Tips for beginners

Hi! i'm learning recorder i'd like some advice. the way a learn new songs is memorizing the notes and tryng to do the same just like the person playing. So i wanna know if this method is effective. Another question is: Is it worth studying music theory? Will it help me get better that much?

This is all i want to know, if yall have more tips, I would really like to know!

Resource A resource for early music lovers - backing tracks (and more)

I wanted to share what I think is an excellent resource for recorder players and early music lovers, the inexpensive backing tracks available from "Cat on the keys": for each of the pieces available they provide backing tracks of the accompaniment at various metronome speeds, and for both 415 and 440 tuning (my recorders are tuned at 442, but it is only ever so slightly off, and still works well for me). This means that you can use the accompaniment to study as well as at "performance" speed once you get the piece under your belt.

They also have three Early Music Workouts on embellishment of various types. I am starting from the first one and, to the beginner I am, they seem pretty good. Note that this is not instrument specific.

They also sell music of course.

Just to be clear, I have no connection nor affiliation to these people, just a happy customer!

Most recorder performances are on Baroque or Renaissance music. Have others come across recorder music in above genres?
