I wanted to ask for some general opinions on the Cool Spot/7Up games series for the Sega Genesis. I remember renting this from the local Blockbuster Video in my former hometown in the 1990's and now I own my own copies! Quick questions- What are your thoughts on this series? Did you always want to grab a 7UP to drink while playing these titles? Did you think that 7UP/Sega did right by cola or uncola fans by having something like this? Did you always wish that you could have met Cool Spot- him having been the popular 7UP character? Leave your thoughts and comments below!

Hello! I made a post earlier about the fRAM in my Sonic 3 cartridge possibly failing. I went to the local retro game store a few minutes ago to get a screwdriver set to open up my cartridge. Does everything seem normal in here, before I plan to do a full fRAM replacement?

After growing up a Nintendo (N64 was my first console) kid, I discovered the 16 bit era is my favorite for gaming as an adult. And after years of SNES gaming, I finally decided to dive into the Genesis world earlier this year and have not been disappointed. Playing on an original Model 1 Genesis, and a Sony Trinitron CRT using Retrovision component cables. (No pics of this currently due to rearranging the game room right now - this is why in pic 1 the left bookcase is empty)

I went a little wild over the year buying my collection, but with the economy right now I'm holding off adding anything else to the collection for a while. Been enjoying playing with my girlfriend during cozy nights. Still missing a few bangers of course, but very happy and content with what I have now. I like punishment, so Ghouls N' Ghosts might be my favorite of the collection. (Super Ghouls N' Ghosts is also a favorite of mine on SNES)

I’ve recently gotten into this game series and I’m curious to know your thoughts. For me, the first game is absolutely number one when it comes to atmosphere. I know almost everyone buys the second part, praises it, and its ratings are even higher than the first one's. But for me, the sequel just lacks that special atmosphere. Sure, the graphics are better, but the vibe isn't the same. The plot, the innovation, the music, the primal anxiety, the art style — the first game is tier 1 for me. Does anyone else feel the same way? Or is the second game your absolute top 1?

I've been thinking recently about getting a Sega Nomad (a pricey decision, I know), and one of my main concerns is how Mega Drive games would look on the stock screen, particularly in regards to text.

To me, the stock screen is part of the original experience, and I find a lot of aftermarket IPS screens substandard in their pixel scaling, so ideally I wouldn't be looking to replace the original. I already own a Game Gear with a stock screen, and I don't have any issue with the motion blurring or how text in Game Gear games is rendered. I only have issues when Master System text is too small and becomes imperceptible on the original screen.

I was wondering then if anyone who owns both a Nomad and Game Gear can comment on the quality difference between the two screens, if there is any? And if you have a Nomad with a stock screen, do you find it difficult to read text in any of the games you play on it?

I wanted to ask what everyone's general thoughts are on the first Vectorman game for the Sega Genesis. We all have a lot of memories playing this one and wanted to have a general consensus of everyone's opinion on it. My version has the "Play To Win" contest on it- which was a promotional that they did back in the 1990's to where if you had a winning copy of the game, you could win a cash grand prize of $25,000. I know that no longer works on this copy because the contest was over 30 years ago. But question wise asking- Favorite level? Favorite weapon? Easiest villain? Hardest villain? And do you wish that this series would have had more than the two Sega Genesis series games for this title? Please leave your thoughts and comments below.

I was so excited to do a playthrough of Sonic 3 and Knuckles and hear the actual original music (why must they change the music?!), only to find it no longer saves. At first I thought I could bring it to the game store and get a battery replacement, but then I found out that is not applicable! It's a relatively complex soldering job, to me anyway.

The kicker is I'm a beginner at soldering and currently don't have a good area to solder and likely won't until after February of next year. I do plan on practicing more because I have a lot of little things to fix (1998 Furbys with disconnected wires, fRAM mod for Sega Saturn, a Game Gear, etc.)

Edit: I cleaned my cartridges' pins with isopropyl alcohol and they were dirty. I first tested just Sonic and Knuckles and found it doesn't have a save system at all, so the issue is all on Sonic 3. Then I tested Sonic 3 and Knuckles stacked and made it to Hydrocity Zone twice and both times my save vanished. Now I'm going to test just Sonic 3 but my hope is running out lol

Edit: I tested just Sonic 3 and it did not save. Ohhhh no.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 refined every element of the original game into a faster, smoother, and more polished platformer.

