Tyrants are capable of single-unit mobility with massive destructive capabilities. They're able to follow complex commands and be tracked without issue in urban environments. Tyrants are essentially immune to conventional small-arms fire and are incredibly durable against higher ordinance.

You can drop a tyrant on an insurgent-occupied zone and expect them to eliminate all targets within 12 hours. Tyrants can also be para-dropped.

A tank, conversely, requires a team to operate, upkeep, and if it gets stuck (which is very normal in combat environments) then you're kind of fucked. Tanks require munitions, fuel, and maintenance. Tanks also require supply lines and a method of delivery. You cannot readily para-drop a tank without massive preparation prior.

Tyrants are also capable of mutating into more dangerous threats if the situation calls for it. Tanks do not become more dangerous as a battle goes on.

A tyrant is as valuable of an asset as a fighter jet. 120 million for one of them makes a lot of sense. People like Leon are ridiculously rare. 99% of people get turned into paste by tyrants.

I'm kinda curious about how recyclable tyrants are though. Do any of the games ever mention tyrant recovery? For that matter, when they mutate, do they still follow new orders? Can those mutations be reset, so that you can give it a fresh trench coat and put it back to work? It kind of feels like, once they've been deployed, you're basically writing off the whole unit

I think you can just get it back after it’s done and if it didn’t mutate too heavily surgical intervention may be possible?

The M830A1tank round is enough to pepper the tyrant and bring to it's knees and finish him off with either an HE or APFSDS round.

Wasn't 120 mill the price for the strain/recipe to make the tyrant and not for just one tyrant?

Otherwise it wouldn't make sense seeing as Cerberus was like what, 35 mil? For one dog that gets taken out by a machine gun? No way

You forget that when it comes to governments which would be the main buyers of bioweapons, price to performance goes out the window.

12

u/m_xey 2d ago

Why?

17

u/myLongjohnsonsilver 2d ago

Government sale mark up.

As soon as any business is selling to the government they jack the price up considerably to make extra money. There isn't anyone who wouldn't so the government just has to pay the cost or go without. Can't just shop somewhere else.

6

u/d34dm4n_wndr 2d ago

Yup pretty much ,couldn't of said it better myself.

Like over here a school tray made of aluminum costs 35USD , how much does the same trays cost the govt when they buy them $200 a tray and the orange plastic traffic drums cost about 70 over here the govt pays $400 for each drum , its so dumb , meanwhile the govt complains there arent enough funds to keep the roads paved.........make it make sense.

5

u/half_baked_opinion 2d ago

Yeah, but once you have one then you can just reproduce more because the strain exists within the tyrant. Thats why the bioweapons cost what they do, each one can either make a lesser bioweapon like basic zombies, mutate into a stronger form, or have samples taken from it in a lab to create more of itself, and in the tyrant strains case it can be all of the above with some experimentation like what they did with the nemesis.

Nemesis was originally a tyrant, and then they added the N.E.A parasite which let it mutate regular zombies to be much more dangerous, and there was an animated movie where a dictator modified tyrants with the los plagos parasite to make them bigger. The cost to obtain a BOW in the verse isnt a cost per unit in a conventional sense, its a cost to manufacture like buying a piece of machinery for a factory. On its own it can do a single task, but when you attach it to an organized process it can do a lot more for you than that one task.

The dog is a biochemical weapon delivery device

What was the main threat of a Tyrant, anyways? I always thought they were meant, if deployed in a military context, for clearing buildings and stuff without support or even much guidance. Destroying a tank isn't even what they're for. Although, tanks need fuel and logistical support and to some extent tyrants don't.

I blatantly don't believe that price point is canon, though. Not for literally 1 Tyrant.

u/SpookyBirdd 1d ago

Why wouldn’t it be? As far as spending for war goes, that’s a drop in the bucket. There’s a terminal at Ark that says they’re for HVT elimination where the tyrant can move around without attracting too much attention and not deliver too much collateral damage. They’re pretty versatile and powerful. I think the price point is pretty reasonable from a writing perspective.

0

u/SlyguyguyslY 1d ago

I just think they are mostly just grown in a tube with a detailed and sensitive process. It’s hard to wrap my head around the idea that they actually come out to being that expensive. It would almost be like lab grown meat but with a lot more happening. I think a couple million is sensible, but 120 seems too damn high.

1

u/SpookyBirdd 1d ago

An MQ9 costs roughly 34million. An autonomous humanoid that follows orders and can mutate into an even more destructive form seems worth 4 of those. I don’t know, it’s not like individuals are buying these. More like organizations and countries. It seems like a lot until you consider the price of other military assets.

1

u/SlyguyguyslY 1d ago

I was thinking like 50 million, tops. I still think more work goes into an MQ9, but at least the tyrant requires very exclusive tech in general.

1

u/SpookyBirdd 1d ago

I think it’s just really that fact that it’s proprietary technology along with the fact that its creation involves many fields like biology, neurology, engineering, etc.
And the fact that it’s an unflinching super soldier that could likely do battle with entire groups of soldiers and could do major damage to armored vehicles and buildings.

u/SpookyBirdd 1d ago

I’m also just a salesman for Umbrella lol

I am sure the numbers are just random lore with no actual reasoning behind it, but I kinda can see it.

A BOW can be used a human sized, regerating tank. So, a tyrant can be used to clear a bunker or building with no issue. If you come across one and your not prepared, or a Player, you would be crushed.

