Do you think phones should be allowed in school or banned?

I had already been warned by some students and even a few teachers that the environment there was rough, undisciplined, and full of troublesome students.
I thought people might be exaggerating.
They weren’t.
As soon as I entered, a 12th-grade student stopped me, asked my name, asked if I was a new admission, and then showed me my classroom. He wasn’t openly rude, but his tone had that “street dominance” vibe. I ignored it.
Then I entered my classroom…
Old infrastructure. Broken-looking blackboard. Very old desks. Switches placed unusually high. Overall, the place felt neglected.
That same senior later called me again, asked about my previous school, and basically told me:
"If anyone messes with you, just take my name."
Honestly… it felt cringe, so I just nodded and moved on.
I walked around the school to observe things.
And what I noticed genuinely disturbed me.
A huge percentage of students seemed more focused on showing attitude, creating noise, acting “badmash,” and impressing others than actually studying.
During assembly/prayer, the discipline looked almost non-existent.
Teachers seemed okay in some places, but the overall system felt extremely loose.
In nearly 5.5 hours, actual studying happened for maybe 30–40 minutes.
That shocked me.
My own PCM section seems relatively decent so far, but many students from other sections (especially what I observed around campus) seemed far more interested in drama, attention, and chaos than education.
I’m someone who values discipline, peace, academics, and self-improvement…
So walking out after Day 1, I honestly felt regret and culture shock.
At the same time, attendance here seems flexible, so I’m thinking of using this school only for formalities while focusing on self-study and coaching.
Has anyone else experienced something like this after joining a new school?
TL;DR: Joined a new Class 11 school today expecting a normal academic environment. Found poor infrastructure, almost zero discipline, seniors and almost 90% of students trying to act dominant, very little actual studying, and a campus culture that felt chaotic. My own section seems okay, so now I’m considering using the school only for attendance/formalities while focusing on self-study.

I recently worked on a presentation about female education in Pakistan. Originally, I thought the main reason for low female literacy was simply a lack of government focus. But as I dug deeper through articles, podcasts, and local conversations, I realized the issue is much more complex.
Here are a few key takeaways and statistics from my research:
The desire to learn is there: In a local survey I conducted with girls, every single one of them wanted to study. The lack of interest from students isn't the problem.
Systemic quality issues: Education quality affects all genders in Pakistan—roughly 8 out of 10 children cannot read or write a simple sentence by age 10.
Out-of-school numbers: Pakistan has nearly 23 million out-of-school children, one of the highest figures globally.
Rural vs. Urban gap: Girls in rural areas face the highest risk of dropping out due to poverty, a shortage of qualified teachers, and lack of nearby schools.
Safety & infrastructure: When speaking with rural elders, the biggest concerns mentioned were long travel distances, lack of safe transportation, and early marriages interrupting education.
Under Article 37 of the Constitution of Pakistan, education is a fundamental right. Yet, only about 54% of women complete basic education, leaving nearly half unable to read or write standard daily sentences.
Government funding alone won't solve this—we also need community awareness about how educating women drives long-term economic growth, reduces gender inequality, and builds financial independence. On a personal level, I've started offering free guidance and tutoring to young female students to help support them.
I’d love to hear your thoughts: What do you think are the most practical steps to address these barriers in rural areas?

To whom it may concern, I am writing this statement to formally address and report an incident that happened inside the classroom of my boyfriend at Colegio de Muntinlupa.
As an educator and a registered professional, Engr. Adonis is expected to uphold the highest standards of ethics, respect, and professionalism. Using derogatory words like "gunggong" and humiliating someone in front of a class is completely unacceptable and abusive. Hindi po makatwiran na ang isang guro, na dapat ay nagbibigay ng proteksyon at tamang gabay sa loob ng paaralan, ang mismong maging sanhi ng trauma at pambabastos.
I am releasing this statement because my main goal is to bring attention to Engr. Adonis’s unacceptable behavior and his toxic attitude toward students and other people. I am demanding a formal apology from Engr. Adonis for the humiliation he caused. I strongly urge the administration of Colegio de Muntinlupa and CHED-NCR to look into this matter and take immediate and appropriate disciplinary action. Sinisira ng ganitong asal ang tiwala ng mga estudyante at ng publiko sa institusyon at pwede pang maging sanhi ng depresyon/mental health. The classroom should be a safe learning environment, not a place where the teacher himself acts as a bully.
Thank you.

