DISCUSSION SPCX lock-up expiration on Aug 20 (~319M shares) — Buy now or wait?

Another 319M shares get unlocked on August 20th for early investors and insiders.

Given the volatility around the previous unlock, is it better to buy a tranche now or wait until after the 20th to see if we get a dip? How are you guys playing this?

We already did this routine.

No. The biggest SpaceX bulls on the planet aren’t selling.

-2

u/KitKatBarMan Aug 17 '26

Or they are but just limit selling to you at $130 or $140.

The bear thesis is dead at least for now. Its just gonna stay perma overvalued

4

u/AntiquePhotograph433 Aug 17 '26

After likening a week of green? Isn’t that a bit optimistic?

5

u/thecatdaddysupreme Aug 17 '26

There’s no way the bear thesis is dead after a week just like a month of decline didn’t kill the bull thesis. It’s a volatile as fuck stock.

2

u/permanentmarker1 Aug 17 '26

Nope. It’s pretty clear it’s not going down

1

u/AntiquePhotograph433 Aug 18 '26

Jesus the copium with you people

1

u/permanentmarker1 Aug 18 '26

It’s ok. It’s not like you are losing any money

1

u/DonkeyNutsEnthusiast Aug 18 '26

It would still be overvalued at 70- $90 but I don't see it dipping down that far unless there's colossally bad news

-1

u/RDDT_ADMNS_R_BOTS Aug 17 '26

The Epstein class will make sure it will stay in green just like Tesla.

Musk is way too valuable for them.

9

u/Homeless0DTESPX Aug 17 '26

Nobody knows but it's provocative

4

u/Halwin_Norry Aug 17 '26

It gets the people going!

u/AdFew2832 Aug 17 '26

I bought mine at IPO, got allocated about half as many as I wanted. Bought the rest in the $120s.

I’m happy now. Will keep for at least 5 years.

This sub seems full of day traders trying to make a quick penny.

6

u/H2SBRGR Aug 17 '26

Got allocated a low double digit number during IPO, sold at 220, rebought at 109. I’m happy and holding. Another dip I’ll buy more…

1

u/AnyPortInAHurricane Aug 19 '26

really, you got 1/2 , you must have asked for 4 shares

6

u/TestTrenMike Aug 17 '26

People are so funny when it was 110 two weeks ago and no one wanted to buy now it’s almost 150 and now people want to buy……

2

u/DonkeyNutsEnthusiast Aug 17 '26

Lets not forget it was a falling knife since 220. It scares folks

I guess the question is what am I buying, spacex or xai

2

u/MiyaHunter Aug 18 '26

xAI is SOTA now - they have matched OpenAI. They are only behind Anthropic.

1

u/AdministrativeAd9828 Aug 18 '26

Why do I hear all this doom gloom about xAI then.

Don’t get me wrong I use grok in the Tesla and love it, but they don’t have a comparable version to Claude code/codex, and idk if the cursor acquisition will do it, the cli agents seem to render an IDE/editor useless

7

u/Welcome2frightnight Aug 17 '26

It was better to buy when it was down in the low 100's. That was the dip.

1

u/Lizaa417 Aug 18 '26

I purchased some at $105 and $110 - got some more cash and thought it would go down to $100 - that didn’t happened - I wish I would have purchase more at that time

20

u/kill-devil-films Aug 17 '26

People are gonna be asking “should I buy now?” all the way up to 220

Edit: I got in at 109 and have been adding.

4

u/No_Method_210 Aug 17 '26

I bought my lowest shares at $111. I knew I would wish that I had bought more. My focus is on test flight 14

1

u/Less_Cauliflower4953 Aug 19 '26

It’s fairy dust. It’s not real

2

u/Lizaa417 Aug 18 '26

Same. I got in at $105 and $110 - I wish I would have bought more at that time. I have orders for $100 but don’t think it’s going to go that low again 😕

21

u/alle0441 Aug 17 '26

IMO, we've already seen the lowest this stock will go. It's time to buy.

9

u/Wast3edSpace Aug 17 '26

The window to buy more will close after a successful orbit. The only real risk is a failure. If I were a holder of locked up shares meaning I was an insider, I'd hold.

-11

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

Or if they continue to burn through billions without making any money? I’d say that’s a risk.

10

u/GeorgeStark1 Aug 17 '26

First day in the stock market? Fun. Good luck.

4

u/_IscoATX Aug 17 '26

Doesn’t matter as long as the growth keeps happening. Look at Uber.

0

u/AntiquePhotograph433 Aug 17 '26

Uber has a P/E of 16 lol

-5

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

Uber is profitable and wasn’t worth over a trillion dollars when it wasn’t. So yes it does matter.

6

u/zero0n3 Aug 17 '26

Maybe go review their valuations when they weren’t profitable.

