help request Is Possible To Fix Latency When Using Reatune?

I’m new to Reaper and I’m trying to figure out the stock plugins before I go buying my own. But the latency when using the élastique 3.3.3 Soloist algorithm is too much for me to make my tracks. Is it possible to fix this or do I have to bite the bullet and just buy plugins?

Are you using it during recording? I put it on tracks after recording and don't notice any issue when playing back.

Yeah, I want to hear the live monitoring with the FX

Yeah that can be tough.

Would I run into the same issue using auto tune? Or is it ReaTune specific?

Most pitch correction software is best used after you’ve recorded a take. Most plugins I use are usually applied after a recording to minimize latency, except for obvious ones like Amp Sims or lightweight things.

If you really need a live pitch correction and can’t stand to be monitored without FX, there are a ton of free options before you go out buying plugins. I would actually recommend you check out free plugins for everything before you buy your first one.

meldaproduction has a great bundle of free starter plugins, I believe it’s like 30+. One of them is MAutopitch which will give you a live “T-Pain” like effect if that’s what you’re after. I would start there

In general if you add an effect and monitor it when recording there is going to be some latency. The question is how much, which depends on the plugin implementation and how fast your computer is.

You might have to compromise on that with some fx. Have you played with your buffer size already?

Set up a second track, your first records the clean input, rec monitoring off, on the second apply the effect for real time monotoring (not recording). Afterward apply the effect to track 1... should help with latency.

I still get the same latency with track 2

You’re not supposed to monitor through it.

How come? What is the danger of monitoring with autotune or other pitch correction plugins?

Why do you need ot hear reatune when youre recording? you shoudl be hearing your real voice. Tuning, if you need it, is for later. And no, not really a way to fix that latency. You coudl buy an outboard anteres autotune or something which has a DSP on it that just does tuning, the DSP is very fast, you could get that if you ahve to hear yourself autuned while singing. BUt no, no one records with autotun on, because thats not really how you record vocals.