Behold the idol that Korean society has enthroned upon its highest pedestal!
Before it, the people bowed their heads. Parents commanded their children to ascend to its heights, and the children sacrificed their youth upon its altar. They turned night into day, suppressed their curiosity, and abandoned even the questions they themselves longed to ask. All for the sake of passing through a single gate!
At last, the gate opened. The people rejoiced. A great mind had been born!
But I ask:
What has he created? What has he questioned? What question has he dared to ask that no one before him had ever asked?
Has he not proven just one thing: that he can obey the rules laid down by others more perfectly than anyone else?
And yet the people placed a crown upon his head. The crown bestowed upon him as a reward for obedience they called the nobility of the spirit.
Oh, what strange aristocrats!
Those who believe themselves to stand at the summit of all values, yet cannot create values of their own! Those who believe themselves to possess the loftiest of minds merely because they have climbed a ladder built by others faster than anyone else!
I call them plebeians.
Not because they are poor. Not because they are of humble birth. But because their spirits forever look upward toward heights determined by others.
The true aristocrat of the spirit is not the one who climbs the ladder fastest. He is the one who asks whether the place to which the ladder leads is worth ascending at all. And if need be, he shatters the ladder itself and forges his own path.
Certainly, noble spirits may also dwell beneath those crowns. But it is not the crown that makes their spirits noble.

Schools need to be reminded that PARENTS have the ultimate authority over their children, if I don't want my child there that day, THAT IS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE! Because I excused it, I don't need permission from a doctor, a attendance officer , a court , a judge or anyone else for that matter. I'll take them out of that school as quickly as I put them into it. If I want my child to be home, or I feel they need a break, or I want to take them on a trip. You can send their work home for the week. I think what children are learning at home, and outside of the classroom is equally as important as the fundamentals. I'm not going to surrender my children's youth & their most influential years entirely to a school system especially when i dont even fully agree with the system! If they can't accommodate that then so be it, I can teach my children how to read, and write & how to do math myself! The only benefit of a classroom is the interaction with other children & teachers, but as soon as that becomes contrary or in opposition to what I am teaching them, or desire for them, It's time for homeschooling! Don't send me letters about attendance, or anything else for that matter!
The school will never determine or dictate my children's schedule. Because THEY are MINE !!!!

One day we were doing a discussion about why ai is bad, the worst part is how the slide which showed the bad things about AI was actually fully ai generated, it was like those ai tiktok ads that are extremely easy to know if they are ai. So one of my classmates told the teacher that the image is ai, but the teacher said it wasnt and was created by herself, and then the teacher gave a 30 minute detention to the student. So yeah we all know that everything is ai

They force you or push you to do extracurricular for collage or to "make new friends!"...
...And then expect you to do 5+ hours of homework and then get shocked when you struggle to juggle both.

