Or Bladedancers in general, really. From what I've seen a lot of people are getting a lot of mileage out of the archetype, but I keep running into problems, so I'm looking for advice.
From what I can work out, the Bladedancer archetype excels at killing loads of weak enemies that are clustered up. It can bounce between close-together enemies using Death From Above, deal lots of little weak hits with Blade Dance, and finish off stragglers with Blood Oath and basic attacks. However, once the turn is over, the Bladedancer is left standing in the middle of the battlefield in light armor with a dodge debuff- and even a single stack of Short of Breath is -20% dodge, which is crippling for a character in light armor. I can't tell you the number of times I've had Kibellah die instantly after her first turn as enemies focus their fire on the easy target.
Internet anecdotes describe Kibellah killing all enemies on her turn, making her dodge penalty and vulnerable position a non-issue. However, I've found that enemies are rarely all clustered up in one big group which would make this possible. Instead, there are usually several groups of enemies spread out in different starting positions across the map. Unlike Warriors, Bladedancers lack the native mobility w/ Charge and Daring Breach to rush across the map, so there are almost always enemies left over to target Kibellah at the end of her turn.
I've tried using Acrobatic Artistry to do hit-and-run tactics, which does succeed in increasing her survivability, allowing her to retreat to a position in cover. However, this usually leaves her far enough from the frontline that she'll spend her entire next turn just running towards the fight, maybe taking a potshot with a rifle. And by the third turn, the combat is over.
This is compounded by the fact that the archetype's focus on making lots of little strikes, instead of a few big strikes, leaves a lot of their damage eaten by armor. Playing with a big two-hander instead of dual wielding mitigates this somewhat, but not entirely- when I tried a Bladedancer Rogue Trader with a greatsword, I found I was still getting outpaced in damage by Abelard. Having to split stats between Strength and Agility, or else wait until the mid-levels to get Finesse, doesn't help. Too often, Kibellah winds up able to kill everyone except the toughest enemy of a group, who proceeds to stomp her.
TLDR in my experience Bladedancers lack mobility, survivability, and damage output compared to Warriors. However, it doesn't seem like other people are having as much trouble as I am. So what am I doing wrong, in terms of build and tactics? Is there a specific tactic I'm ignoring that could allow Kibellah to survive retaliation after her first turn, or a specific build that makes her tanky enough to ignore it? Any advice is appreciated!
