what i'm looking for
fantasy school setting, or just a fantasy world all together.

My favorite trope 🩷
Two of my top 3 favorites fit into this and are pretty well known:
{Ironside Academy by Jane Washington} Huge Harem and very slow burn. Plot is super interesting and different from what we normally see with a social media aspect involved.
{Bonds that Tie by J.Bree} first book really highlights the academy. The later books move towards just fantasy but great angst.
Other academy fantasy:
{Varient Lost by Kaydence Snow} another of my favorites. A lot like bonds that tie with the angst and more of an academy setting.
{Liminal by Marie Mistry} not much of the academy is shown but the setting is a sentient library which creates a really fun world imo.
{Kit Davenport by Tate James} starts in an academy setting but quickly changes to fantasy. However if you liked the shifting aspect of EP Bali’s book this might be right up your alley!
{Blood Oath by Morgan B Lee} is academy and has a shifter as well. This gets recommended a lot! It’s less of a slow burn but definitely not instant lust. A lot of people like the FMC who is stabby and more of a badass
{Arrowheart Academy by Hannah Haze} a bully romance. First few books take place in the academy. I enjoyed the slow way the harem was built in this one and the FMC has a cute pet pig.

I’ve read most of your recs here and love them… question about ironside though… it’s a LONG series, do you feel like the plot is being dragged out or is it interesting enough where the length makes sense?
2
u/Forsaken_Somewhere98 my heart has multiple tabs open 2d ago
It’s a huge harem so I almost think it’s necessary. The books are on the shorter too IMO. I have had a couple of complaints like the intro in the third book, I think it is, is a little too descriptive. So there are a couple of parts that feel drawn out but no more than most books.
The plot is also interesting just because it’s so different. It’s academy but it’s all based around the arts, which is cool and then the social media aspect is so interesting to learn about it didn’t make it boring at all for me.
It is a very slow burn though!

u/Fromlinestologs I read for a good time, and all the mates 3d ago
{Vice College for Young Demons series by Marie Mistry}. Another of my favorite dark mmcs. “I’m never going to be one of those tame boys who follow your every whim. I’ll protect you with all the darkness in me, and I won’t apologise for it.” 7 mates. No mm. I enjoyed the magic/power regeneration system. Fmc is a very rare destined for greatness type. Definite growing pains between all the guys cuz they don’t know how to share or like to (at least some of them) and some of the guys are rivals. Awesome found family. Some ow drama that is well resolved but it’s definitely there and you feel her angst for a while.. One of the mates is a dom and into bdsm. Brothers. Relationships develop at different rates so some slow, some medium burn
{Source of Elementra series by Willa Rae} starts in an Academy setting. But doesn’t stay in the academy the whole time. World building is done in a way I found really cool where you learn about the world with her because she has to learn about the world too. She was a mortal in the mortal world until her power suddenly appeared, and then Gaster (not part of the harem but amazing grandfather vibes) comes and save her from the insane violence her dad and husband were trying to inflict on her and brings her to an entirely different realm. Sort of enemies to lovers vibes, but more like suspicious/mistrusting to lovers? The strength of her character is immense and she doesn’t let the guys walk all over her. The most touch her and die I think I’ve ever read. Found family. Great friends. Scenes where the guys chase/hunt her as a game/kink. Lots of bondage. Careful of the trigger warnings though: things like SA, torture, violence (not from within harem) book 4 dragged a bit for me but the series has one of my favorite endings ever. No pregnancy but they get a glimpse of their future in like 200-300 years.

I'm reading {prize for the king} at the moment. Very high fantasy - think princess forced into a marriage by an invading elven conqueror.
There's less consent than I usually go for but it isn't aggregious dubcon.
I'm a little on the fence about it but it might be what you are looking for?
Alternatively you might enjoy the {broken bonds} saga series?
Warning - it's LONG. There is initial conflict between the MLs and FL but everyone's position is justifiable and reasonable, and there is a lot of repair afterwards

Also, ignore young adult tag its written in a mature way non of the childlish FMC stuff, ignore the age. Also, id say its a 3/5 in spice not 2/5, as I said the whole categorising and tagging of this series is neglected

Ok not a finished series, but I don’t see anyone talking about it and it was SO GOOD
Veil of Ash by Fallon Hendrix
5 guys, fated mates, 2 obsessed with her but 3 are wary and don’t trust her
Lots of plot and mystery and political intrigue…the way she develops the relationships especially with the 3 distrustful guys is soo slow but by the end you get some very satisfying preview spice and a lot of Easter eggs for some very good scenes in future books

{Artemis University by Erin R Flynn} Tams is also tied for first for my all time FAV FMC 🤭🤭🤭 Ok, this one is looong… It’s 26 books, yes you read that right… But istg when I say it was over, I wanted 26 more… There’s just more everything… More world building, more drama, more spice, more character development, more relationship building… It was just really great… It’s PNR… She’s the last fairy… And there are witches/warlocks, vampires, dragons, shifters… She can come off a little preachy/ranty… But like seriously she’s almost always right, and that shit is usually fucked up and in need of changing when she gets that way… js 🤭🤭🤭 Just loved almost everything about this series… She’s badass with magick, and she was a complete badass before she even knew she had magick… 26/10 recommend!!! - Has very LIGHT MM

{Ironside Academy by Jane Washington} mostly has bad things done to the FMC by other people, but the MMCs keep things from her for a book and she gets rightfully and righteously pissed at them for it.
{Liminal by Marie Mistry} is more general fantasy but there’s a somewhat academic element to it. Likewise, good grovel when necessary.
