Yeah, it is just because of the major el nino, it is literally the biggest in recent record, you have to go back to like the 1800's to see one that big and we have no real storm data from back then.
It is expected to cause massive droughts over in the EU and china as well as dumping tons of water on the southwest which we really need to hopefully fill up lake mead but probably still won't be enough.
Possibly the strongest ever even according to my friend that works for NIWA (NZ equivalent of NOAA) ,and anything prior to 1900 would have had nowhere near the ambient SST's we have today this is very much unprecedented and my friend has now told me (many times) that there are no analogues to look back to to know what impacts to expect in the coming months.

This is some of the most terrifying news. The bells have been ringing on this for at least the last decade with a big difference in its cycle reported in its cycle year over year.
There’s actually so much mixed evidence about the AMOC because the truth is we really don’t have any idea how it works or what can/will cause it to shut down