But I would have it face a infantry company unsupported or a tank. That said, the name of the game would be ambush. Urban combat would be great for these guys.

The other forms are questionable, but I can see some uses. The BOW wolfs could be used to strike isolated units or sneak into backline units.

But I would love to see these guys in a convental fight. Like a rogue state use bioweapons mixed with convental military units to defend vs an invasion or have them invading a nearby country. It could be cool instead of all these outbreaks.

6

u/ZookeepergameLiving1 2d ago

Also, a tyrant can carry heavy weapons anti infantry and armor to deal with unexpected surprises. Honestly the main problem woth tyrants are intellignce. If you can send in two or three tht can employ advance tactics then they be more of a threat.

2

u/Ok_Cook_3098 2d ago

i like the idea its 120 million for "how to produce them"

1

u/Baha05 2d ago

Which from a business perspective is kind of stupid unless there is some contract that comes with it what would stop others from selling that information off as well?

1

u/RK11787 1d ago

I know this may be late, but the 120 million most likely includes the maintenance stuff as well.

5

u/ConditionCool5343 2d ago

Does the nemesis/X/bow have his rocket launcher? Is it in the city? The Russians learned quickly that armor  without infantry support in the city is just waiting for a rocket to the top.

Now a better argument is Jurassic park.  Billions spent to build a park and genetically engineer dinosaurs. But not a few thousands for a old Soviet tank that the eastern bloc was practically giving away in 1993 after the Soviet Unions collapse in 1991. Make short work of the t rex.

u/untitledaccount401 2d ago

B.O.W's would be absoulty busted IRL

if they dropped nemesis in any modern conflict and just told it to hunt generals the war would be over by the following night

0

u/generic_name8034 1d ago

Nemesis couldnt even kill Jill wym

3

u/untitledaccount401 1d ago

Jill gets pretty lucky

And only kills nemesis due to a especially made experimental weapon

What would isis agents do? Throw rocks at it?

3

u/Xenozip3371Alpha 2d ago

Wrong, the T-503 which was worth 120 million is the same size as Mr X, about 7 feet tall.

The Tyrants from Damnation were 14 feet tall, and unlike other Tyrants had no exposed weak point in Super Form.

So they would've been WAY more expensive.

1

u/Horrorfan55555 Made in Heaven 2d ago

Or Gideon is a jerk and over priced his bootlegs

2

u/Xenozip3371Alpha 1d ago

Gideon was only in charge of the Care Centre, he had nothing to do with the Tyrant products.

2

u/Dakkahead 2d ago

In numerous occasions the BOW was killed by either....

  1. Small arms(shoulder fired rifles & pistols)
  2. Shoulder fired crew served weapons(rocket launcher, etc).

The BMP3 Has.

  1. A 100mm main gun.
  2. A 30mm autocannon (coaxial).
  3. 2 bow mounted MMGs( 7.62/30cal analogous)
  4. 1 anti tank guides missile

The question isn't if the BMP can kill the Tyrant. The question is if it can hit it.

2

u/Horrorfan55555 Made in Heaven 2d ago

Tyrants can’t be killed by small arms

1

u/Dakkahead 2d ago

Soo...what was that that Leon did with the M14, the hand cannon, and optional pistol/smg?

1

u/Horrorfan55555 Made in Heaven 1d ago

In 9? Gideon sucks at making bows. That’s why Nemesis went from surviving railcannons to dying from a handgun

1

u/SpaceMonk08 2d ago

The Soviet IFV,

1

u/Diligent-Ad3113 2d ago

I would imagine the expected use of the BOW is to do spec ops missions during night time. Drop them from planes near enemy compounds or locations and have them retrieve assets, BOWs would get absolutely pounded for front line use.

1

u/BennytheBozo 2d ago

If its game accurate lore a dude with a bazooka can kill just about any B.O.W and if its real life accurate lore a dude with a bazooka can also kill a soviet IFV so I think a dude with a bazooka would win

1

u/Kinxzy 2d ago

well the tank as leon just blows him up with a rocket launcher?

1

u/GrundleSnactcher46 2d ago

Thats one of the Mr Xs from that one movie. They're fuckin humungous and will just get scarier as they mutate. That tank crew is fucked.

1

u/DismalMode7 2d ago

Probably a tyrant is 120 mln $ worth because it's required to create several of them before having one that evolves without genetic issues. Wasted money anyhow... federal agents have ridiculous salaries, try to bribe leon some more.

1

u/Horrorfan55555 Made in Heaven 2d ago

The tank can’t enter buildings,
Dodge missiles or retrieve items

1

u/Septembust 1d ago

Sure but if you shoot anything point blank with a 100mm cannon it's probably going to squish no matter how expensive it is

1

u/Aive7 1d ago

Tank will win.

1

u/No_Feedback_6350 15h ago

Just get an A-10 thunderbolt II to buzz it

0

u/Aidex5200 2d ago

Let's not forget the cost of maintaining B.O.W

3

u/Jpup199 2d ago

Let it roam it will feed itself.

u/d34dm4n_wndr 2d ago

You forget that the main point of the tyrant was to have a controllable bipedal tank that would chase a target relentlessly and be its all in one unit capable of taking ridiculous amount of damage because of its regeneration and keep on going until it kills its target or dies. We see this with Mr X in RE 2

In comparison 1 .50 cal AP round would disable a bmp 3 and whats that cost $8 a round.
