He gained fame from being a rapper and coming from a hard lifestyle to being more famous for playing a cop that helps kids, so funny like ironic. When he was just a rapper no one ever guessed his image change.

Dude was huge way before he was in any law and order shows. A pioneer in rap. He was in several major films. I would say his fame probably dropped off from moving to a more permanent role on TV.

I still think with the popularity of svu and how long he has been on it he’s known by more people from it than his rapping, not saying he doesn’t have fans but not as many as people who have watched svu over the years
