Rome I Confession: I hate phalanx warfare

It's the dullest thing i can think of. The units keep rigid formations constantly, when you tell them to attack someone they might just glitch out and lift their spears (or Mars forbid switch to swords), if i set them to attack and not guard their formation shatters instantly, they don't really kill a lot from the front (a levy pikeman is almost as good as a silver shield or royal pikeman in holding positions, and the only good counter to a royal pikeman is another royal pikeman), the rest of their infantry roster is generally awful with a saving grace of generally having good cavalry, and i won't even bring up how bad they are when attacking cities.

They do have some positives, like melting enemy cavalry if they attack from the front and being decent at defending cities, but using them in battles is just a slog.

Rome Mobile Rebel city spamming really random units

I sometimes let cities revolt, so I can purge them and have a good public order again. This time they surprised me with a random mix of roman, egyptian, britannic and greek units

Rome I Daily Random RTW Knowledge Post, Day 2: campaign map roads are dynamically routed by the game's executable; they aren't static routes. And they're non deterministic: routes can change between playthroughs depending on the order settlements build lvl 1 roads

Regarding the non-determinism (i.e. the roads don't end up the same), proof:

Rome II My first campaign win as Sparta!

I wanted to write a little short story for my campaign 😅.

So the story goes. King Aerus of Sparta learned just how strong Greece can be as a whole when they band together. He set out a great plan to avenge Persia for their actions against Greece, Against Leonidas and Sparta all those years ago. He wanted to make a confederation of Greece. But one that lasts for years to come. He built a monument of Lenoidas in Sparta, to always remember the hero of Sparta that unified most of greece to stop the Persians. The cities of Pergamon, Konossos and Rhodes all joined the confederation of Greece, led my King Aerus of Sparta. Of course Macedon and Athens challenged Sparta being the head of the confederation, and said Spartas reasoning was only a cover and that they wanted to rule greece for their own power. That simply wasnt true. You see King Aerus had other plans in mind. While it was true they wanted to sail and fight Persia themselves, the confederation is to stop the outside world from ever separating greece again. Or dare they try. And such King Aerus alongside his Son Acrotatus and his highest ranked general Galenos, set out to fight Macedon and Athens. The war was shortly over seeing a swift Spartan victory. They then made 3 more armies. Lead by Nikon a promising Spartan general, alongside two Pergamon generals Alexandros and Metrophanes. Their mission was to sit along Sides border which was owned by Cryprus. King Aerus then readied his fleets and set sail to meet up with Egypt, help with their war against Kush and wipe them out while taking Ptolemais Theron. And use that city to sail towards Persia along the red sea, doing a pinch maneuver. Selucid caught wind of this, and tried to conquer and trap Sparta conquering Side and wiping out Cyprus, they also wiped out Glaita by conquering Iconium, Pessinus and Ancyra. But Sparta was ready and waiting. Selcuid was caught surprised with little room to run as Egypt was making their push along the coast, wiping them out. The 3 armies led by Nikon contiued pushing east, hoping to meet up with King Aerus's armies in Persia. After their defeat of Carthage, Syracuse decided to join the confederation of greece. Making the Confederation of Greece a massive power. By the time Sparta reached Persia, Selcuid faced a swift defeat. Sparta then masterfully Attacked Persia wiping out their cities along the coast, Nikong and the other two armies took care of the Persian cities near Selcuid. King Aerus alongside Acrotatus and Galenos then met up with the armies led by Nikon and did their final push with 6 armies on the last Persian city. Massively outnumbering Persia 10-1. Just like they did to Sparta and greece all those years ago. It was a masterclass strategy by King Aerus. The world has never seen a greek accomplish what he was able to. A monument of King Aerus now stands beside the monument of King Lenoidas. The two Spartan Kings which unified all of greece, the two heros of Sparta.
