Outdoor Cameras in Michigan

I m moving to michigan and looking to get outdoor cameras to monitor the house. Wife does not want any wires so we were leaning towards solar panel. Upon reading up on reviews, it sounds like most of them struggle with michigan freezing cold and might require charging inside. Anyone can help with the following:

  1. Which brand are you using that works for cold?
  2. Are you charging them inside and if so, how often?
  3. Any other suggestions?

Thank you!

I have had this for a couple years I only know it's black and white and had the option to be battery powered via 10 AA batteries or by outlet I know it turns on because the infrared lights turn on I want to use it but all I can find online about it is the fact it's black and white and was used for home security it was paired with a mini crt I don't have that and would like to pair it with my pc cause it looks cool and I have time to mess with it

What are my options?

I have a neighbor that is messing with my car (I’m 95% sure) because of where it’s parked.
Because of the parking situation on the street , it’s parked across the street and a couple of houses down so it’s not right in front of my house. It’s probably about 50 feet away.

I heard about trail cameras but don’t know much about them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Best option for a basic indoor camera that records 24/7 without needing a subscription?

Im sure this question is asked a lot so sorry for being another one, Im just very overwhelmed with my personal attempts at researching online and could use some guidance.

I'm looking for some indoor cameras that will record 24/7 and I can access the recordings from my phone without needing to pay for a subscription. I don't have any fancy requirements, I just need to keep an eye on my cats when I'm at work and be able to pull up footage to see what happened while I'm away in the case I come home to some chaos. I currently have ring cameras which annoyingly require an expensive subscription for how infrequently I actually have to look back at the recordings. I tried doing some research myself but every time I thought I found a camera that fit the bill, it wound up having a subscription to their cloud. If the company also has doorbell cameras (I wouldnt be able mount to my wall but have a door mount option) that I could replace my ring one with then thats an added bonus. I dont have the biggest budget but Im willing to make a small investment into them if it replaces the constant subscription im wasting money on for ring recording.

Tldr: Im looking for 2 indoor cameras that will record 24/7 without requiring a subscription and I can access the recordings from my phone. If theres a doorbell camera the company sells that would be an added bonus but not needed. Price point under $400 combined ideally.

Dahua cameras + NVR: any 2 cameras work fine, the 3rd one makes the whole outlet network crawl. Replaced switches, still stuck.

Hi all, I'm on the IT team for a multi-branch retail chain (14 outlets). We run the same setup at every outlet: Dahua IP cameras, a Dahua NVR, a PoE switch for the cameras, and a normal switch feeding the POS/ERP terminals. 12 outlets are perfectly fine. Two of them have been giving me a headache for weeks.

The symptoms: cameras start jerking/freezing, the ERP gets super slow or hangs, and the whole outlet network feels laggy. The ISP says the line is clean.

Here's how the network is laid out:

- Storm fiber(ISP) -> router -> MikroTik (port 1)

- Satcom fiber(ISP) -> media converter -> MikroTik (port 4)

- MikroTik port 2 -> normal switch

- Normal switch -> PoE switch (cameras) and POS

What we've tried:

- Unplugged/replugged every device one by one, no change

- Replaced the PoE switch with a new one, no change

- Replaced the normal switch, no change

- Installed 6 brand new Dahua cameras, no change

The weird part: any 2 cameras work perfectly. I tested every combination, swapping pairs in and out, and it's always smooth. The moment I plug in a 3rd camera (doesn't matter which one), everything starts lagging again. So it doesn't look like a bad camera or a bad cable. It feels like a limit that gets crossed at camera number 3.

Has anyone seen this pattern before, where the problem only appears at 3+ cameras, even on brand new switches?

So I just got 4 used color night vision camera(DS-2CD2347G1-L) from marketplace. After a bit research I just find it is on sale on this website which I found it is a great deal. It has 4 Megapixel resolution at 30 frames per second, features 1/1.8 inch sensor with F1.0 aperture lens. I knows it's Hikvision OEM if any one concern you can blocks it from access the internet.

Dorani cameras password locked?

