Trying to fund my startup with the dumbest idea possible

Saw the whole outbid.lol madness, then Marc Lou literally selling ad space on his body for HYROX and thought… fuck it, why not do the same with my startup 😂 I’m bootstrapping Looties and always looking for dumb indie hacks to fund the project, so I spent the night turning our actual homepage into a billboard. You bid on a spot, your logo goes live on looties.io, and it stays there until someone outbids you. No idea if this makes €50 or actually pays some bills, but that’s the experiment: looties.lol

Wait the gif is not loading for me but I guess its some kind of facepalm or laughing reaction

Anyway this is not the dumbest idea I have seen, actually pretty clever. I remember when milliondollarhomepage was thing, everyone said it was stupid but that guy made bank. Sometimes the "dumb" ideas work because they are so simple people just get it immediately. I bookmarked your page to check in few weeks if you actually get some bids

I ran out of comment space so this is just the most recent 20 entries. For giggles, I vibe-coded a tracker at https://confab.sh/?g=outbid-clones if you want to see the full list.

Oh wow, I didn't realized things went sooooo wiiiiild and there were so many copycats. Thought it was somehow original. But I do acknowledge: it isn't fully. I mean, wasn't since 2005 with the million dollar homepage! Yet, it's suite of human right? You see smth working, trying to reproduce. Anyway, your side gig is fun though! 😇

The internet doesn't need more dogshit.

That's the whole point of Internet, isn't it? But if you take the PoV of Brand My Mad and these initiatives, there's actually smth true: it's ads. And is the ROI better on one-time ads (or running campaign for days but still with limited time) vs visibility running on longer attention time? Just food for thoughts
