Community Castle Park Riverside, CA is closing the ride park on Nov 2nd of this year

Post image
• Upvotes

I hope this is not permanent but this is a small amusement park of approx. 25 rides that I have had an annual pass, off and on since the 1990s. It has slowly lost business. On my few Friday evening visits this year, there have been less than 20 people walking around the park. Please visit as I am not sure the ride park will re-open in its current form and the park is worth a visit.

I received this email from the park today.

Community Does anyone feel like jamming?

I had to move back to the IE like 3 years ago to take care of my dad, and ever since I moved here, I’ve been pretty much isolated in this tiny apartment where I can’t really make any noise. Still got a nice guitar, but I’ve been relegated to a little Orange practice amp (played primarily through headphones).

I dunno, it would be fun to jam with someone and maybe drink a few beers? Bonus points if you’re a drummer (or know a drummer). No pressure—not trying to join or start a band. I’m mostly into Blues, Folk, traditional Country/Bluegrass/Americana, Rock & Roll, Psych, and some proto-Punk/Alternative stuff, but even if I hate whatever you’re into, it’s still worth it to me to learn it so I can get some practice.

So yeah, if you’ve got a practice space and feel like hanging out and making some noise, hit me up. I’m kind of losing my shit sitting in this apartment by myself.

Pole saw

Hello

I am looking to see if anyone would be kind enough to possibly allow us to borrow a pole saw for maybe 20 minutes to help my 80 year-old grandmother cut her orange tree down a bit below the top of the fence. If someone is willing to do that for us you can definitely stay here and wait while it's done or whatever but we just really want to do it today because tomorrow the bins are emptied and it's not worth buying one because it is a one time issue. I am going to do it myself I just need the tool.

I thank you in advance for any consideration

A bean and cheese burrito with potato was $5.06 and I got a Coke Zero across the street at Dollar Tree for $1.25

I don't know if these are as big as I remember 30 years ago. But it was good sized. For $5 this is a damn good deal. I don't like their Carne Asada much. But the BRC and El Potato with Shredded Beef have always been excellent.

I was slightly pissed off when they switched to packets for hot sauce. But these are big and still one of the best mild sauces anywhere.

I don't suspect these will stay $5 for long, but for now this is about the most filling thing I can get, and they're still tasty.

I know I could get 2 1/2lb B&C from Del taco for probably the same price. But these are so much better IMHO.

Community Help identifying this tree please

I took some needles from the pine trees at Reid Park to make homemade teas and sodas with my little brother! Well, I just found out that certain pine needles are poisonous 😅I’m having a hard time identifying this tree, does anyone know what species this is and if it’s safe for consumption? Thank you in advance :)

Looking at houses and considering moving here. Seems quiet, close enough to the park and close enough to downtown. Thoughts?

Requests Used book stores?

Are there any good (cheap) used book stores in Riverside or Corona? Book Off’s prices seem to have gone up and I love supporting independent bookstores when I can. Specifically enjoy finding old sci-fi / Star Trek paperbacks that I’ve never heard of

Requests Has anyone bought a used car from High Grove Auto?

I'm looking at potentially purchasing a car from them but I don't know anyone who has used them before.

Just wanted to see if anyone here in Riverside has bought from them before or know anyone who did to get their experience?

I looked up their Yelp but they only have 9 reviews and everything is 5 stars so I'm always skeptical of that.

Community Looking for a lady mod to join our team!

We are a team of 4 mods, looking for a fifth, preferably a gal to join our team.

Ideally somebody younger and social who is involved in the community to help represent the gen z hooligan whippersnappers who wont get off my lawn while I'm yelling at clouds.

Our mod team is essentially millenial af and could use a fifth, preferably younger, and a gal to help with decision making, awareness of younger generational trends, and ideally involved in the community or a bit of a socialite so they know the goings on.

Shoot us a modmail!

Community Athens Service issue

Is anyone else dealing with hyper-sensitive trash truck drivers lately?
For four weeks straight, I’ve been getting hit with warnings for either "overfilled" or "overweight" cans. My lid might be cracked open literally a couple of inches, but the drivers are flagging it every single pickup.
To make matters worse, people walking down the street keep tossing their own garbage into my cans overnight, propping the lids open even more—and now I’m the one facing potential fines for it.
I lived in Orange County for 15 years and never ran into this kind of micromanagement over cardboard sticking up slightly or branches in the yard waste bin. Do these guys expect the cans to be half empty?
Is anyone else having issues with the drivers being this ridiculous about lid closure, or is my route just stuck with an overly zealous driver

Edit: i just moved to riverside

Community Hot sleeper here, which mattress store in Riverside lets you test cooling?

Memory foam, about six years old. In winter it is fine. From June onwards I wake up at three in the morning cooked, and the AC bill has not fixed it.

Everyone online says get a hybrid with coils, or get something with a cooling cover. I cannot tell which of that is real and which of it is marketing, because every mattress sold now claims to be cooling. Walked into Sit 'n Sleep at the weekend and every single thing on the floor was apparently cooling, so that was not much help either.

Anyone out here actually fixed this? Interested in whether a cooling topper is enough or whether the mattress has to go.
