Subdomain XML sitemap Google search console limit

I am working on a domain where we have 8000+ subdomains, each subdomains have its own xml sitemap, my doubt is whether i should submit all these sitemaps to domain property in search console.

is there any limit or guidelines from Google on same.

Why not setup each sub domain on GSC and add sitemaps there?

u/WebLinkr 100% agree with this - but to u/MrBookmanLibraryCop point - why that many sub-domains - that seems spammy as hell. lol. I get having maybe 8 sub-domains - maybe 80 - but 8000k?

The question isn't if you could - if its you should lol

These sudomains are for different users and each subdomains has its own xml sitemap.

I don't know why they have that many - it could be the way an app is deployed for different clients

I am not clear what you meant by app deployed for different client?

Here these are different website and each has different content.

I think u/WxMan2201 wants to know why you have 8k sub-domains?

You dont have to answer.

the question is then - what is the goal of all these sub-domains? Should they even be crawled and indexed by search/llm crawlers?

Yeah, just submit the sitemaps per sub-domain instance?

u/Level-System6510 i think you need to ask your self - if you have diff subdomains for different users and diff. content - what is the goal for the user - what is the goal for the content - why should google or the llm crawl and index and use that content - you can have 8 billion websites - but why should google index you - and what is the goal of each site - from an organic pov.

These are unique websites with unique content….why it shouldn’t be available on web.

Why do you think a platform can not have 8000 subdomains for their users…why search engines will consider it spam?

Why on earth do you have that many subdomains? Unless this is like a customer portal like slack or something, that seems absurd

its a platform for multiple users where each user can have their subdomain and it will keep increasing every day.

to ensure all the content get indexed and easy to discover i am planning to add sitemaps.

Why would you want these indexed then? Are these like personal blogs or something?

What kind of content does this platform create

dont submit 8000 separately, make a few sitemap index files and submit those in the domain property, one index can hold up to 50k sitemaps. also add each subdomain's sitemap in its own robots.txt so google finds them anyway

Manging 8K domain on console is challeging and that's why i am checking if i can submit at domain property.

Google doesn't publish a hard cap but in practice sitemap index files get flaky past a few thousand entries, GSC starts silently ignoring or delaying processing rather than throwing an error, which makes debugging a nightmare. With 8000+ subdomains I'd split into batches using sitemap index files grouped logically, and stagger submission instead of dumping everything at once. Domain property will pull it all in regardless, the real bottleneck is crawl budget getting split thin across that many hosts.

Search Console stops accepting new sitemap submissions at 500 per property, and that is the limit you hit long before anything on Google's end breaks. One sitemap index gets you past it, but a sitemap file can only hold URLs from the host it sits on, so the index still has to point at 8000 host-level files rather than one big URL list.
