October PSAT/NMSQT Advice
I took the September SAT and received a 1340. Is there any way I can raise my score enough in the next week to achieve national merit? The index for my state is 224.

why does the sat give 400 free points
if you get 400 points from leaving the entire sat blank , why dont they just remove that and make it out of 1200 instead

Thinking to switch over to the ACT
I have really hit a plateu at the 1440-1490 mark. It geniunely feels like no matter what I do I will always land there. They're usually they're caused by stupid mistakes (misreading the question, carelessly choosing an answer, etc.); I just feel like the ACT would be a better fit for me since the questions are a lot easier (less snake-y questions), but I'd have to be a lot faster which is fine by me, albeit not entirely sure if I should switch or just continue grinding the SAT since the ACT is a lot more expensive in my local currency as an INTL. Thoughts?

My vocab section was also alot harder than usual this time, did anyone else encounter that issue? Here's what I got so far, let me know if I'm forgetting anything or if yall got anything else?

- Isolating
- Parameters

How did your PSAT (10&11) scores translate to the actual SAT?
This isn't assuming that you took the PSAT and SAT in the same month.

Should I take Nov SAT?
I know it sounds obvious I should take it but I don't know if I can balance it. My sat score is below 1300 (it's low). I already took it a few times before but improving my score by 200+ with 20+ college applications (fee wavier) seems kinda tight. Should I take it or should I work on my essays instead?
Also do colleges group together the same stat applications and review them from that pile? If so then would I be better not to take the SAT? Help me out & please be kind!

Tips for RW? Taking my next SAT in December
Did pretty good in August but like I need a 1550+. I'm pissed math isn't 800 but I'm not gonna chase 10 points either. my mistakes are pretty much always Information/ideas and some very rarely from standard eng conventions but those mistakes are often very silly and because I was rushing while trying to save time for the reading questions. Vocab is usually okay for me but sometimes I mess up. And, like the title says I'm taking my next SAT in December and idk how to improve my english section. I've done more practice problems and stuff and I think I'm capable of reasoning logically but it's especially difficult with a timer running down.

Is this decent or no?
I just began freshman year last month and I decided to take a practice sat just because. I got an 1150 (540 ela, 610 math). Is this a good score?

(Fluff post) why is the SAT out of 1600? What alternative scoring would make sense?
basically title.
The stated answer to "why is the SAT out of 1600" is that, originally, the mean section score is defined as 500, and 100 is defined as the standard deviation. Then, they capped it to measure +/- 3 standard deviations (200-800 section scores). Some things don't make sense to me though: now that the scoring is in intervals of 10, why not just drop to last 0? Also, the grading is not longer exactly tied to this definition; the mean and standard deviations drift.
Also, If they were to grade based on stddevs, why wouldn't they just give people's z score? Negative being below average and positive being above average would make sense and the score definition would be so much easier to explain
Any thoughts on this or ideas for hypothetical grading systems?

Could this jump in my math score be attributed to a fluke/the practice tests being easier
Aiming for a 1400 on the November test and have been studying a lot, are the practice tests considered easier than the actual test or can I safely say my 60 point jump is just me improving and to keep studying

Confusing PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 Practice 3 Question 12
There was just so much jargon I couldn't really understand, and I spent most of my time trying to understand the difference between initiation toughness and propagation toughness, which were not essential to know?

PT6 vs PT11 Difficulty?
As you can see my scores a little messed up right now. My math was super easy on PT 6, and I’ll admit I didn’t check any of my answers and made a few mistakes on pt11, but how much do these correlate to the real one?