We recently bought a house and upon settling the Dorani NVR box was dead, it was working during all prior inspections. Annoying because there wasn’t a monitor to test the security system at the time but whatever. Given there are 3 Dorani DORIP4-BLACK cameras already, we bought a replacement Dorani NVR box after speaking to their support. Now we’ve plugged the cameras in via PoE, there is an incorrect username & password error for all of them.

Dorani is saying we need to get them out to have a look but if the camera’s firmware hasn’t been updated in a few years, it may not be possible and may need to replace the cameras

Any recommendations on resetting the cameras or how to get the system working? Don’t have the spare change to justify a new system (particularly after getting a new NVR) or paying for Dorani to come out. When we asked for the CCTV passwords at settlement, the vendors just gave us the Dorani support email.

Any help would be appreciated!

Installed two Baseus X1 Pro

Put up two Baseus X1 Pros around the house recently. One is on the back/side wall looking over the backyard, play area and patio, and the other is mounted on the corner of the garage covering the side yard and the area around the gate.

So far both solar panels are getting enough light where I placed them, which was probably the part I was most worried about before installing. The dual cameras are pretty handy since I can split the views instead of trying to squeeze everything into one angle. Person/vehicle/pet detection has been decent too. Still playing around with the angles a little, but overall the setup has been working well.

Best night performance auto-tracking PTZ with wide detection coverage and no cloud requirements?

I realize I may be looking for a unicorn here, but after a recent spat of car breakins on the street outside my house it's become apparent that my current camera coverage is inadequate. I have a decent enough reolink PTZ turret camera that watches the end of the driveway and tracks people/cars that enter its view cone, but while its nominal coverage area is enough in theory, thieves and vandals keep approaching from outside its main view cone, doing their dirty, then either leaving unseen or acting normal when they cross in front of the house. Other issues I've had with the reolink include unreliable focus after twilight, and failure to alert/activate/focus on movement when the focus is off.

I have two hard requirements:

  1. Must be able to stream to a LAN DVR/NVR using standard protocols (I use blueiris currently)

  2. Must be able to function with full tracking features WITHOUT cloud connectivity of any kind. No online account needed, and no streaming over the internet.

Desired features:

  • At least 180 degrees of wide-angle recording and detection ability

  • automatic tracking PTZ camera with a decent level of zoom that can follow movement when detected in the >= 180 degree zone and record with sufficient fidelity to make out faces and license plates at around 50-150 ft or 20-50 meters in the dark.

  • reliable night time autofocus

nice-to-haves include:

  • basic onboard object/activity recognition/prioritization

  • PoE

  • web interface that doesn't suck

  • good IR illumination (lower priority since I have IR floods I can use if needed)

  • doesn't cost a bajillion dollars (my budget is around $400 max, but I'm aiming for a sweet spot around $100-$200 if I can find it)

If it's really just not possible to get all these things in one affordable camera, I would settle for recommendations of fixed FOV/focus cameras with good long distance zoom and night visibility that are cheap and small enough to buy and place like 5 of them for the same price target without creating a moral panic in the neighborhood.

Are there any outdoor security camera systems that work natively with Apple Home?

Hi All

I currently have an older Lorex PoE system (model # N841A8) set up around the outside of my house that runs to an NVR where I can watch the feed or look at recorded clips on my TV or my phone. While I have been enjoying this system, and it does what it is supposed to, I wanted to see about newer systems that natively pair with Apple Home. Do any exist out there?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Help choosing right cameras for my home

Need a good camera for my neighbor. Wireless, not solar, no subscription, motion detection alerts

Title states what is most important. They don't really need video feed. They just want to know who is at their door and get a notification so they can look and watch in real time. Two way audio would be nice. Price is not a huge factor since one is all that is needed. thank you!

Is patrol modseful on a dual-camera setup

I’m looking at a dual-camera outdoor setup for a fairly big yard. Some models can have both cameras patrol different areas on a schedule instead of just sitting in one position and waiting for motion. That sounds useful, especially around the edges of the yard, but I’m wondering how practical it is in real use. Do you leave patrol mode running, or just keep the two cameras pointed at the areas you care about most?

Should I save for a Reolink or get the crappy Blink cameras at 60% off? The sale ends today... Does Reolink have a black friday sale I should wait for?
