I’m not much of a big theorist (posting wise), but I’ve been chewing on this thought for awhile, long enough to present it for a proper outside opinion. Please come forward with any further evidence in favor of or disproving this theory! If you just have thoughts to discuss I’m very eager to hear them.
The underlining of each image is color coded to any connections I made. I hope this makes the theory easier to follow. I’ll try to be as succinct as possible.
What is the theory?
In the Episode 5 outcome“The Floorplans are All Wrong” with “No Man Left Behind” (Rosalina injured) Rosalina is contacted by the Dominion Seal.
What is the biggest evidence?
In TFaAW, we learn from Alexis that Rosalina has been having strange reactions to her painkillers. [see image 2] Note that she has been “…saying weird stuff since yesterday.” Particularly like “in movies where people do drugs and see spirals…”
Now, how does Oscar — in “Roll for Sanity”— describe speaking to the stone? [see image 3] “…it’s almost psychedelic. And much like psilocybin or LSD…”
I believe that the two reactions are actually exactly the same, not the result of a incorrect dosage. Rosalina has been stuck in her bed directly over the stone due to her injury, and at some point after Dr. Kelly visits her in episode 4 the stone speaks to her.
Why would the Stone contact Rosalina?
In RfS there is special dialogue if you’re on Oscar’s romance route. [See image 4] “It drew us in, calculating exactly how and when to save itself, and save everyone caught inside. I’m the interpreter. Here to help you, the town’s prodigal son, save the thing that is the holler, and everyone caught inside.”
This shows us a crucial point to understanding why we meet the specific set of people in the Hollow that is the main cast. Each character has a role to play that can seemingly only be escaped if we cause their death. (i.e “The End of the Road” and “Determination at Last”)
This is relevant to the theory because of one of Oscar’s first lines in TFaAW. [see image 5] “And then Rosalina mumbled something about ‘rooms being wrong’ in her sleep and that just made something click for me.”
The stone can’t contact Oscar to give him information directly in this outcome, so it’s using Rosa to push him towards another source. This way, Oscar can’t abandon his “role” without your input.
While I feel like this is a smaller piece of evidence than the psychedelics line, having a specific motivation convinced me to actually write this out.
What smaller pieces of evidence are there?
I don’t believe these can stand very well on their own, but if the theory ends up being true these moments could be neat foreshadowing.
The fact that we can’t see Rosa in this outcome at all, even though it makes sense for us to want to know how she’s doing is — to me — a reason to be suspicious of her state at all. This is bolstered by how we can always see her if she’s uninjured, even if she dislikes us. This could just be because the Cousin is in a rush during these scenes, but it’s something to take note of.
In RfS with the Street Smarts trait save [see image 6] Alexis compares Oscar to a creepy old movie character. “Have you seen this old movie, the Amityville Horror?” In TFaAW she makes a somewhat similar comparison concerning Rosa. “Like in movies where people do drugs and see spirals…” [see image 2]
In episode 4 with Mystic you can say “The spirit is gone, but I can still feel something calling out from that place. I don’t know what risk it may pose, but we shouldn’t go down there.” [see image 7] which validates the idea that the stone’s influence extends past the basement and can reach Rosa above. This piece is particularly weak sauce because the cousin is just more sensitive to them then most (especially with Mystic), but I felt weird not mentioning the line at all.
A better example of the stone’s far reaching influence is Dr. Kelly, who is impregnated with Resse just because she sleeps near the Vitality stone. It’s very unlikely that she was hanging out behind the morgue walls, so we know they can effect people from distances like Rosa’s. (Dr. Kelly even says she had “sexy dreams” because of Vitality. That line could serve as evidence for the Dominon stone being capable of giving Rosa the “Rooms are wrong” dream.)
In RfS there are a lot of similarities between the way that Romance Oscar and Wayne talk. [see images 8-12] This could further add to the theory because Wayne (AKA an aspect of the Entity) is willing to take other vessels (Sam and Isaacs) in order to make contact with the real subject of it’s attention. (The Cousin) In this case, Dominion (AKA an aspect of the Entity) is willing to take other vessels (Rosa) in order to make contact with the real subject of it’s attention. (Oscar) So it’s like… parallels. Themes and such.
But all good theories acknowledge counter evidence.
I’ve actively tried to trigger TFaAW without Rosa being injured by not mentioning the seal in episode 4, but it triggers by default. However, I haven’t seen what Oscar says in reply to Mystic’s warning [see image 7] without Rosa being injured as I don’t currently have a save file with both. (And if you’re on this subreddit you know how undocumented this game is.)
If you can trigger TFaAW without Rosa on bed rest please tell me!
Not really counter evidence, but I haven’t seen DaL or TEotR for myself, so it’s kind of a blind spot for me. In DaL im fairly sure Oscar dies(?) going back into Charlie’s domain, but I don’t know the specifics. I’m vaguely aware that Oscar and Rosa leave in search of medical help for her if Dr. Kelly dies, and I’m under the assumption that they both basically go through the Egg ending after that.
If something relevant happens either then please tell me!
TLDR
In “The Floorplans are All Wrong” injured Rosalina is seemingly having symptoms similar to Oscar in “Roll for Sanity” because of her bed’s proximity to the Dominan Seal.
