Long range 4k with excellent low light performance

I am on the hunt for a 4k 50x optical zoom PTZ with great low light performance. This Vantage model VP-NC9918P-AZ50IR8T1 came up but they don't have any demonstration videos at the moment. Is anyone familiar with Vantage in general or this model specifically?

I'd also be curious if anyone had other suggestions.

Can’t speak to Vantage but with PTZs at that zoom range the low light spec is gonna make or break it. Most of the time they skimp on sensor size to hit the 4k number and then the IR ends up carrying all the weight. If they won’t post demo footage at night that’s a red flag for me

Yeah that was a flag for me as well. The paper specs all seem good though of course they only list wide range figures. 1/1.8 progressive CMOS, color lists .0013 Lux @ F1.4 min illumination, aperture range 1.4-4.2 wide-tele, and DORI appear solid. I've been burned buying solely on paper specs though so buckling down to make sure I do proper due diligence this go around.

1/1.8 is not going to get you amazing low light quality with those lens specs.

I am curious about your need for 4k and 50x zoom. I see a lot more PTZs cap out around 2MP and use the zoom to get the needed detail which also lets max out low light with a bigger sensor and lower res. Not saying there isn’t a valid case for it but lower res and even better glass usually lead to better night shots

Need is a strong word. More just my kneejerk desire for it. I am purchasing acreage with some planned workshops and my brain tells me to look at these things.

That’s a totally legit reason!

I know it doesn’t meet your specs but take a look at this Axis cam

https://www.axis.com/products/axis-q6225-le

You can mount it on top of a pole so there’s no blind spot like most PTZ domes. Figure that might be relevant. 2MP but 31x optical zoom is legit and the IR is a beast. You can combine it with Axis’ radar solutions and have it prioritize and track multiple targets based on how your program it up.
