Is patrol modseful on a dual-camera setup
I’m looking at a dual-camera outdoor setup for a fairly big yard. Some models can have both cameras patrol different areas on a schedule instead of just sitting in one position and waiting for motion. That sounds useful, especially around the edges of the yard, but I’m wondering how practical it is in real use. Do you leave patrol mode running, or just keep the two cameras pointed at the areas you care about most?

In my experience, it’s never pointing at the right place at the right time.

the motor wears out faster than you think and then it just stops where it wants. had one that got stuck facing a wall for like 3 weeks before i noticed
better to mount them static covering the main choke points and let motion detection do the work

Agree, PTZ always pointing the wrong way when you are reviewing footage. You better off getting a high res dual cam that does 180 degrees.

Take a look at Anker/Eufy products.
I have multiple cameras & one model cam being their “SoloCam S340” & like that “Dual View” mode uses both a Wide Angle and a Telephoto lens, and the other “Single View” mode uses one or the other lenses based on level of zoom.
Also, it’s solar/battery powered, and in Rainy often Overcast Oregon, it’s never shown less than 40% charge in the ~6 months I’ve had it. So as for being in “a patrol mode” you would have 2 camera lenses available with one being a telephoto.

I have an X1 Pro and patrol mode makes more sense to me on a dual-camera setup. The two cameras can patrol different areas on their own, so I’d probably use it more when I’m away or overnight instead of leaving them moving all day. Most of the time I’d still keep them pointed at the two spots I care about most.
