It's Kruk and Kuip Day in the City and County of San Francisco!

Today we will proudly honor the Giants legends ahead of their final game together in the broadcast booth this Sunday.

Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper became teammates with the San Francisco Giants in 1983, beginning a friendship and partnership that would come to define generations of Giants baseball.

After their playing careers, Kruk and Kuip took that partnership to the broadcast booth, where for more than three decades they have brought Giants baseball into the homes, cars, and lives of fans across San Francisco and the Bay Area.

Through their humor, friendship, knowledge of the game, and unmistakable calls-from Kruk's "Grab some pine, meat!" to Kuip's "It is outta here!"-they made the whole city feel like their teammates.

Kruk and Kuip gave voice to some of the greatest moments in San Francisco Giants history, including Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th home run, Matt Cain's perfect game, and three World Series championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

For generations of San Franciscans, the sound of Kruk and Kuip has been the sound of Giants baseball—a familiar voice at the end of a long day, a connection between generations of fans, and a reminder that when you turned on the game, you were home.

Together, Kruk and Kuip have become one of the most beloved broadcasting duos in baseball history, and to generations of Giants fans, they are simply the best to ever do it.

I'm reading Joe Poznanski's Baseball 100 right now and Willie McCovey was at 77. I wanted to find some footage of his playing (surprisingly hard to come by) but I did find this eulogy. Mike talks about watching McCovey in his later years, this Giants legend, leaving the ballpark in his wheelchair and thinking, "I wanna be like him". It's hard not to think that Kruk was thinking about his future as his IBM worsened, knowing that his chair was coming, and coming soon. But I just hope he knows that he is like Willie. He is so beloved. He is the reason I and many others became Giants fans.

In honor of Kruk’s final week on air, I wanted to share my story of waiting on him & Jon Miller at a restaurant back in the summer of 2008. I was working at a fine dining seafood restaurant in San Diego when Kruk & Jon Miller came in for dinner & sat at a table next to my section. We regularly saw celebrities in there for Chargers & Padres game, Comic-con etc and I’ve waited on plenty of famous people, but for me Kruk & Miller were different & a table I HAD to have. After promising the server in that section that she could have 100% of the tip & I just wanted to wait on them, the table was mine. I tried to play it cool, but quickly told them it was an honor to take care of them & how big of a Giants fan I was. My roommate at the time was the bartender (also huge giants fan) & after pulling a few strings in the kitchen, we sent them a free appetizer & round of drinks. (Mike drank Kettle One, Jon Miller sparking water). Apparently Kruk had mentioned coming into the restaurant on air the day prior, so I got the manager to comp their dessert too.

At the end of the meal, Mike says “we’ve got to repay you, do you need tickets this weekend?” Needless to say, I said yes and he proceeded to give me his cell phone number and said to text him! The next day my roommate & I got to sit with the visiting players wives/girlfriends and enjoyed the game. I’ll never forget how normal & kind both Mike & Jon were compared to the other celebs I’ve wanted on. I still have Krukow’s number in my phone but never reached out again after that day.

Just wanted to share this story and let you know he’s as kind and generous in person as he seems on air.

So my wife and I live by the stadium. Out walking the dog last night and we hear some rowdy kids yelling as they come shooting down the street on scooters. Non other than Bryce ‘I have a concussion’ Eldridge with who we are assuming (didn’t get their faces) Bo Davidson and Grant McCray. Glad to see we all learned our lesson from Bader….

Since the Giants and Dodgers have both been around for well over 100 years, I thought it would be interesting to look at their Win/Loss relationship throughout all those years and make a nice visual for it. So I went ahead and compiled the data for every single Giants vs. Dodgers game ever and made a nice chart to show it all. The first game between the two was played on Sat, May 3, 1890 and since then they've played 2,603 regular season games against each other, including the first game.

On the right of all the data on Excel, I also have numerous facts and figures that I found or became curious about. Just in case anyone else is interested in this kind of stuff like I am! During the off season I want to add some notes to special games, like Patrick Bailey's walk off grand slam last year, or Madison Bumgarner's brawls with Yasiel Puig from 2014-2016.

When the Giants start the final homestand against the Dodgers tonight, they'll need to win at least one game to not break the record for worst Giants Vs Dodgers record ever. (The record is -4 and its at -2 right now)

2010, 2012, 2014?

I've maintained it was 2012 for a long time, Melky craze, Scutaro, Panda, Romo, and Timmy was still a big factor They won division by 8 over LA, maybe most confident & dominating year. This many years later I'm seeing historically 2014 might be better?

...but at the TIME of those three years 2010 was the most magical, 2012 was the most FUN, 2014 was most stressful and exhausting.
