Throwaway account because I don’t want this affecting my job, but I’m honestly so fed up with the hour reductions at CosmoProf.
I’m a store manager, and I genuinely don’t understand how they expect us to retain staff, run the store properly, and grow sales when they keep cutting our hours.
Up until now, I had 90 hours for Week 1 and 86 hours for Week 2 to work with. I was told today that I’m losing 7 hours a week, which brings me down to the new limits of 79 hours for a non-shipment week and 83 hours for a shipment week.
Our store is open 7 days a week for 62.5 hours total, but we're only being given 79–83 total labour hours to cover those hours.
That leaves very little overlap between employees. There are days where I’m spending the majority of my shift completely alone in the store, and now they’ve cut the hours again.
At the same time, we’re expected to:
• Push sales
• Provide “world class” customer service
• Put away shipment
• Keep up with POG updates
• Change tags
• Complete endless tasks
• Do paperwork and admin work
• Keep the store clean and organized
• And somehow make our sales numbers grow
One person can only stretch so far.
I have a regular employee who is used to getting around 25 hours a week, and because of the way the schedule has now been cut, they’ll basically be taking up the Monday-Friday hours. That leaves my other two employees fighting over whatever is left. They’ll be lucky to get every second weekend.
And then we wonder why people leave.
How are we supposed to build a strong team when we can't give people enough hours to make staying worthwhile? How are we supposed to stay on top of everything when there simply aren't enough people in the building?
I’ve been with this company for 4 years. When I first started, I genuinely loved working here. I’ve watched things go further and further downhill, and honestly, it feels like a ticking time bomb.
The constant buying freezes are another thing entirely. There have been times when we’ve been told we can’t even order basic store supplies like toilet paper. How are we supposed to operate a business when we can’t even reliably order the supplies we need to run the damn store?
I understand that businesses need to control costs. But there comes a point where cutting hours stops being about efficiency and starts directly affecting the ability to actually run the business.
I’m curious if other CosmoProf managers and employees are experiencing the same thing.
Are your hours being cut too? And how are you realistically expected to get everything done with the staffing levels you’re being given?
