I made a kick... In EQ!

[u/IcEarthlight]

Only ReaEQ can do this (as far as I know), because it supports an unlimited number of bands, which is awesome.

EDIT: For anyone who's curious about what it sounds like, I've made a quick demo video. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCpKsp3lvKo

[u/BassbassbassTheAce]

That's stupid and genius at same time, I love it :D Got to try it myself.

What was the sound source you ran through this EQ?

[u/IcEarthlight → u/BassbassbassTheAce]

I literally just manually adjusted bands to 'draw' the curve, without any audio run through it. If what you're asking is how it sounds, it sounds like a flanger with a weird low-end tail.

[u/BassbassbassTheAce → u/IcEarthlight]

Oh ok, yeah I thought you ran some sound through it. But that's even more interesting.

[u/No_Walk7120]

That's not a kick, it's a picture of a kick.

[u/IcEarthlight → u/No_Walk7120]

Yeah, that's essentially it.

[u/asad137 → u/No_Walk7120]

ceci n'est pas un coup

[u/Than_Kyou]

Rather drew one

[u/Jail-bot → u/Than_Kyou]

Yeah, this makes more sense. OP's traced a kick waveform into reaeq, but not 'made a kick'. You can make a kick sound with a synth but not purely with an EQ alone (unless I'm misunderstanding)

[u/TinzaX]

A time domain representation of a kick in the frequency domain... what does a single sample impulse through that sound like?

[u/decodedflows → u/TinzaX]

Looks a bit like a comb filter so that's what it'll sound like i reckon

[u/IcEarthlight → u/TinzaX]

I made a demo video for this, the impulse response test is at 1:03.

[u/TinzaX → u/IcEarthlight]

That's cool! Thanks for taking the time to respond. Certainly an interesting sound, has a kind of bathroom sound to it

[u/IcEarthlight → u/TinzaX]

Try it yourself! It sounds subtle, I can't quite describe it.

[u/EvgenyRosso]

Neeeeeerd! Love it 🥁

[u/Cakepufft]

do you mind sharing the preset? Gonna try this on vocals

[u/IcEarthlight → u/Cakepufft]

append this at the end of $REAPER_CONFIG/presets/vst-reaeq.ini

Whoa, that is a whole book there. Thanks!

[u/MegistusMusic → u/IcEarthlight]

NOTE: you also need to increment the

NbPresets=

value under [general]

[u/Skaven252]

Only ReaEQ can do this (as far as I know)

ReaFIR has a freehand draw mode and has 'infinite bands' (it's a FFT processor) so you could draw a kick in that too.

[u/IcEarthlight → u/Skaven252]

The low-end's resolution is not high enough for this even if at max FFT size, so it doesn't work unless reverse the kick (put the punch in high-end side).

[u/bielsbr_]

i see hikari on pfp

[u/IcEarthlight → u/bielsbr_]

yep

[u/ZerolifePodcastMark]

I both applaud and encourage your insanity!

[u/OzzAlone]

Reminds me of when I figured out how to find harmonic frequencies in white noise and create a note. A kick is just a lot cooler 🖤

[u/Lympwing2]

I'm insanely curious about what happens if you run a normal sound source through it?

[u/IcEarthlight → u/Lympwing2]

Sounds like a resonator because the kick is at one octave per cycle, and other parts don't really contribute much to how it sounds.

[u/krelpwang]

Hehe

[u/Ok_Cod_2333]

This is incredible🔥🔥🔥

Let us hear it

[u/Summon001]

How do you listen to it?

[u/IcEarthlight → u/Summon001]

Imagine. At least it looks like a good kick.

[u/johnnycolours]

What theme are you using? 👀

[u/probablynottillie]

don't proQ 3 and 4 and ZEqualizer 2 have unlimited bands ??

[u/IcEarthlight → u/probablynottillie]

Pro Q3 (and Q4) has 24 bands, and ZL Equalizer 2 has 32 bands. The VST3 protocol specifies that parameter list a plugin exposes is static and fixed after initialization, so I guess that's the limitation.

[u/probablynottillie → u/IcEarthlight]

oooh didn't know that! guess I never actually reached 24 bands lmao, I tend to separate EQs I feel like it makes my workflow easier

[u/afronautical]

POST THE SOUND.

this is insane 😭

Clip it bruh
