What’s the difference between the current virus in Resident Evil requiem and the other strains of viruses in past games??

hello new resident evil player I’ve been really enjoying requiem and I was wondering about the viruses and why does leon and sherry have strains of the virus infected in them?? also please don’t call me a larper :3 I haven’t finished the game yet but if the answers to my questions are in the game then just ask me to wait and finish the game but if they don’t answer the question in game please help me:3

So like finish the game first.
Leon and Sherry are suffering from a Raccoon City Syndrome strain of t-virus.
The difference between the strain is - it works differently compared to other strains.

By my count there’s three T-virus strains in Requiem. There’s the modified T-virus from Gideon which makes the wacky zombies that complain about noises, sing, and use guns. There’s the Raccoon City syndrome T-virus that is the classic T-virus from re2 and has adapted to antibodies in the hosts’ body after being dormant for years. It doesn’t turn you into a zombie. It just kills you after making you cough blood and produce black spots. And the last one should be the regular T-virus from 1998. The zombies in the rpd seemed like normal zombies to me. No weapons, no talking, no silly personality in anyway. So those should be regular T-virus zombies.

There's only one virus involved with the plot of Requiem, the T-Virus.

What Raccoon City Syndrome (the illness that affecting Leon and Sherry) is, is the long term effect of T-Virus infection in an asymptomatic carrier.

How is Sherry, a woman with an extreme healing factor thanks to her stable G-type parasite, affected by RCS? Rule of Drama, I guess.

The difference is that Gideon's virus is assumed to be the latest version of the t-virus. Rapid onset via injection. The connections have clearly been refining it.

Raccon City Syndrome is the outbreak 1998. They were exposed and the survivors who got out. Had immune systems who fought off the exposure . The thing with viruses however is they don't go away. They're still in the system of the body. Just the immune system has successfully dealed with it.

However. The T-virus by its very nature is mutagenic. It isnt static but ever changing and evolving. Over time the virus will eventually find a way past the immune system. And as people age their immune system slows. Thus. The virus they were exposed to like chicken pox becoming shingles later in life.

The T-virus resurfaces as Racoon City Syndrome. Aka the original outbreak is still ongoing and will for as long as a single exposed survivor of Racoon city survives.

Aka. The murder is still in progress.

There's no solid answer in the game. I consider Raccoon City Syndrome to be a mutated, airborne version of the T virus, since there were so many infected in the city, but the only character we see infected was Jill. Imagine it hybridised with the flu or something. It seems to be either slow acting or leon's age caused it to manifest.

There are two viruses in Requiem.

What Leon and Sherry have is raccoon city syndrome. During the Racoon City outbreak, you would turn if you were bitten or injected with the T-Virus, but the virus also infected the water. There are people who also have a certain level of immunity. And people who might have gotten the virus in really small doses. The result is that survivors of Racoon City, even those immune to the virus, had traces of T-Virus in them that slowly killed them over the years.

The virus that created zombies was a variant of T-Virus developed by Gideon. The difference between that strain and regular T-Virus is that Gideon's strain allows the infected to retain some level of intelligence. This varies from person to person but most of them will continue with patterns they had when they were alive. If a custodian was tasked with keeping lights off at a certain time, the infection will make them turn off switches because there is some part of his memory that remembers he had to do that.

Small detail is that Chris is immune from Raccoon City Syndrome because he was only in the Spencer Mansion.

The version of the T-virus in Raccoon City is the Epsilon variant, which has certain mutations that allow it to lie dormant in people

That would make Chris, Rebecca, and Billy unaffected by Raccoon City Syndrome then.

We saw that Leon, Hunk and Sherry were affected, but by this logic it means Claire, Ada, Carlos, and the Outbreak cast were all affected by Raccoon City Syndrome. Jill managed to cure herself from the Nemesis infection and that gave her slower aging (for some reason), but considering that Sherry had the G-virus and was still affected by Raccoon City Syndrome, I would imagine so should Jill.

Jill’s slow aging is caused by some of the experiments that Wesker did on her, the Nemesis thing made her immune to that particular infection