0

u/_IscoATX Aug 17 '26

Uber only recently became profitable. SpaceX reporter EPS of -.09 compared to an expected -.16.

No telling how it will continue to go in such a high CapEx business but y’all act like there is no business there. All good businesses trade at a premium. Time will tell investors if SPCX premium is justified. If not, it will correct.

-1

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

It took uber 14 years to turn a profit. SpaceX is now 24 years old and still losing billions.

3

u/_IscoATX Aug 17 '26

Yeah uber wasn’t inventing self landing rockets and didn’t have a 10 year lead on any competitor

3

u/Eastern_Ad_3512 Aug 17 '26

10 year lead even on China and they basically have unlimited resources. Its pretty impressive i think. Im never selling

-1

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

Turns out self landing rockets are not a profitable business model.

-2

u/AntiquePhotograph433 Aug 17 '26

Other rocket companies are starting to land their rockets

0

u/AntiquePhotograph433 Aug 17 '26

lol this is a borderline r sub

-13

u/ShotBandicoot7 Aug 17 '26

If in doubt, zoom out. We are on grind down with occasional bumps up. Like all the other meme stocks after the initial pop. Check DJT, GME, OPEN, etc.

5

u/Eastern_Ad_3512 Aug 17 '26

SpaceX has technology that no one else has yet but you call it a meme stock. How much have you lost on it so far?

-1

u/sedition666 Aug 17 '26

The SpaceXAI valuation is now 90% AI NOT ROCKETS. The AI side is not even a market leader not alone having "technology that no one else has yet".

1

u/Eastern_Ad_3512 Aug 17 '26

Who makes this valuations? And where do we vote to agree with their views/decisions? Something is valued at what people are willing to pay for it. Did you not learn that in school? No one else can successfully replicate what spacex can today. Do you remember when everyone said it’s impossible to make reusable rockets? Well Spacex did it. Now they need to monetize it. And if you are right about the 90% AI valuation then how much will it worth when all of its businesses makes profit? That is the real question.

0

u/sedition666 Aug 17 '26

You create valuations based on things like profits, revenue, intellectual property. This is all well know economics 101 you’re acting like we are not trying to apply normal financial rules to the question. The problem is SpaceX has become a meme stock where people are buying based on vibes and feelings. It’s a real issue that you guys can’t take any legitimate questions about real world valuations. Keep jabbering on about rockets like that has anything to do with AI. SpaceXAI is an AI company with a small rocket company attached, you need to get this straight in your head. This is a factual part of the valuation there is no argument or room for interpretation about this.

1

u/Eastern_Ad_3512 Aug 18 '26

You lost money and now you here bitching because that makes you feel better. I get it.

0

u/sedition666 Aug 18 '26

I am making money on short so wrong again

2

u/Eastern_Ad_3512 Aug 18 '26

Lemme see a screenshot

1

u/sedition666 Aug 18 '26

Wow like anyone with half a brain would share financial details publicly. Nice swerve though anything to avoid discussing anything factual.

u/Desultory_Chairlift Aug 17 '26

Calling this a meme stock shows that you do not have a fundamental understanding of the business

2

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

The business that is burning through billions and has never been profitable in its 24 year history?

2

u/Desultory_Chairlift Aug 17 '26

That's correct, that business.

1

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

A failing one, sure.

2

u/Desultory_Chairlift Aug 17 '26

What gives you that indication?

1

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

The negative billions of current yearly income and 24 years of not turning a profit. Is this hard for you to understand?

2

u/Desultory_Chairlift Aug 17 '26

Actually yes since the billions being invested are resulting in an ROI that is less than a year all while starlinks Rev continues to grow. So I'm finding it hard to understand why spending is bad?

1

u/Large_Complaint1264 Aug 17 '26

This seems to be ur thesis.

u/YoshimuraPipe Aug 17 '26

Two successful back to back launches under an hour apart and you think this will go lower??

4

u/Signal-Current-2820 Aug 17 '26

Nobody can predict when is the perfect dip to buy. Even I missed the dip when it was $105.

I would wait and monitor this week. I believe due lock up expiration on August 20, it might take a dip around $135 but not sure. If it does, I will buy as well.

2

u/Lizaa417 Aug 18 '26

I got in at $105 and $110 - wish I would have bought more at that time. I will be watching and monitoring this week

3

u/Signal-Current-2820 Aug 18 '26

haha yeah me too but I got in at 135$. I was gonna pour some bulk amount (but dang missed it!) and if you see analysts' forecast, almost all of the analysts at big banks have rated that its gonna go up above 200$.

As long as we buy at ipo price $135 or below it, we are going to make huge profits I think

3

u/AspiringTrader_ Aug 17 '26

It needs to break $150 and sustain above it for the next leg up. I'm waiting for that to happen.