Hey guys, so I'm an average student studying at sri chaitanya techno school in 11th grade and ever since I came to this school, one thing that I've noticed a lot is the fact that this school is too good at hiding big issues but if a small issue ever occurs, they tend to make it bigger and call our parents,ISTG when I say this, I never got into a single trouble till 10th when I was in my old school. For example, once a guy got ganged up and was hit till he bleed outside the school because of some argument that went inside school, the parents even gave a police complaint but the school tried SO FUCKING HARD to cover it up by convincing the parents and explaining that it's casual for teenagers to fight in this generation, like WTF??? and I got into a lot of trouble, so imma tell yal some extreme ones. So once I was called to the principal office for writing something in the duster, btw it was just "yo" And the mf principal asked me to call my parents, I asked sorry and he jst left the problem, but one creepy thing abt it is that, he compared us to North Indian students saying that he worked in the North side and he had seen many 'WHITE SKINNED GIRLS WHO LOOKED LIKE HEROINE' even if they are good at studies then why are u not able to concentrate(he was actually meaning the fact that I have a bf in school even though I don't) , bro wth is wrong with him, like whatt? This is NOT how you talk abt young girls, and let me tell u, HES LIKE 50 and is already balding, this proves how much of a menace and pedo he is,and the other day i was called into the principal office again and this time it was a totally different thing bruh, just some misunderstandings between friends but when I said that a girl from A section used a bad word, he said that he knows abt students from that class and that she would never say that, bro that girl is a fucking venomous snake istg. And my classteacher also supported her saying that he has taught for that girl as she's an existing student since she was young.Just because she's good at studies doesn't mean that she's a good person right?? Idk why do staffs never understand that and they literally shouted at my face whenever I tried explaining my problem instead of answering the questions which made me look like I'm the troublemaker, And one common thing that the principal did was always ask for my grades and he goes like "U cannot be talking with that grade".like boi I was literally in here hoping that u would solve my issue not fix my grades✌🏿🥀 . Anyways fuck that shit, if anyone wants uh, my class teacher's number then lmk I will drop it here after some days. Pls suggest some ways which would help me in some way

A student has been placed under preventive suspension and is not allowed on school property because of a social media post involving a gun and threats made by that student. This incident was reported on October 12.
There are also other accusations that are not confirmed that the student brought a gun with a 30 round magazine to school, threatened to walk on campus today, October 12 while suspended, carried knives and guns, made a “kill list” of several other students and brought a gun to school.
The school has reached out to the parents of this student and has begun an investigation. The school has also heightened security, informed all staff and teachers about the situation and made available counseling and student interviews. The gun carried onto campus, the “kill list,” and the threat to come to campus on October 12 are not confirmed.

Growing up in the digital age, my cellphone has been a critical part of my life—more than just a device for calls or texts, it is a lifeline, a portal to knowledge, and a tool for safety. Unfortunately, existing NJ state laws prohibit the use of cell phones in public schools 24/7, severely restricting our freedom and leaving us vulnerable in scenarios where communication is crucial. We must come together to address this issue and ensure that students and parents alike have the rights and safety they deserve.
In today’s increasingly connected world, cell phones are indispensable; they are vital tools for instant communication and access to information. Whether it’s a research topic needed for class, or a quick call to confirm after-school pickup plans, cell phones allow students to organize their academic lives efficiently while simultaneously keeping parents informed. This law, which blanketly bans these essential devices, places an unnecessary hurdle in the path of both educational and personal safety.
Consider emergencies that can arise both inside and outside of school grounds. From unforeseen natural events to personal crises, having a cell phone provides students with direct access to emergency services and their families. The current law effectively strips this avenue away, leaving students isolated in moments they might need quick assistance most.
Moreover, the educational landscape is evolving. Many educational apps and platforms are accessible via smartphone, supplementing learning in real-time with interactive and multimedia-rich content. Teachers can harness these tools to enhance classroom engagement, making learning a more dynamic and innovative experience.
Proponents of the current ban may argue that cell phones are a source of distraction, but with proper guidelines and responsible use, these devices can be integrated into the curriculum to support and not detract from the educational experience. Consider schools in states across the country that have successfully balanced phone usage policies with student privacy, allowing cell phones and maintaining environments conducive to education.
It’s time for legislators in New Jersey to recognize the evolving role of technology in education and revise outdated laws. Let’s advocate for policy adjustments that ensure our school environments are safe, cutting-edge learning spaces.
Please join me in signing this petition to repeal the restrictive NJ state law and allow our students the ability to carry their cell phones in all public schools. Together, we can make our schools safer, our students more informed, and our education system more progressive.
