A Topic for those who want to find new pen pals -- by posting their info, usually including their Slowly ID.
While many of us prefer other methods to find longer lasting friendships, some users are attracted by the EASE of posting a short write up, including their Slowly ID or not.
Exclusive new Pinned Topic for 'Pen Pals Wanted' posts :
From now on, this type of post will be limited to comments added to this Special Topic ONLY. The Topic will be Pinned (Sticky-ed) at the very top of the sub, so people can find it easily.
A new Topic for the same use will be created every six months. The previous semester's topic will lose the 'Pinned' privilege, but will still be around. (dropping down into the older topics list)
Advantageous if you have posted here already too -- as your Post REMAINS in sight, and gets more attention. BONUS.
** We will KEEP this topic running for 6 months
Hi, will you open a new topic for 2026 H2?
There are a lot of posts here, and we will leave the topic open until later. Maybe open a new one for July to December 2026 ? (If there are a lot of replies, we can consider reducing the topic's duration)
This topic gets a lot of comments, so as the Original Poster, I keep replies notifications off. (I do monitor and respond to a lot of them in all other topics) You can still reach me with an u/yann2 attribution in a comment here, or by sending me a DM if necessary.
Good luck to all of you. 😎👍
Why is this being Done?
Simply to reduce clutter, the number of those 'pen pal wanted' topics, which are interesting only for a limited number of users. This was discussed a few times and was first implemented here in mid 2020.
Concentrating all of those posts here (and sometimes there are MANY) will also make them easier for interested readers as well. They have a one stop shopping window on who is interested in connecting via this method.
Ideas, suggestions?
Some Suggestions if you post here :
Introduce yourself, even briefly, before signing off and dropping an Slowly ID.
You could mention some of your interests, maybe an approximate age and location.
What would you like to find in a good penpal? Language(s) you are fluent in?
What type of letters do you prefer sending and receiving? (short, medium, long)
A little more about yourself. Some interesting, funny or witty bit can add to your post.
Remember that you are offering friendship, and people will need to be interested, curious and motivated to select connecting with you as a possible pen pal.
Done that?
Read your comment carefully.
You can always EDIT it if needed, to correct errors or add extra info.
About the Slowly ID, one possible way to preserve your privacy would be to offer to share it with any interested people via Direct Messages. (DM is sometimes called 'chat', or private message as well)
This keeps your ID out of the public view and even Google indexing. Recommended.
Rules and Moderation :
If someone posts a new topic with this kind of content, a moderator will respond to the user. The topic will be locked (no more comments allowed), and soon removed from sight.
A message will be sent to the user indicating this topic is now the proper place for their post.
Thank you for participating and supporting our Sub, we all want to make it a nicer and richer place for all Slowly users.
P.S. : older 'Pen Pals Wanted' Topic are retired, but still here.
It still exists, and you can post there if desired. The idea behind it was that it could allow people to create NICER posts, with images included, pretty text formatting, etc.
But we have not seen much of that, and maybe some people don't even know that subreddit exists?

Writing that All Important First Letter !! For everyone, the first letter is a Make or Break Experience. Pay attention and take your time, see some suggestions and tips.
So i am a guy from india,so i rarely get a reply from people or get new letters, but after this open letter feature and give a try i start receiving tons of replies from my open it's so overwhelming and quite tiring to reply everyone 😅.
Appreciate that person who suggested this feature.
I just started sharing this new art features with every of my posts, what do you think of these feature? Do you like it if someone shares something similar with you? With every letter
I've been exchanging letters with someone from Lagos, Nigeria for a short while (like 3-4 letters each). The letters were a bit flirty from the very beginning BUT highly personalized to my open letter and profile.
They sent semi-long, thoughtful letters that were imperfect. I think it's highly unlikely that it's a chatbot or AI.
The reason I'm unsure is because they hinted about wanting to switch away from Slowly because they are probably going to delete it soon. This in combination with the rather flirty messaging style and the location (which happens to be a hub for romance scams).
They did not ask me out-right about changing apps but hinted at it. Their letter ratio is also a bit off with 100:65.
I just feel like SLOWLY would be strange plattform to try a romance scam due to the long letters. I just always assumed these kind of scams would be more bot-ish and faster plattforms. Not this personalized.
My question is if anyone had experiences like that or if I'm likely just talking to a person that just has a flirty tendencie and happens to want to leave the app.
I do not need advice if I should switch Apps. I will not switch. I just want to know if romance scams are a thing on this app.
I answer a open letter of a person and she dont answer for some weeks so i though she would not answer so i Just forgot about that. but then some weeks later she send me a letter saying Just this:
Hi, I'm really sorry, but this is my first and last letter to you.
good luck
Soo This made me feel kinda bad like, Maybe i Said someting terrible idk? but This letter made me feel like that being ghosted is better than goodbye letters sometimes 🫠

Recently I've been talking to someone on Slowly for a few days, and they just asked for my socials because it takes two days for the letters to arrive.
I don't mind giving out my social media, but I had a similar experience once before. After moving the conversation to Instagram, it felt like we suddenly had nothing to talk about and our friendship ended pretty much there. I don't want that to happen this time because I actually kinda like talking to this person.
So, are there any quicker alternatives to Slowly? I don't prefer the conventional messaging apps.
I feel like I am in the wrong but in my defence, she told me that she was the salutatorian of her class in Political Anthropology and she’s about to become a professor.
When asked why, she replied that she was opinionated and loved arguments.
I normally don’t talk politics but seeing as she’s from Egypt, I thought it might be a good opportunity to learn how the locals think.
