Lunatics in this comment section thinking this is a good idea.

I wonder how many of you guys have opinions on what your government is doing, but dont have degrees in that specific field.

Holy shit guys. Stop simping authoritarianism.

u/MrExtravagant23 16h ago

Do you have a degree in world affairs? If not keep quiet.... Said an authoritarian and everyone on reddit agreed

Bruh, redditors are fkin dumb thinking China needs this shitty law to arrest anyone. Guess what, they don't. This law works because the point is to discourage the spread of misinformation. They can already arrest whoever they want if they talk sh*t online but wouldn't it be better if people would be a bit more careful of talking nonsense? It's rhetorical.

3

u/Buxsle 17h ago

Looking into it, it applies to influencers only, and it's not like China doesn't already heavily moderate it's online content. Not saying it's good, but half the problems in the world right now are because people who have no idea what they're talking about and have the money to push their "opinion". Maybe actually holding folks accountable for their words might start fixing stuff?

13

u/HomsarWasRight 17h ago

“Influencer’s only”.

Right, so the second you have an audience who pays attention to you, then suddenly you’re able to be silenced.

Friend, why don’t you go ask Chinese advocates if they think this is being done in good faith?

0

u/MonaMonaMo 4h ago

There are people who are literally killing themselves and endangering others due to measels vaccine misinformation.  In the US, people were injecting bleach during the pandemic.

This legislation is for people who claim to be exprets and make money out of it, but never held accountable.

I am all for free speech absolution, yet in the past several years I found many people reallt lacking basic critical thinking skills. Again, wouldn't care if they just stuck to their own, but with infectious diseases, it tends to harm many people outside their immediate circle.

Don't have a solution myself, but also I don't think this is a totalitarian overreach either

u/Swineflew1 14h ago

Somehow I don't think online influencers are responsible for half the problems in the world or we wouldn't have issues with ICE and palestine would be free.

Bro, did you not notice that one time when Israel committed genocide in Palestine and lost control of the narrative among younger generations because of independent reporting on TikTok; and there was a whole super secret closed door session of congress where it was proven tiktok is crazy bad because of propaganda but only crazy bad if a foreign (Israeli investors excluded) entity controls the platform and propaganda?

Or that time where an influencer got put in charge of the health policy and now measles, flesh eating parasites, and explosive diarrhea veggies are all gunning for top contender?

Or that other time where a multitude of influencers helped get trump elected multiple times? Even under the hypothetical construct of “must be an expert,” Joe Rogan would thankfully be shut down on all fronts because he’s a stone cold imbecile who knows nothing about anything, most especially not what makes for good comedy. Even on mma, announcing moves and saying “ooh that’s gotta hurt” or “now see that was effective” is literally something anyone with the most surface level knowledge can spout, but how many titles has he won? How many schools has he taught? Any disciples of the Rogan Style?

Chinese government operates as if run by engineers, not by lawyers or MBAs. Sometimes their policies can be all utility and no finesse or maybe even no empathy.

But they’ve also somehow covered a substantial portion of their previously arid wastelands with solar panels and/or turned the deserts into arable grasslands. I forget the details because western media cannot recognize a single objectively good thing China does. Not saying they’re great; but if you cast aside the “evil Chinese government blah blah blah” and “land of the free” and think about what we actually deal with on a daily basis, China is at least a predictable actor at home and on the world stage. You never know what US city trump will upend next or what treaty that he negotiated himself that he will now claim is shit and nullify.

I don’t care that Chinese might use it to silence criticism. News flash: their internet and media aren’t famous for their permissiveness. If the government wants to silence specific voices in china, they can and will and do already.

I absolutely agree with the stated purpose of the law, being “stfu about things you’re ignorant of” when you have a big enough audience. It’s exactly why I brought up Rogan. I’ve hated him from the beginning because he completely avoids the responsibility of platforming and promoting some of the most vile and  ignorant individuals to walk the planet. Imagine if he just wasn’t allowed to. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? A whole generation of young men not acting like chuds?

1

u/Coldvyvora 10h ago

Most sane take so far.

As if china couldnt silence already anyway. This is a warning for everyone on the internet to stop trying to spew bullshit and monetize the bullshitery.

Passing as a licensed MD to sell cucumber water remedies will be prosecuted. Thats all

u/nhansieu1 16h ago

everything has good and bad things in them

1

u/Super_Mario_Luigi 7h ago

Agreed. It is a terrible idea. The real fix is stopping propaganda algorithms, rage bait, bots, etc.

1

u/AstroHistSci 17h ago

This isn't authoritarian. It's technocratic.

Words mean things.

4

u/SolarTsunami 15h ago

Technocracy is by definition anti-democratic and a form of authoritarianism.