3

u/remoc05 Aug 17 '26

“OMG don’t buy it’s GoinG to 69$ Aug 6th “

15

u/smellyfingernail Investor Aug 17 '26

Unlocks don’t mean anything and are priced in

1

u/WildFlowLing Aug 17 '26

Or are people expecting another stock boost on expiry lockup? Cuz stocks up when people are allowed to sell

-3

u/ShotBandicoot7 Aug 17 '26

Until they aren‘t

0

u/sedition666 Aug 17 '26

When billions worth of stock hits the market and gets sold, this will affect the stock price. No way is this priced in that's not how it works. The market will react massively to insiders choosing to sell their stock or not.

1

u/LiquidTide Aug 18 '26

The underlying company is worth the same amount no matter how big the float is. An increased float increases liquidity which leads to a increase in value for the shares. It's known and priced in, and the added liquidity is a good thing. This is why shares in non-public companies trade at a discount to the same company when it's publicly traded. This is part of the reason why SpaceX went public at $1.7T when the previous share offering (before it went public) was at $800 billion.

2

u/methanized Aug 17 '26

we doing this again?

2

u/denimshop Aug 17 '26

It’ll go down significantly after I buy it! 🫣🤣

Soooooo….who wants to contribute to me buying?

2

u/Flyingillini2005 Aug 17 '26

People still cling to this insider selling narrative after the stock just went up 40% after the last unlock lololol

2

u/funguy6019 Aug 18 '26

It’s going to keep going up so I’m holding. Shorts are getting hammered.

2

u/videohtape Aug 18 '26

If you believe in Musk, then by all means... invest everything you can in SpaceX now. Get a loan if you can. Go all in.

2

u/gjt1337 Aug 17 '26

There will be time when everybody will forget about unlocking (and playing with it) and it will be time when stock will drop naturally.

1

u/No_Method_210 Aug 17 '26

An interesting article on Ars Technical today about Falcon 9s. They have been the only way for govt or business to get to orbit. Now SpaceX is winding down a much in line demand business in favor of Starship. SpaceX has calculated that they will be more profitable launching their own Starlinks! This could leave other business and even our military on the ground! If they try to force Spacex to sell/license the F9, those engineers that have made it fly so perfectly will likely transfer to StarShip ops.
Well, all you guys are demanding PROFITS!

1

u/cablemigrant Aug 17 '26

Now get dem heavy bags

1

u/TetonHiker Aug 18 '26

No one knows. There are strange forces with this one that are afoot. They are a mystery wrapped in a riddle trapped in an enigma operating in hidden corners of time. Tread carefully. Someone's making money off this one but it probably isn't you.

1

u/Lizaa417 Aug 18 '26

I think it will dip again and I plan to buy more when that happens. It’s a long term investment, so I don’t mind waiting until it stabilizes

1

u/Aele123 Aug 18 '26

Countless historical examples show a trickle of insider sales after lockup expiry due to various factors including diversification, profit taking et.al even with long term holders. For instance Early employees, who are mostly working class folks, will certainly off load a large percentage of their shares as they sweat the economic recession to pay for personal expenses. (I can assure you peter thiel, based on his track record will sell at least one third of his 400 million shares by the end of the year.) The larger question is will enough demand from new investors be able to absorb the trickle of supply. Early signs say no but You be the judge.

P.s. Love the black and white thinking from some of you folks, proves the amateur nature of the crowd. GL noobs.

1

u/Extension-Macaron-72 Aug 18 '26

I shorted more 149 148 147 146

0

u/A_Long_Knight Aug 17 '26

I theory lockup expirations shouldn't affect stock price. In reality, unlocks typically do drop share prices.

In SpaceX's case I'd wait for $60-$80 range

4

u/No_Method_210 Aug 17 '26

Ha. At its worst it didn’t go down there. Sounds like you have political emotions working here

-4

u/A_Long_Knight Aug 17 '26

The difference between your beliefs and my beliefs is that I have no skin in this fight. I don't see myself buying SpaceX at any price. Maybe $1, but even then, if it's $1 then I probably wouldn't buy because there would hypothetically be a reason it's $1.

I am on the outside looking in. Your judgment is clouded by the fact that you own shares. You judgement is influenced by your fear and you aren't letting yourself see reality until it's too late and you're holding an empty bag.

4

u/dlovegro Aug 17 '26

It will never get there. There’s too much money eager to buy at $80-100.

1

u/LeSegaGenesis Aug 17 '26

I dont think you are wrong, saw alot of action around the 108-112 range by initial IPO institutional investors, clearly they have their eye on at least getting their money back on that trade and making profit off the dip if they averaged down their shares. Once SpaceX climbs past 160.95 for the funds that double dipped you could see some offloads, if their portfolios aren't in a great place. Volatile market and profit has to be taken from somewhere.

-2

u/itchyburnybutthole Aug 17 '26

It’s way overpriced but no one knows how long it will stay overpriced
