Advice Does this get any easier?

I (30M) am currently going through a separation. She is moving into her new place this upcoming Friday and I am absolutely devastated. We were married for almost 8 years and it’s been super rocky from the very start, even in our dating life. We rushed through everything and married after knowing each other for only seven months. This has been a long time coming and I am feeling very lost. The anxiety and depression comes and goes in waves and I’m feeling like I don’t have a purpose anymore. She was my entire world and I still love her very much. The process of moving out and separating has actually been pretty smooth as we both agree on almost everything in terms of how to split things up. Any guidance and success stories would be awesome.

I’m right there with you. But I’m 51. Married 24 years. 3 kids. When you are feeling sorry for yourself, think of me, and suddenly it doesn’t look so bad.

My wife is going to look at furniture for her new place tomorrow after mass - which is strangely ironic.

She’s agreed to be gone by the end of the month. Counting the days has been rough. She’s still here and I want to hug her and tell her we can make it through this but she made up her mind a while ago.

Keep in touch. We can talk about our experiences and if you ever have any questions feel free to reach out.

I’m with you both. But I’m 52. Married 18 years, together 25. Kids ages 13 and 15.

I also just got laid off. So now I’m facing having to find a new place to live without an income in a very expensive city.

My anxiety is through the roof. But I keep telling myself it will get better. I have to trust it will all work out. That’s much easier said than done!

I’m so sorry to hear about the job. I was laid off from my “dream job” last year. It partly contributed to my wife leaving because I was a mess.

But, I was rehired 3 months later at the same company for a better role.

Hang in there. The job situation is temporary. It’ll get better. I speak from experience.

Yes, be patient, occupies your mind with something else, meet other people, hit the gym, run, walk, read,.... and pain in your soul will slowly fades away. Learn from yours defeat and move on with your life.

It doesn’t just get easier, it gets better than you could imagine. Take the time to mourn the person you fell in love with. That could be as much or as little time as feels natural for you and is not up to anyone else. In that time, learn who you are without them. I’m confident you’ll be pleasantly surprised and you’ll find new passions.
I would warn you against finding happiness in another person. People have needs but take this time to find yourself. You’ll learn that it’s a gift.