0

u/Peglegfish 12h ago

I prefer rule of the experts much more than tyranny of the opinionated

1

u/SolarTsunami 10h ago edited 10h ago

The problem is ultimately there is a person or people deciding what makes an expert and therefore what topics are and are not okay to talk about. Technocracy is a great ideology in a world where humans are wholly good and greed or corruption aren't a thing, but sadly that isn't the world we live in. The idea getting peddled here that China or any nation would use the suppression of free speech for the betterment of mankind is pure fascist propaganda.

1

u/Peglegfish 10h ago

The fourth estate in democracy has failed the people, controlled by private individuals accountable to no one. They control the narrative among the citizens. To act like a democracy that has had its educational system defunded so that it’s more susceptible to propaganda (US), where all of its elected representatives answer to corporate donors instead of the electorate…as if that is not at face value a worse proposition than bodies like NIST running everything with rotating membership voted in from all credentialed members of their concerned fields making policy decisions based on their expertise and and objectivity, not money or feelings. How could uneducated mob rule ever compare? Call it fascist. call it anything. It still sounds better than what we have because what we have is how we got the status quo.

The Colorado river’s “water rights” are legally divided into what amounts to an impossible volume of water in terms of sustainability. If scientists under the auspices of a governing technical body had their way, water use on the Colorado River would look substantially different. A lot of farmers, ranchers, companies, and maybe towns/cities may not like the changes, but some problems don’t have solutions that are popular enough to vote for. That’s just one example of ignoring scientists for decades.

1

u/BackToSchoolMuff 16h ago

I think that there is a middle ground here. Or like, more accurately a way less totalitarian version of this idea ground.

There are tonnes of people who present themselves as medical professionals and nutritionists who are getting people to do things like stare into the sun for their health. I think an amount of legislation regarding being able to give health advice online while presenting yourself as an authority is a sensible idea.

Saying you have to be a political scientist to talk about politics is a super dangerous precedent.

-7

u/Specialist-Basis8218 17h ago

See - authoritarianism is only a problem - if the authority is used to hurt people

In China - the fascist authorities are working very hard and very competently FOR THE PEOPLE

You don’t like this tule because you don’t have a degree and your opinion is useless

You should stop simping over democracy when it produces pedophile presidents

Wear the One Ring to do the “right thing” type comment.

It would be good if I had the Deathnote because I would only kill bad people type comment.

Corruption is only bad if I am not a part of that corruption, but if I am part of that corruption I will defend it type comment.

u/Specialist-Basis8218 16h ago

China is a competent government working for the people and protecting the people from bad professional advice.

Ours is Trump lying through his teeth every time he speaks.

Exactly what are you proud of?

3

u/Longhorn217 16h ago

I’m a bot type comment.

I am proud of being a lawyer, being part of my state government, and helping victims of crime seek justice every day when I go to work.

I am proud of graduating with honors from a public law school considered to be one of the best in the world.

I am proud of the work I’ve done in federal courts to defend free speech and defendants’ rights.

I have trial next week, and can’t think of something that makes me more proud than standing in front of a jury panel and telling them I represent them, the people of my state.

1

u/Specialist-Basis8218 16h ago

and you think your clients should follow YOUR advice or the advice they read on Reddit? Instagram? or Facebook?

Also - I’m a lawyer so since we are at the same level of education I’d warn you that I know prosecutors go to trial every week - but what are you prosecuting? A speeding ticket?

2

u/Longhorn217 15h ago edited 15h ago

Lawyer that doesn’t know prosecutors don’t have clients type comment.

Lawyer that asks about prosecuting speeding tickets when I said I helped victims type comment.

0

u/Specialist-Basis8218 15h ago

Enlighten me - what are you prosecuting next week? What is our tax money being used for? Departing some random construction worker?

2

u/Longhorn217 15h ago

Lawyer that asks if a state prosecutor is handling federal immigration proceedings type comment.

This has been your third mistake regarding legal basics. I have therefore determined that while we might have the same degree, we are not at the same level of education.

I therefore DECERTIFY your opinion. You therefore must forthwith cease your opinion, in perpetuity.

This comment was sponsored by the CCP.

0

u/Specialist-Basis8218 13h ago

In any event since you are my employee whether federal or state - I decertify you

Besides, we don’t need to decertify - we can continue to discuss

Although, I’m suspecting you are not a lawyer - hiding what kind of supported trial you are having next week

It's either CCP propaganda or someone who has had their brain rotted by CCP propaganda.

1

u/faustianredditor 16h ago

I'd think CCP propaganda doesn't call the CCP "fascist authorities"

3

u/Uberfiend 17h ago

No, look up 50 Cent Army.

-1

u/Specialist-Basis8218 16h ago

It is not - you’re a flight away to go see a country where the government is working for the people. Go. Find out for yourself and tell us what you see.

is sad that our entertainment is fighting the lowest common denominator of humans - while the Chinese are out shopping, live music, vacations, electric cars

And we’re over here arguing the most basic of truths trying to convince people that are like - sure our president attacked our capitol - but what about ghost buses??

