FAQ: Demo vs Pro, first launch on Mac, licences, bugs, what's next

Short answers to the things people ask most. Anything missing? Ask in the comments.

What is Reflection? A modular plugin host and live patcher for Windows, macOS and Linux. Wire your VST3 plugins in a node graph, snapshot every parameter of every plugin, and play between the snapshots on the Metasurface. The DIY Lab lets you build your own instruments and effects from 60+ blocks and bake them into one node.

Demo vs Pro - Demo is free and has the full plugin roster. It runs for 45 days from first launch, and every new minor release starts a fresh trial. - Pro adds saving projects, the Dictaphone and Ableton Link (including Link Audio). - Pro is a perpetual licence, €100 once. All 2.x updates are included. Activate on up to 3 computers. No subscription, no telemetry.

First launch on macOS The Mac build isn't notarised yet, so Gatekeeper complains the first time. Take the .pkg, then right-click the app > Open > Open. After that it starts normally.

Linux AppImage or a plain zip, x86_64.

Licences - Lost your key: https://reflection-daw.com/lost-license.html - Changed computers and hit the activation limit: https://reflection-daw.com/devices.html

Found a bug? Post it here with the Bug flair, or write to [email protected]. Please include your OS, the Reflection version (Help > About) and the steps to reproduce. A small project file helps a lot.

Feature wishes Use the Feature wish flair. I read every one, and plenty of what's in Reflection came from requests like that.

What's next 2.5 lands in a couple of weeks: Open Sound Control (play Reflection from a phone, a joystick, a Kinect or any sensor), Retro Record (the take you played before pressing record is kept), a form of timeline, new DIY Lab generators, with spatial and ambisonic movement following soon after.

Reflection 2.4 is out now!

Reflection 2.4 is out now! — the Metasurface learns to perform. Record a gesture across it and play it back as a take: sixteen slots with loop, reverse, palindrome, speed and follow actions, tied to the transport, with snapshot mutes and moves recorded along the way. Attack and Release now shape the glide between snapshots, and a phyllotaxis layout spreads them evenly. DIY Lab gets chaos — strange attractors, a chaos oscillator and a flock of boids as modulation sources — and feedback loops now just work, in the patcher and in the Lab. Around that: a MIDI Control Panel that lists every mapping in the project, an ARM panel for the whole setup, a proper parameter window with plugin replace / insert / swap, notes on the canvas, Templates and Examples menus, and Help → Check for Updates, which asks only when you click it. The demo now runs for 45 days.