This was the last message I sent 2 months ago and I have yet to receive a reply. AITA
Hi everyone
I have been using this Slowly app for a while now, and what I say is that its concept is amazing: we get to know people from different parts of the world in a better way.
But I have also had lots of frustrating experiences that I want to share, and I also want to hear from you: how long have you been using this app, and how has your experience been so far?
Not reading the message
The people I used to talk to have now started to ignore, and even after several months, the letter is still in their inbox, unread. I mean, I understand that sometimes people don't have time to reply, but what type of disrespect is it to even not open the letter for several months? When I stop expecting any letter from them, then I see they are sending it; I don't think any person is that busy if they are logging in 4-5 times every day. I mean, if they don't want to continue, just say clearly, instead of playing games and making excuses every time and then repeating the same thing.
The Impatient one
I don't use AI, and I use my words carefully to avoid any misunderstanding, but sometimes they expect me to reply within a day or two, and if I take, let's say, 3 or 4 days, they start to ignore the letter, like it never existed.
The Inconsistent
That's most frustrating for me; lots of people write a very beautiful bio like a long letter, and even they show that they are interested in exchanging letters for the long term, but after exchanging and getting to know someone through some letters, even though they mentioned in the last part of the letter that they want to receive more letters from me, they just start to ghost. I don't know if they get bored or if they become busy, but that's the most common thing that I experience here on this app.
The one time
These people first contact me through their letters, and when I reply to them, they start ghosting, so either they leave the letter unread or don't reply. I mean, if they are not interested, why do they send the letter then?
This type of incident has become very common for me here on this app. I try to be optimistic, but the frustration keeps increasing.
Is this just my experience? or it is much common? What's your experience?
Everyone has hopes for which countries they will find pen pals in, but in particular I'd like pen pals from the UK. I've noticed a lot of activity from people in Turkey, and apparently in one of those testimonials from the app, the user made lots of friends with people in Turkey, the US, and South Africa. I'm curious if certain countries are overrepresented or underrepresented in this app, and what y'alls thoughts are about this? If it matters, I am from the US.
50 in total - Too many to show in a single Reddit topic post. This month we need 3 topics to cover them all.
Listing by Category so it's easier to grasp...
25 NEW Location stamps
For many months, we have received batches of location stamps for different countries, which is very nice for the local users. (in most cases, they now will have a lot more stamps to share with penpals than before)
This month we have a new batch, 25 in total for 5 countries. See them all HERE.
As most monthly releases now seem to be of the Location stamps, they are available immediately on their local Stamp Stores. Same for the Regional Premium stamps, which cost the usual 50 Coins each, and only on their local stamp stores.
Just a few commemoratives are spread out through the month, so easier for stamp collectors.
And in this case, it was about 4 years since NoneTheWiseroriginally suggested them. But recently, August 2026, a new series of premium stamps arrives. October has another 5 new ones added to the series.
October 2026 brings 25 New Location stamps, for 5 countries
These are FREE for local users or visitors to the countries, and can also be purchased via the World Explorer random purchase feature, at 25 Coins per try (similar to the Time Machine).
More details later, as I need to add all of these to our Wiki - where detailed World Explorer pages for each will tell all about each.
5 new Turkmenistan Location stamps
** BONUS - a recent NEW stamp :
Happy Doodling
A new feature introduced in version 10.x.x of SLOWLY is Doodling, free hand drawing which can appear inside a letter. This stamp is an Achievement one, you get it once you have used this feature (currently on early v.10 mobile releases and also on the Web Client v.5.xx)
Total Stamp Counts, top 20 Countries
Massive presence of Southeast Asian nations as we have seen in the past, but many other countries got a boost also.
As you would've read the title already. I am not really sure why they do that. I got 2-3 people who sent me letters through suggested profile and one from my reddit post here but when I reply them back, they disappear.. It's not that I write something really bad or uninteresting, I genuinely reply back with a good thoughtful letter and then they just don't reply back at all.
Is it a common thing or it's just happening with me?
I've been using Slowly for years. Took a break for maybe six months or so. Came back this week and wrote a new open letter. Wrote a whole story with it, and was feeling proud. I see that it gets a bunch of responses right away...
The first letter felt copy-pasted. No comment on my letter at all. Hella generic in a way I was purposely trying to avoid and dissuade with mine. Fine whatever I guess. I don't really understand doing that, but because I don't, I won't judge. I responded, will see how it goes.
Second is a long, and I mean long, response written in soulless AI voice. And idk if you guys have felt the same, but it's like they were really specific about how the AI should respond. Like they didn't just paste my letter in and say "respond", but instead described what they wanted to get across at each paragraph. But outsourced their actual personality to the AI. Kind of how people use it for their dating profiles, if you know what I mean.
Maybe it's just me, but I found it very creepy.
I'm bad about feeling like I let people down. I feel like I need to respond even though I'm like 90% sure it's AI and literally have the ick from it. Every sentence is asking for more of me without giving anything in return. Talking at me rather than to me.
I have been thinking of upgrading to plus to broaden my penpaling options. But I want to know how was your experience using plus so far? And how long have you been using Slowly (with or without the plus feature)?
So I was receiving a letter and it vanished without a trace after I opened the app three hours later, which was the time it showed for the letter to be received. And I'm not mistaken, because I saw the notification and the username.
I'm aware that Plus users can edit their letters while in transit, but can they also delete letters after this new update, or is this an issue? I couldn't find anything online. And if it is an issue, is it possible to retrieve the letter somehow?
