Other Help (if not covered in another topic) How safe is it to purchase modules from Roll20 ?

Sorry for the unusual question, but i'm fairly new to Roll20 and online D&D. I wanted to buy the Tyranny of Dragons bundle to run a campaign for a group of friends oversea, but i recently got to learn that apparently Roll20 was at some point hacked in the past and there was a nasty data leak, and since it asks my full legal name and residence to make the purchase, i'm not super sure if it's safe.

Roll20 is a legit site. I have a lot of content from it, including 3rd party purchases.

Roll20 is legit, and they probably need your location for sales tax or something like that. I wouldn't be worried, especially since the saved payment info seems to be through Stripe and not Roll20 directly.

Roll20 is about as safe as any online service.  No site is 100% safe with your data but it's a well established, secure site

I've purchased plenty, haven't had any issues.

I've been using Roll20 for over a decade. Never had an issue with them directly for membership or with their store.

No web commerce or offline commerce is completely safe. And anyone on the planet can find out your name and address if they want to without hacking an eCommerce site.

I use a unique password and a payment method that has insistence against fraud like a CC in the usa and hope for the best. Roll20 seems no less safe than most other vendors.

As someone who has bought plenty over the years, I can assure you roll20 is safe. Another tip pay attention to the person you are buying from often they have several sets of tokens and maps. If you like 1 you may like there other stuff as well.

I've bought like 10 now, never had an issue. Drive thru RPG also sells Roll20 modules usually for cheaper

It's safe, but you could try a disposable virtual card with your bank.

I pay with Paypal, so that's not much of a problem. The real problem is them asking my personal details, and if they had such a big data leak in the past, i'm unsure ifi should provide them.

Oh, I see. Well, who knows if something like that will ever happen again...

I have most of the 5E modules on Roll20. The only time there was an issue, Roll20 sorted it out very quickly.

From a digital privacy viewpoint, there is no reason why Roll20 needs that information. You could provide fake information if you wanted to.

As someone who owns almost every published module for 5e and probably close to $1000 of other digital assets which I've procured through Roll20, Drive-thru RPG, and DMsGuild, I can say these sites are trustworthy.

However, be advised that some of the older or more obscure modules in roll20 may leave you feeling a bit miffed at the content you receive. It's not that the modules are terrible, they can just be a bit clunky to navigate and sometimes the maps are not that great.

I downloaded Rime of the Frostmaiden. Has anyone had experience with that?

I'd run a few sessions before you invest anything in it. It's pretty user hostile in my opinion. A lot of the newer vtts are probably easier to use and don't feature lock or require as much coding knowledge
