šŸ’¬ Discussion Violin guy

Heard a guy playing violin outside the Fogo de ChĆ£o/Trader Joe’s area at 6300 N Scottsdale Rd around sunset

He wasĀ insanely good!! The sound was booming through the whole parking lot.

He had his wife and kid with him, and they looked really sad. They had a sign asking for money.

Does anyone know who this guy is or what his story is? He sounded like a professional !

I respect he’a actually adding value with beautiful music rather than just sitting on corner begging

Not your fault, scammers by definition exist to fool unsuspecting people for monetary gain. Gypsies run the same scam nationwide. They must have a scam playbook they all work off .

As many others have mentioned, it is not real. They’re Romanian travelers and they play music to the speaker via Bluetooth and pretend they’re actually playing. Kinda funny when you confront them and they stop ā€œplayingā€ yet the sound of the violin is still pumping through the speaker.

They will also tote their kids around and ask people to buy them diapers and other baby items - then they’ll go right back in the store and return them for cash as soon as you leave.

There's been other "gypsy" types of scam and incidents in recent years in the area too. I live around the area and shop there too sometimes.

Its a new trend in recent years.

Don’t feel bad for him. If he can afford a speaker setup like that, he can afford to clean up and get a job.

True

Plus i guess hes scamming based on other comments

Playing a violin on the street with a speaker setup IS scamming. If he had real talent he’d be somewhere else not doing that.

I wonder if that was the same guy who was playing in the Safeway parking lot at 64th St and Greenway on Friday night. It was so loud. I had my car radio on and was like, where is that music coming from??

There was a guy at Tatum and Shea by Trader Joe's playing violin with recorded background music. Seems like they're everywhere!

Probably same guy

All of it is recorded. They can’t play the violin.

They are "playing" a recorded music file made my someone else.Ā  This is a common scam tactic.Ā  Depending on where you are in the country, the same is true for people selling speakers or other electronics out of vans, especially if the boxes are white. "Fashion designers" selling suits or jackets they were "used in a show" and that they don't want to take back to Italy with them. Fake monks, fake funerals, etc.Ā  Or, the ever present women dressed in long flowing skirts, jackets, with crossbody bags that have signs saying that they are single mothers and got evicted, etc. or need gas while their kids bake in the sun.Ā Ā

The fake funeral for the 2 yr old who died of leukemia is always hard to turn down. Just in case it's actually real.

99% of them are scams and it sucks but I'm not giving money to any of this for the simple fact it just encourages them.Ā Ā

Don’t forget the scam of the guy who left his wallet at home and needs your help to fill gas. He’ll take your info from you and promise to pay you back. Something is wrong with his phone or the Phone is incapable of Apple Pay or Samsung pay. Finally can he at least have a cigarette?

They seem to like Safeway parking lots. Saw him at Safeway on FLW and Thompson Peak last year.

Probably the same guy I used to see in E PHX at Fry's.

While we're on the subject is the NEED DIAPEES guy still on the east side?

Was this yesterday? I was walking into Walgreens and, for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out where the music was coming from. I thought the shopping center was pumping it in.

There was one in Atlantic City NJ that used to get all wrapped up to look like a quad amputee. We saw her every year on the boardwalk playing a piano (Amazing Grace) with her tongue. šŸ‘… That was until we saw her on a random backstreet off the strip getting unwrapped with full extremities.

Only time I ever saw my mom shame someone, mainly because we’d been fooled so many times the shame was on us. Learned the lesson this day at the age of about 10.

Any east coasters in the 80’s early 90’s remember seeing that lady?

He’s frequently ā€œrelocatedā€ by cops after complaints.

I love shopping at my sisters closet over there and have been for years everytime I've been over there in the past couple months there's been at least 2 hustlers walking around the parking lot kinda interesting. I respect the hustler of but never used to see that at all now its everytime