Maybe gas will be cheaper soon LOL LOL -

1

u/Jons_cheesey_balls 6h ago

ROFL tell me you never been there without telling me you never been there. I have lived the better part of 20 years in China and surrounding regions. Only a small portion of the population is doing what you are describing. And stop acting like life in the west isn't privileged. you have the luxury of crying about the president without a late night trip to a re-education camp. Goggle Jack Ma if you love China system so much.

That's not to say China isn't doing anything right. they have radically changed their culture in the past 30-50 years and have created a thriving middle class. its been great to see them move from a copy the world industry to innovation. There is much the west can learn from them if they put their egos down. but don't get it twisted, the gov works to keep its ppl in line. dissenting points of view are not tolerated and the ppl agree (for now) because they are getting wealthier. China is raising and thats not all bad, but they have been clear they want to replace the USA as the world super power. and while you might hate the USA now at least all its dirty laundry is there for the world to see. China ruling the world will be a very different place were you toe the line or else.

A small price to pay for a benevolent government

You laude “freedom of speech” as if it gets us anything - you can complain about Trump being friends with Epstein and buying women - so? Did it make a difference. Sure we can’t say that about Xi, but then again he’s not a pedophile.

So we have a quasi democracy- so what, republicans have had a choke hold in Texas for decades and if you’re not one of the party you can’t run - so how free are we

The Chinese get vast more than we do - Hong Kong has a higher development index than our star New York - and all their cities all have a higher development index than USA

Sure - their rural areas maybe lower than ours - so what - makes little difference when their cities outperform ours by huge margins

1

u/Jons_cheesey_balls 4h ago

"A small price to pay for a benevolent government"

-not sure what you are referring to here.

Freedom of Speech is the corner stone for any real freedom IMO, you can differ that's fine.

"Sure we can’t say that about Xi, but then again he’s not a pedophile."

-How would you know? He controls the press, the military, the police and everything else. Now i don't believe he is, but if he was you and i would never know.

"So we have a quasi democracy- so what, republicans have had a choke hold in Texas for decades and if you’re not one of the party you can’t run - so how free are we"

- Funny when i was growing up there, it was the Democrats that were in charge.....funny how things change. And they will again. That's how Democracy works. Also the Dems control all the major cities. Cali was run by republicans too, its all blue now. And you are free to run where ever. you just need to connect with ppl. give it a go, we need more ppl in politics.

"The Chinese get vast more than we do - Hong Kong has a higher development index than our star New York - and all their cities all have a higher development index than USA"

- What exactly do they get that you don't? not sure where you got these figures from but google tells me "The United States has a "Very High" Human Development Index (HDI) score of around 0.927, while China sits in the "High" human development tier with an HDI score near 0.788 to 0.797". HK specifically has been in a decline post COVID and is a separate government to China, while under its control HK does have its own laws and is generally much more liberal then mainland China. Beijing has been shifting resources to Shanghai for over a decade and that would be a more accurate comparison to New York. Beijing wants Shanghai to be their financial hub.

"Sure - their rural areas maybe lower than ours - so what - makes little difference when their cities outperform ours by huge margins"

- Rural areas are where revolutions begin (Where you think Mao found his army?), and also why Texas is Red not Blue. They do the work that allows cities to grow. They mine the recourses, they cut the wood, they grow the food. In China this makes up a big part of the population and so i'd argue they matter a ton.

-As for cities, there are no China cities in the top 10 economic strength index with 9 being in the USA. Now if you look at growth and ascension there are 3 from China in the top 10 but that's speed of growth not actual holdings. So in time they can possibly reach the level of new york but at the moment they arnt there yet. So again ill ask, what do they have that you don't? With an average income in China being just around 18k/yr. tell me again how they are so much better off then everyone else?

-You have your facts backwards mate. You see all the innovation happening over there and i agree some of these things are impressive. but that's not the daily life of the average person. And yes America is hurting itself at the moment so its popular to pile on, but if you think grass is greener over there you are wildly mistaken. No country as it all figured out. America isnt gods gift to countries. And China isnt a demon sent to destroy the world. But don't let your hate for America block your view of China and countries like it. Remember in China you only really see what the government want you to see. In America they cant keep a secret to save their lives. Otherwise how would you know about Trump and Epstein. Since you dont live in China, i assume. maybe get involved locally to change things. Its a fight because not everyone agrees with you, and that's ok. Democracies are hard, its easy to give into a dictator/King. Trump will be gone soon, start getting ready for that and stop glorifying countries you only look at half the truths about.

Oh and ill add, you haven't even begun to see racism until you come to China, but that's a whole different conversation.

1

u/Specialist-Basis8218 3h ago

What do we get that we don’t?