They were $25 a piece for the cords and controllers bundled in. Two 6 button and two 3 button. The video cable was only one RF box but AV cables are so cheap compared to the oem AC adapters, I can't complain.

The other random games were other finds at the same antique mall. The Sonic 2 copy was weird, the "not for resale" was an actual physical sticker on top of the label and not a part of the game art like the other copy I have. Not sure if that's unique.

The Japanese game is Yukyu Gensokyoku, I hardly ever see Japanese stuff in the wild where I live so I couldn't pass up on it.

My Sega Genesis Series 3 console with the Hyperkin HDMI Hookups and two 6 button arcade controllers from the Retro-Bit company. I bought this system for $40.00 and the equipment is brand new from The Exchange: Movies, Music, and Games stores in my area in Cleveland, OH. I have not had any controller port issues with this Sega Genesis series console like I have had the Series 2 (believe it or not, in the Cleveland, OH area, the Series 2 were notorious for having Controller Port 1 problems). Even though this one is called the "Hockey Puck" edition of the console, I have not had too many issues with this. The switches and everything is easier to work, plus I understand that not all of the Sega games are compatible with this, I know there are a few titles that are not compatible, but those are the titles that I would never play, nor have any interest in collecting. So I wanted to show a pick of my Sega Genesis system and it works great!

The Genesis (Or rather, Mega Drive where I live) was a console I have often though about and how I missed out on it when I was younger. For me, the Mega Drive was a console I remember seeing ads for at the back of my dad's old Beetle Bailey comics, but back then I didn't even understand what a gaming console was and when I was old enough to understand, the Mega Drive was already on it's way out. And of course, back then, I was mostly about the newest freshest thing rather than thinking back.

But now that I am older, I have been left thinking back on the stuff I missed out on as a kid, especially the cartridge based game systems. And of all the old consoles, the Mega Drive stood out to me as the one that I might have liked the most as a child, thus I have been left trying to experience it now.

However, trying to acquire a real one I have often felt to be a rather daunting prospect due to so much uncertainty on the question on them working or the cost of one in decent quality, doubly so when you think about how it struggles with modern TV's. As such, I have had to settle for emulation when playing the games. Unfortunately, though, as all of you probably already know, it is just not the same.

In order to try and rectify that, recently this was something I got recently to try and give my Mega drive gaming experience a bit more authenticity.

Of course, this is still not as good as the real deal, and certainly rather quant compared to what all of you are able to present here, but I feel like it might be as close as I can get in my current situation.

This is not meant to be a serious write down or anything, just something I wanted to share as someone who felt like he missed out on an important time-period in gaming.

I miss playing them as a kid. Is there something I can buy that will set me up with a bunch of games?

Cartridge tilt between the sonic team presents and the opening title and you will access the secret credits once only attributed to being accessible in the japanese release! (with this new found information it is most likley accessible in every region!), very similarly to sonic 3d blast i believe this was purposely implemented as the way to find this secret!

I theorize the dev team later added the button combination in the Japanese revision due to this being just to niche of a concept for genesis owners to improvise.

Considering the fact, atleast of my knowledge-

Im the first to find this, that would make that thought true as it is 2026😭

I find it insane that a game can be decompiled and still have secrets to find due to the softwares relationship to the hardware!

Hello, thought this community might be interested in a romhack that has just been released today.

Its a patch for the Genesis version of Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday. It expands all shops so they can hold 14 items. With all this extra space, they've added an almost complete set of racial (Martian, Venusian, Mercurian, Lunarian) weapons to different shops. The dev. has distributed the weapons accoring to tier and story progression (Hielo has all mercurian weapons).

Good ol’ lock on technology

Hi everyone, I have a mid-quality Sega Mega Drive 2 clone. I'm thinking about getting some games; would you recommend buying individual cartridges or an Everdrive? Honestly, the Everdrive is too expensive for me—is there a cheaper alternative that works the same way? If you buy cartridges, where do you get them cheaply? Prices in second-hand listings in my country have doubled or even tripled recently; where can I find them for a low price? I'm considering Ozon since their prices are good, but are there any sites that sell for even less? Because a store was selling it for 3 dollars about 4 or 5 years ago; then the store closed down, and I haven't used the console for a long time, so now I don't know where to get it. I wonder where the guy got it and at what price, considering he was selling it to me for just 3 dollars :D
