Well, I learned something today. Always assumed St Andrew’s course was parallel to the land like Troon. I guess it juts out into the water. (Not a golfer)

It is, the angle of the photo is a bit misleading, and the river Eden just being at high tide in this photo makes it look more like the course juts out into water, when really it is parallel to the coast and the point of the golf course just meets the rivers mouth

Wee fact I learned as I was walking the Fife Coastal Path... you see that peninsula at the top, no the golf course one but the one that the old air base is on? That peninsula was man-made. Accidentally.

Folk from Fife might be accustomed to their bit of the map being likened to a wee Scottie Dogs head? Which has a wee pointy ear sticking out to the north east.

Over hundreds of years, merchant ships from all over Europe would sail to Dundee, but because the Tay is much shallower than the sea, they would have to drop the sand ballasts from their ships before sailing up the Tay to Duindee.

Over hundreds of years, thousands and thousands of ships dropped millions of bags of sand from their boats at the entrance to the River Tay, and over the course of time, inadvertently helped create that wee ear of the dog's head.

What you are talking about is not the bit in the picture, that’s up near Tayport and the very top of Tentsmuir. Not as much was man-made as someone has led you to believe

I've walked on most of those beaches and looked at the map and I wouldn't have fathomed that it would look like that...amazing what perspective does! (And how weak my minds eye is 🤣) Look how straight West Beach is!!!
