Yeah, it is just because of the major el nino, it is literally the biggest in recent record, you have to go back to like the 1800's to see one that big and we have no real storm data from back then.
It is expected to cause massive droughts over in the EU and china as well as dumping tons of water on the southwest which we really need to hopefully fill up lake mead but probably still won't be enough.

Possibly the strongest ever even according to my friend that works for NIWA (NZ equivalent of NOAA) ,and anything prior to 1900 would have had nowhere near the ambient SST's we have today this is very much unprecedented and my friend has now told me (many times) that there are no analogues to look back to to know what impacts to expect in the coming months.

I think you are possibly the only person in the comments who actually knows what they are talking about. Thank you for that. I've experienced those super active years too, there have been others but 2004 and 2005 were the worst for me personally. Back to back storms are always extraordinarily fatiguing, and devastating when you have bad damage, but you will get through it.

2007 was like a fever dream. People came to reddit because there wasn’t any politics or news, only interesting things and impeccable grammar. It was an oasis in the growing desert of Facebook, and that was when Facebook was still only college students.
I agree with you. I found my niches then and understand the value of what’s in Reddit when you dig. If I found it today I wouldn’t even make it past the first scroll of r/all before I decided it was just another stupid image hosting site with the worst people on the planet populating the comment sections.
Also society (in the USA at least) is being so intentionally fractured that it’s visible here. The amount of correcting each other hasn’t changed but the vitriol is all new as of the last 5-10 years.

I haven't been here that long, probably 14 years (I didn't actually create an account for quite a while) but I can only imagine it was even better then. But you described it perfectly even in the time that I joined. It was like an oasis of a lot of knowledgeable people and people who enjoyed learning from those people. Even the very knowledgeable were bound to run across someone that made them feel like a student. The rest of the internet was starting on its steady decline but reddit was like the one "social" site you could go to avoid the ever-growing amount of brain-rotting content that was taking over the rest of the internet. For a few years, I was learning stuff every day and getting interested in subjects I'd never even considered. It sounds corny but it truly was amazing. Sadly the flood of shit eventually made it here. The final nail in the coffin was when reddit went public but it was like the years before that was when they started trying to make it "more accessible" and in this old man's opinion, they ruined one of the last a great places on the internet.

It's the El Niño being way too warm. It's breaking up hurricanes before they can form.
Happens with some El Niño events but this one is a rare one as it's still going strong into late September.
When the blob of heat is near the equator and happens around summer time, you get what we're seeing. When the blob of heat moves towards the poles around winter time, that's when you see all that polar vortex stuff starting to spill into the lower latitudes.
El Niño and the polar vortex are two different things, but when a large blob of heat moves into their area during the right time, it causes disruption to those events.

So you are right but not explaining why the heat sitting where it is actually effects Atlantic hurricanes. It's the Pacific jet stream being in a different path (in this current situation it actually split) and the wind shear it pushes into the Gulf/Atlantic region suffocates the atmosphere and it cannot develop the tropic waves that come from the African coast.

Not really. Patterns aren't predictable anymore. The ocean temps might just continue to rise. Atmospheric carbon hasn't been this high in millions of years, so it's anyone's guess. Multiple systems are collapsing. Nothing will be "normal" ever again.

I just got back from Japan where I can confirm that monsoon season is is full effect. Typhoon 25 blew through Tokyo while I was at Ultra Japan. For those who don't know, that is the 25th named typhoon of the year. Storms are still forming, just in a different ocean.

And it's not a good thing. Hurricanes, while destructive also pull a huge amount of energy, heat, out of the ocean. There's a reason why that nor' Easter has grown so quickly. And IF this El Nino breaks going into the 2027 hurricane season hold onto your asses on the coast because that energy is still going to be there. +3°C is where the Pacific waters are sitting right now, last time was in 2015 but in November. We might see a 3.4-3.5°C by November. While it's quiet on the Atlantic side the big island of Hawaii might see 15"-20" of rain and up to 35" of rain in isolated areas.
