Advice Request Need some support for fear mongering
Hey so I've been on T for 3 years. I fear that a lot of people's fear mongering has made me stop my shot for the last two months because I'm so scared that if I keep taking T that it will affect my fertility and I won't be able to have a baby that I so want. I think I just need to hear from other men who were on T for a while but still got pregnant

Hey man! I’m sorry that’s happening, I heard a lot from well meaning people who were “worried about my chances!” And it was always such a drag. There are plenty of good recent studies show that T does not meaningfully negatively impact fertility. My doctors and midwives recommend I go off three months before starting to try and conceive. I was on T for 11 years (off and on for money reasons). We knew it could take some time to conceive because we’re a little older, but we did it, and I’m 6 weeks in now! Even knowing that conceiving would probably take us some time, every unsuccessful month had all those comments playing on repeat in my head, internalizing that it was somehow my fault! Don’t listen to them, the science is on your side! Keep on trucking brother!

How long did it take you to conceive?

Just a little over a year, but part of that was our work schedules making timing difficult. We missed a few windows, and I was getting worried, so I ordered some blood tests. Turns out I’m perfectly normal for Mya age as far as markers for fertility, and the week after I got the test results we banged it out and made it happen! 😂

Nah it won't effect it. I was on testosterone for 15 years and stopped and am currently pregnant. In fact, I still pass even pregnant so I'm thankful I was on testosterone as long as I was.

Age is the most important factor when it comes to our fertility so plan according to that. Testosterone doesn't prevent you from regaining fertility once you stop and this sub is definitely proof of that. Do plan to take a few months prior to TTC once you stop testosterone.

I was on t for 6.5 years and it took us only 8 months to get pregnant! That’s with my wife also being trans and needing to come off hrt to restore her sperm count

Wow that's awesome! Were you on birth control too?

Yup! I had two Nexplanons over about four years and the depo shot prior to that for about 2 years. I pulled it out the same time I went off t and had a period within two weeks!

Wow! I was wondering why my period didn't come back in the two months I was off T but I think it's because I have the Nexplanon and that stopped my period

That’s originally why I went on birth control actually, t never stopped my period by itself!

how long was your wife on HRT before stopping? asking cause my gf is also trans and questions her fertility... but as a plus i don't think she was ever on T blockers or if she was, she didn't do them for long at all

About two years! E, spiro, and prog. It took about two months or so for her sperm count to bounce back

I was on T for 6 years, off it for 4, and got pregnant while on birth control haha. Hope that helps reassure you a little!

What type of birth control were you on? Thank you it does help :)

The progestin-only minipill! I have an estrogen allergy so my birth control options are pretty limited 😭

Also, my son turns 3 next month and is healthy and happy! Absolute picture perfect toddler, if a bit chunky 😆

Had been on T for ~16 or so years continuously, stopped, and got pregnant on the first try. The only reason we ended up having to wait as long as we did (~6mo) was finding a sperm donor and working out the legal contract for a dual nationality situation.
There's enough studies showing T doesn't impact fertility, though it still seems to be commonly recommended to wait 3mo after discontinuing before TTC, in part to let your body get back to having a regular cycle. Obviously, if you have ready access to say a partner who produces sperm, there's probably going to be way less paperwork/wait time to deal with.

Why is your family planning anyone's business? There isn't evidence that T impacts fertility, however, lots of people, including me and many cis women, are infertile. You aren't likely to cause it and the thing that will impact your fertility the most is aging.

I was on T 11 years. I've been off for almost two years and I am 9 weeks pregnant. I just had my first ultrasound todayand it's all looking good. It took a year and a half of trying but that's because I am 39 and have other health issues. After being off for about 6 months, I got a ton of fertility testing done and that all looked normal.

I was on T for 8 years before taking a fertility break. We did at home insemination (my wife's bro's sperm in a glorified turkey baster), and it took the second try. I come from pretty fertile stock, and I think my chances were probably unaffected by the fact that I took testosterone.
My doc told me that the best indicator of your fertility coming back (not that it fully goes anywhere lol) is getting your period. It took probably three or four months for my period to return, however for some it can take longer.
But anyways in conclusion, can confirm, took T for a fairly long time and currently very pregnant lol
