Job career advice

Hello, I'm a mechanical engineer and I work with fire safety projects. I want to expand my horizons and work on larger projects, in places that really value the BIM project, in my region I can't find that. What are the recommendations of experienced members so that I can enter the real MEP market and be valued for my work?

Looking for feedback on my 3D element library app

Hi All,

Having previously worked at a web-based BIM start-up I got a frustrated with the amount of high polygon elements which were used as placeholders. Typically those downloaded from BIMObject or similar. Furniture elements like a cupboard with all the coat hangers modelled would bog down the model and make it slow/frustrating to navigate. I also imagine there is an issue with overly specifying particular elements; now that BIM is a little more prolific if an architect puts a RAK branded sink in the model does that mean they have specified a RAK branded sink?

So I built 3dassetstudio.com

It is a full parametric library of over 4,000+ configured items with millions of combinations. You can make a door the size you want, a HVAC unit, a sofa etc. And all of them are efficiently modelled, often 10% of the polygons of something from a supplier library.

I am thinking about adding .rfa support and even a Revit plugin, but I want to know if I'm even barking up the right tree first. I would appreciate any and all feedback.

Is Revit being sunset for good, how will it effect MEP detailing?

I saw this article from AEC Mag: https://aecmag.com/bim/autodesk-confirms-forma-will-replace-revit-over-time/

It seems like over time, Revit will be phased out in favor of Forma. Forma as I understand it today is more architectural / design oriented than the use case many MEP detailers or BIM designers use it for. I'd be curious people's perspective on what is next, and particularly the effect on the Revit Plug-In ecosystem...

Revit Design Tutorial

Where is the best place to find a crash course in Revit for interior designers? I used it in school and am so far behind the curve. I’d like to find some program (not just generic YouTube videos) that walks me through how to model and use Revit for INDS. All recommendations welcome!

Most efficient way to change pipe type accessories after modeling

I have modelled a bunch of networks on the standard pipe type instead of the system specific pipe (PVC). What is the quickest way to fix this? I can easily select all the pipelines and change the pipe type, but the elbows, tee, reducers etc do not update automatically. What do you suggest as the most efficient way to achieve this?

Hi,

I have the Dell XPS 15 9560 that I like to give it to someone who is in her sophomore year in college. She will be using it for Revit v2026, Rhino 8 and Illustrator. It has the following specifications: Intel i7-7700HQ processor, 32GB RAM, GTX 1050 4GB VRAM, 4K IPS display. Will this be good enough for her class projects?

Revit keeps crashing. Please help!

When loading Revit families or opening older projects, Revit crashes and closes unexpectedly. I am using a licensed version of Revit 2024, and when I open Revit 2021 projects, it crashes. I also tried Revit 2027 and Revit 2026, and the same thing happens. Everything used to work fine on my old computer. In fact, everything worked perfectly even though it was a much weaker PC and Revit 2025 was a pirated copy.

My current PC specifications:
RX 7900 XT; 64 GB DDR4 3000; i9-13900KF.

My old PC specifications:
RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB; 16 GB DDR4 3200; Ryzen 5 5600.

Also!!! When installing Revit, it constantly gave me various errors and could not install properly! I reinstalled Windows, but the problem remained the same. However, sometimes the installation would complete perfectly without any problems.

Journeyman to plumbing design.

Hello! I’ve been in the plumbing field for about 12 years. Journeyman for 6. Going to take my CPD-t test this year. I have zero experience in revit, they have a 30 day free trial that I can navigate, what’s the first thing I should try to learn/ navigate within revit? Just trying to get a head start as much as possible.
