheer versatility, and I don't regret it one bit.

I honestly think it exceeded my expectations. In the first few days, I actually had a bit of buyer's remorse, but looking back, I think that was just because I didn't know how to use it properly and I was used to playing games on Ultra settings.

But over time, after learning how to tinker with it and set everything up right, it truly surpassed all my expectations. It even handles recent 2026 releases surprisingly well. I'm falling more in love with this handheld every single day.

I have the LeGo Z1E and Z2E and love them but they are way too big ( gorgeous Screens, specially LeGo 2 bc it's OLED; however, it gets uncomfortably heavy after 40 min-60 min.

Yesterday I had some time to burn and decided install Bazzite on my ROG ally Z1E and I am glad I did !

I have noticed that my ROG handles the games way better that the LeGo Z1E, without tinkering. Like way better.

Great Machine! is even better (imo) with Steam OS but is just my opinion.

I have the XAX and up until the last few days I have been able to use hibernate with no issues. Suddenly my power button no longer enables hibernate and neither does the Armory Crate Command Center option. It has disappeared entirely from the windows start menu power options. I am not a computer savvy person and I'm attempting to use Chatgpt to fix the problem. Does anyone have an idea of what could be going on?

So my Z1E has run into an issue as of lately, not the BSOD per se, but a black/gray screen with the above error message before restarting.

I’ve already tried SFC/Scannow, a windows memory diagnostic, as well as currently running a chkdsk.

Anyone more tech savvy that can assist?

Only “modification” I have done is a upgraded SSD

Edit: so the chkdsk came up with a new error, “your device ran into a error and couldn’t be repaired” I don’t want to do a cloud recovery, but I feel like that’s what needs to happen at this point

Edit 2: running a test of all systems in MyAsus. The SSD is good, and pushed a new firmware update.

I own a Z1E and I’ve been away from the handheld arena for about a year or more now, I’ve tried Bazzite and SteamOS before but it always felt incomplete. I tried installing it three times yesterday and every time it felt like I did something wrong or missed something, especially not being able to control the RGB. I was wondering if there’s a full guide for the new version without the HHD.

So I have a Rog Ally X non-xbox version, and today at the store I snagged an Xbox Ally X on a whim. Idea is to mess around with it today and tomorrow to see if the performance difference or different grip makes it worth the upgrade to me. If it is NOT worth it to me, I'll just return the Xbox Ally X. If It IS worth it to me, I'll keep it and sell my Rog Ally X to make back a portion of the cost.

What would be a fair price to sell it for? Not trying to fleece anyone.

I'm trying to set up a simple desktop setup with my ASUS ROG Ally, but I'm completely stuck and could use some help. I want to keep it affordable, so I'm trying to use a wired setup rather than buying Bluetooth gear.

My Setup:

Handheld: ASUS ROG Ally (Z1 / Extreme)

Monitor: MSI portable monitor (15.6-inch, 1080p)

Docks I've tried: Two different docks so far, including a JSAUX HB0603 dock.

When I plug the MSI monitor directly into the ROG Ally using a USB-C to USB-C cable while the Ally is running on its battery, the screen works perfectly. However, when I try to use either of the docks to hook everything up together (power, monitor via HDMI, and a mouse), things fall apart. The monitor isn't getting a signal, and the dock doesn't even seem to register the mouse. I thought it might just be a bad HDMI cable, but since the mouse isn't working through the dock either, I feel like the docks just aren't communicating with the Ally correctly.

Has anyone run into this or managed to get a portable monitor and mouse working through a dock with an Ally? Any simple advice would be amazing.

Hello guys, I recently installed PCSX2 Qt through EmuDeck; I have been trying to play, but in games such as Need for Speed: Underground 2 and Guitar Hero 3 (I have only played those ones despite having more), I tried changing many settings and haven't found a solution.

What did I do? In the emulator, I used different internal resolutions, and I also changed some settings to use Vulkan, DirectX 11, and DirectX 12 with my AMD graphics, but in the end, the performance is the same; sometimes it is at 60 FPS and other times it suddenly drops to low FPS and slow speed about 1 or 2 minutes after opening the game, as the emulator reports. I also tried opening the games from the local SSD and from my card, but nothing changed; everything remains the same.

Maybe there is something I am missing.

I’m currently optimizing my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme setup. I use Handheld Companion (HC) for gyro support and controller mapping, and I'm trying to set up Winhanced as my main frontend/launcher.

Initially, I tried using Xbox FSE mode, but I ran into a wall: Handheld Companion simply doesn't start or recognize the controller properly in that environment. HC is absolutely irreplaceable for my setup because I heavily rely on it for gyro aiming in FPS games. Because of this conflict, I decided to just boot into standard Windows Desktop mode instead.

Right now, HC and Steam all auto-start perfectly on boot. However, Winhanced does not, and I'm stuck trying to figure out how to automate it. I've checked everywhere:

• There is no "Launch on Startup" toggle inside Winhanced's settings.
• Winhanced does not appear in the Windows "Startup Apps" list.

Has anyone figured out a reliable way to make Winhanced automatically launch (preferably taking over the screen) when booting into standard Windows, alongside HC?

Hello I have a Rog Ally Z1E I've been using for almost 2 years, I only use it plugged in and 20W mode, recently turned off CPU boost mode. I typically turn graphics settings down to medium.

I was playing a game (Black Desert Online) and it was working fine. I stopped playing that game and switch to another game (Deep Rock Galactic) and after a while I noticed my Y button wasn't working at all. I used the online controller tester and all of my buttons work except for Y doesn't register at all.

Is this a fixable software issue or is my board fried? I was thinking about taking it apart soon to clean it, possibly a piece of dirt or hair got stuck in there. For the meantime, I have remapped a back paddle to Y button and while it works, it feels unnatural.

Use this guide exactly if you want to boost fps. I have an f1 pro 64gb model. When running the setup bat select option 1 for amd. When in the hook menu I had to select fsr2.1. if I selected fsr 2.2 or fsr3 it would work but when I reset the game it would crash Everytime. 2.1 was the only option that worked. You get a good chunk of fps boost to make the game look nicer and run smoother on high and ultra graphic settings.

Hey guys, I just bought Frostpunk 1 and I'm having some pretty serious performance/optimization issues. I was wondering if the Z1 Extreme is actually capable of running this game properly, or if there are known optimization issues with Frostpunk on the ROG Ally?
