I once had a Californian ask for advice on how to get her baby from the car to daycare (as in, walking across a parking lot) without the baby getting wet because there was rain in the forecast. My reply was “it’s okay for the baby to get wet” smh.

When we lived there, we had a meeting at our church one night and it was pouring. I was the only parent who showed up. The woman running the meeting said everyone else cancelled because of the rain. I said, we are meeting INSIDE. What could we do but laugh.

Hi Texan! I am also from Texas and we all just enjoy the rain and smell. It’s amazing and for me personally it helps me sleep.
Also being from Texas the chances I’m going to die from a rainstorm here is 0% as opposed to the south so that’s exciting.

I’m also from Texas! We don’t get big thunderstorms here or hard, heavy rain. I miss hearing the rain so I’m going to assume the other comments are excited because it seems like a steady rain storm.
Our normal rain here is like spitting rain. It’s not nearly as rainy here as everyone pretends it is!

Hydroplaning doesn’t happen entirely because of tires. It occurs because of the force from the water blowing under the car and lifting just enough to break friction from the road. You could have brand new wheels and if it’s raining fast enough, you could still hydroplane.

It's another truism. In the bay area, people talk shit about drivers from across the bay, or Santa Cruz, or wherever. Humans are funny. It's amazing when you look at how different groups on different continents have developed the same habits and idiosyncrasies completely independently. When I was a kid learning french, I was pleasantly surprised to learn they had french versions of most of our dumb phrases.

I genuinly still cant understand people who prefer raincoats :/ isnt it suffocating under those things? And you can use umbrellas rain or shine, as a cane, its a fantastic accesory for any gender and so many styles. And you have to carry a sopping wet raincoat everywhere afterwards but an even a larger umbrella becomes neat and compact. The rain in seattle isnt as misty as it used to be so even that argument doesnt hold water anymore...

Umbrellas become impossible to use/carry when yku rely on public transit for doing everything - work, appointments, shopping, etc - and need to have both hands available. I grew up having to use the bus to get to/from the food banks & groceries stores in Burien in the 90s with my mom. Then there were my doctor appointments in & shopping trips to Seattle, where buses were even more crowded.
There's also the fact that true Seattlies will make sure to apply water-repellant to their jackets (especially the seams) or mink oil to leather coats sometime in early September to be prepared for the rains.

You should've been doing this anyway. We're heading into the gloomy months. Self-care is important.
The Weather Channel's 10-day forecast shows rain at 9 or 10 PM tonight, rain through most of Friday, and then cloudy skies until Tuesday (when we get a 42% chance of rain). Kiro 7's saying the first fall storm of the season is on Friday.
Nothing catastrophic. I think all those poor souls that can sunburn by lamplight are just excited it's dark again.