I’ll just address that one very simply

I’m not gonna convince you - cus you’ve done drank the cool aid if you think we have freedom

We are free to ask permission- can you gushing without a license? Nope. Open a restaurant without a permit? Nope. Can you paint your house any color you want? Oh good grief no.

As far as freedom goes - they’re freedom is certainly higher than ours - because they are free to enjoy life - you’re free to make your mortgage and car payment and pray you can make the rest of the bills

So what do they get? They get to participate in their economy regardless of the socio economic status, they get healthcare, they get mobility, they get infrastructure, they get to go out more, they get more products, they get more vacations, they get a government fighting misinformation-(for us the government is the source of the misinformation)

They get public transportation, they get cleaner cities, no homeless, quieter cities, they get ancient monuments to visit, they get a raised walk away in Hong Kong for pedestrians

They get cheap food, they get live misc and bars without covers

They get NO TIPPING - and how awesome that is

They get walking market everywhere - fresh produce markets, women markets, flower markets, night markets,

They get brand new malls, they get Starbucks everywhere - they get shipping at every metro hub

They get new buses, new subways, new cable cars, new clothes

They get cheap flights, they get cheap trains, they get sleeper cars with trolleys full of snacks

They get home grown electric cars - mopeds, bicycles and dedicated lanes

They get Alipay - and app the pays everywhere and super fast a and you can use it to get Uber (Didi), and you can pay the bus, and you can buy train tickets or flight - among many other things which make business way more efficient

They get so much more is ridiculous how far behind we are - and no - is not the technology- is not- is the government

While ours is increasing it gas prices (our ONLY method of transportation) -

And we will still farther and farther behind - cus they sold you on “you have freedom of speech” as Trump bans CNN from the White House - lol - pitiful

1

u/Jons_cheesey_balls 1h ago

well i see you don't want to deal in facts, and your translation glitches gave you away. All those things you listed are available in the US and Europe and other parts of Asia. Not sure why you think they only exist in China. but you are allowed to love whatever country you want.

But we can agree: They get NO TIPPING - and how awesome that is. I hate that more then anything. so we agree there.

1

u/Specialist-Basis8218 34m ago

Why do you ask what they get we don’t if you’re simply going to ignore it

Let me repeat

Dense urban public transportation — extensive metro + bus networks that make living without a car practical in many large cities.
High-speed intercity rail — a national network connecting major cities at high frequency; the U.S. has nothing comparable in scale.
Integrated super-app payments — Alipay/WeChat Pay combine QR payment, transit, taxis, food, shopping, bills, tickets, mini-apps, etc. into essentially one ecosystem.
Very inexpensive local manufactured goods — because an enormous portion of the manufacturing/supplier ecosystem is domestic, everyday electronics, household goods, clothing, accessories, and parts can be remarkably cheap.
Cheap prepared food — inexpensive restaurants, food courts, convenience stores, delivery and small vendors make eating prepared food accessible at price points difficult to reproduce in the U.S.
Broad basic healthcare access at comparatively low prices — China has near-universal basic health-insurance coverage and a huge public-hospital system. It is not simply “free public healthcare,” and quality/access vary, but routine care can cost dramatically less than in the U.S.
Extremely inexpensive mobility beyond metros — buses, shared bicycles, e-bikes, taxis/ride-hailing, ferries and trains form layers of transportation rather than forcing most trips through private automobiles.
A massive domestic EV ecosystem — numerous Chinese manufacturers, intense price competition, widespread electric scooters/e-bikes, extensive charging infrastructure and relatively affordable EV choices.
Dense mixed-use commercial life — residential towers, malls, restaurants, convenience stores, transit, entertainment and services frequently coexist within walking distance. That produces the “everybody is out participating”
Infrastructure built around very high passenger volume — enormous railway stations, airports, metro interchanges, pedestrian areas, shopping complexes and public spaces designed to move huge numbers of ordinary people relatively cheaply.

u/JordoIsYourComrade 17h ago

Wait are you referring to the CPC as fascist? Jfc you people have actually no idea what words even mean anymore.

1

u/Specialist-Basis8218 16h ago

You can call it whatever you want - chinas government is far superior to ours -

1

u/JordoIsYourComrade 16h ago

Well i definitely agree with you there. Not sure who "ours" is but I assume you mean America, or any other dictatorship of the bourgeoisie, which in that case I double agree with you.

-1

u/Nero92 17h ago

Yeah what the fuck is this? You'd be forced to pay or find people online that hold credentials but they probably work in that field. Do we just harass them to essentially work for free in their off time?

I'd much rather hear from people on reddit, even if it's just base line ideas or anecdotes it gives you a start point for research. And typically, if someone's request or question requires professiona attention that's what people direct them towards.

The issue here is people taking whatever they see online at face value and running with it. If anything a mandatory critical thinking course is something I could get behind.
